All In News: Flip Gordon Receiving Opportunity To Get Booked At All In

Published

on

Since the announcement of the big All In event earlier this year, it’s no secret that Ring Of Honor star Flip Gordon has been lobbying to get booked for the September 1st show in Chicago, Illinois at the Sears Centre. Whether it be on social media, through Brandi Rhodes or any other various show (including yesterday’s All In press conference which you can check out here), Flip has continued to push Cody Rhodes to get him on the show. While Cody has not been receptive to Flip’s attempts, today ‘The American Nightmare’ announced that he will be giving Gordon one more chance to earn his way there:

June 8th. Rahway, NJ. Winners are ALL IN! TIX/INFO: wrestleproonline.com

EA’s Take: I’ve always felt that it was just a matter of time before Flip was announced. A lot of what he, Brandi and Cody have been doing via social media to further the angle has been nothing short of excellent. I see loads of potential in Flip and Cody’s a smart guy (much smarter than me likely), so I’d be willing to bet he sees it too. This whole thing, in my opinion, has just been a way to elevate Flip and it has worked brilliantly, as more people at least know who he is than ever before. Now, do I think he wins this match? I’m not sure. I could see them stretching it out further and quite frankly, I don’t see why they wouldn’t. Flip was never a name that would significantly help ticket sales and now that the show is sold out, you may as well keep it going with him for another month or two before he finally gets “booked”.

NJPW Rumors: Former WWE Superstar Reportedly Reaches Out To New Japan

Published

on

With the reach of New Japan Pro Wrestling growing more into the western part of the world, the landscape of the company has been under a change with the success of stars such as Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, among others. Additionally, the promotion has recently hired its first-ever non-Japanese President, another point to prove these changes (you can check that story out here).

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, former WWE Superstar John Morrison (also known as Johnny Mundo on Lucha Underground and Johnny Impact in Impact Wrestling) has reached out to the company in an effort to work for the promotion. This wouldn’t be the first time Morrison has attempted to come in, as it’s being said there was interest in years past, however Morrison working for AAA in Mexico reportedly stopped that. New Japan has had a working relationship with CMLL, a rival promotion to AAA, but there have been indications that NJPW’s stance on that has changed. Rey Mysterio also works for AAA, but that did not prevent New Japan from bringing him in.

EA’s Take: Quite frankly, I don’t see why Morrison wouldn’t have interest in working for NJPW or why it couldn’t happen now. He’s 38-years old, which isn’t old by wrestling standards and is still super athletic. His biggest issue in WWE was he never could really talk well, but he can certainly work his ass off. Speaking isn’t as big a part of the game in Japan (in my opinion), so he really could fit in well there. Whether it would be a one-off or a continuous thing, I guess the jury’s still out on that if it happens.

WWE News: Shawn Michaels To Appear At WWE UK Championship Tournament

Published

WWE WrestleMania Shawn Michaels

Coming off the heels of WWE’s announcement that NXT Superstars EC3, Aleister Black, Ricochet and The Velveteen Dream will be competing at the United Kingdom Championship Tournament in London on June 18th, a WWE Hall Of Famer has now been revealed to appear.

Today, WWE has announced that ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels will also be in town for the two-day event:

Shawn Michaels returns to London’s Royal Albert Hall on June 18

WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels will return to the iconic venue where he fought in the first-ever WWE match to take place at the Royal Albert Hall in 1991, appearing at the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament at the historic arena on Monday, June 18, alongside Triple H.

Michaels and his Rockers tag team partner Marty Jannetty took on The Nasty Boys in the opening match of the Battle Royal at the Royal Albert Hall event, which was screened live in the U.K. on Sky Movies and is available on-demand in its entirety on the award-winning WWE Network. The 1991 event is symbolic for WWE fans in the U.K., as it marked the start of 27 consecutive years of live events there, a streak that continues to this day. Now, members of the WWE Universe attending the WWE U.K. Championship Tournament event on June 18 can celebrate this historic occasion alongside HBK himself.

Currently a coach at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Fla., Michaels will be sure to share his experience with competitors from Great Britain, Ireland and beyond, having appeared at three of the five WWE live events held at the landmark arena to date.

As if HBK’s return to the Royal Albert Hall wasn’t enough, WWE fans can look forward to an appearance from Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE’s Executive Vice President, Talent, Live Events & Creative and the driving force behind the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament.

Triple H also appeared at the 147-year-old venue in October 1995 on the Full Metal Tour, the most recent WWE event to be held in the building opened in 1871 by Queen Victoria.

The WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament at the Royal Albert Hall on June 18 will feature competitors vying to earn an opportunity to challenge WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne the following night inside London’s most famous venue.

The BruiserWeight will also be in action on June 18, teaming with Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate & Trent Seven) to face NXT’s Undisputed ERA.

In addition to Dunne’s title defense against the tournament winner, the event on Tuesday, June 19, will feature three NXT championship matches, including an NXT North American Championship Match, an NXT Women’s Championship Match and an NXT Tag Team Championship Match, as well as a tag team match pitting NXT Champion Aleister Black & Ricochet against Velveteen Dream & EC3.

Tickets to see HBK at the Royal Albert Hall are available now at www.bookingsdirect.com and www.livenation.co.uk.

WWE Rumors: ICW & Progress Content Reportedly Coming To WWE Network

Published

on

In my own opinion, if you’re a wrestling fan and don’t subscribe to the WWE Network, I’m not sure what exactly you’re waiting for. While the Network is obviously loaded with WWE content, it also boasts a huge selection of classic WCW, ECW, Mid-South, NWA and a host of other programming, making it a must-have for the price.

There’s been a lot of rumor and speculation regarding other companies possibly bringing content to the WWE Network, one of the most talked about over the past couple of years being the United Kingdom’s Progress Wrestling and Insane Championship Wrestling. Progress is based out of London, England and has been the home of stars such as Mark Andrews, Marty Scurll, El Ligero and Pete Dunne among others. ICW is a Glasgow, Scotland based promotion which has housed the likes of Nikki Cross, Danny Burch, Jack Gallagher and Finn Balor to name a few.

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE may have reached an agreement with both promotions to air some of their programming on the WWE Network. At this time, nothing has been confirmed, however it’s believed an announcement could come during the United Kingdom Championship Tournament in London on June 18th and 19th.

EA’s Take: This is all pure speculation right now, but I know it has definitely been talked about for some time. WWE has sent out emails in the past to poll their subscribers on what they’d like to see on the Network, including both ICW and Progress. While I never want to pay more than what I am, that’s also been discussed, as well as possibly pricing tiers for viewers that want content like this. All I have to say is, “Take my money”.
