Superflight Night OP Challenge: Hell in a Cell Update!

Published

on

These matches turned out to be the most entertaining thing I have seen on anything to do with WWE matches of late. And yes, I am referring to real life television programming. But come on, let’s face it WWE creative has been on decline for some time now hence why I was driven to pilot this formatted hypothetical fantasy booking matches. And I am sure by now, some of you may have realized that the manner in which I am going about scoring the win percentage is similar to television shows that did it with ancient soldiers and rulers. Without further wait, let us get into the details thus far.
Boy that ring looks pretty inside that hell! #YES!Wrestling

This go round The Beast, The Phenomenal One, The Legend Killer, The Big Dog, The Kingslayer, and The Master of Thuganomics were all locked inside the most imposing structure in sports entertainment history, Hell in a Cell for 25 consecutive, completely A.I. controlled matches as I observed for posterity. I would like to mention that in this quarter of the simulation I did have one match in which a glitch occurred and teleported A.J. outside the structure and straight to the top. I want to make it clear that this match was thus restarted and not included in the tally.

Speaking of The Phenomenal One, as the title states, he has blown out the competition this leg of the gauntlet. Styles fired out of the starting gate like a cannonball at the walls of Carthage with an amazing four consecutive victories. He totalled out the match card with ten wins. Most shockingly and most likely the reasoning behind his tantalizing performance, was his ability to transition into the Calf Crusher and take advantage of the others inability to resist his technical prowess among the participants.

Brock Lesnar is remaining on track for an average of six and half wins per leg sustaining an average win percentage of 26% per quarter. The Beast remains a severe threat to all participants due to his dominance physically and in toughness. Not only is he able to dish out massive amounts of damage in a short span of game time, he is also able to withstand just about any amount of damage, within certain a respect. Majority of the time in these matches when Lesnar did falter he was either being attacked by multiple opponents or was incapacitated using weapons or the environment. Again, it was these aspects that should shine a nice light on the 2k development team as it reflects the threat that The Beast Incarnate represents when partnered with such an impressive obstacle as the cell.

Those favoring the Roman Empire as a darkhorse may actually see some light from that candle in the darkness with Battle Royal matches on the horizon. This go round The Big Dog was able to stay on track with his average win percentage by claiming five victories up one from the previous quarter and totalling his score out to nine matches. If Reigns can muster a solid showing in the next stage using his prowess in the Royal Rumble feel of the smaller Battle Royal, the empire may see some upside going into the final quarter.

All though he is in 5th place overall, Orton still manages to impress with his vintage DDT!

Both Rollins and Orton fared poorly in this outing. Orton again is struggling with maintaining a winning attitude as well as focus losing site of easy to grab victories such as leaving a “wounded duck” of an opponent laying center ring to go assault Cena ringside. Rollins on the other hand has really been clung to the idea of beefing with the Big Dog. This does play into the past notion that The Shield was broken and does impose a feeling of despair yet, this is to be expected as typically all of the titles have things that cannot be changed before the production and release dates. Rollins is only two points behind Reigns in the grand scheme of things so a come back however unlikely is a possibility. As for Orton, well I think he is even considered aging in the industry as far as the programming is concerned as he is being left in the dust with only four points total.

The winless wonder, John Cena, claims his first and only pinfall victory. It was actually the most brutal of all of the bouts though, which in all do respects does play into the notion that when any other superstar would fail Cena will rise to the top. In this particular match, all but Cena himself was busted open, every possible weapon option, OMG! Moment, and temporary partnership took place. There were moments in this particular match that could have swung the victory into anyone’s coin purse but, it was on the sole circumstance that Orton, Lesnar and Reigns were in recovery status and Rollins was in the middle of having his foot torn off via The Calf Crusher. Cena in expert, ring veteran status slid into the ring behind Styles, broke up the submission and as Rollins was rolling away locked in his own signature submission, The STFU, and made A.J. say uncle; Once.

It is a bit choppy, sorry. But, the pilgrims crossed the Pacific on the Mayflower. Just saying!

Strangely, this match type did not go overboard with the match i.e. busting a cell and getting outside the cage, to the point that it never happened. Weapons were used inside the cell a total of six out of the twenty five bouts which again, strange. I understand the lack of escape as it happens more in recent years than in the past while, there have only been a very few plummets from the top. The lack of foreign object use was a major lack in programming. I don’t care who is in the match when it comes to Hell in a Cell, TLC, Extreme Rules, or a Street Fight; every superstar needs to go to the darkside to some degree to push not only the boundaries of themselves but, the boundaries of the match itself. Just think of this year’s past Hell in a Cell. Seeing the Uso’s trapped with kendo sticks and New Day members handcuffed to the ring itself. These are the things that we as fans find “groundbreaking.”

A beautiful yet, devastating RKO! Photo courtesy of smoothskinTV.

As always there will be a link to the actual scorecard and matchtracker below. I would also like to encourage any readers to visit my Facebook group page for YES! Wrestling Superflight Night @ https://www.facebook.com/groups/YESwrestlingSuperFlight/as well as my personal twitter feed @smoothskinTV. I would also like to note that the video for this segment of the series is my best attempt at making a complete match from the clips instead of presenting a highlight reel. Hopefully, I get better with practice and you ladies and gents enjoy!

For a little article night cap I would like to quote Jesse “The Body” Ventura. “In wrestling, my mustache made me look more like a villain. A good mustache can give you the look of the devil.”
