It looks like we just can’t seem to get away from the debate surrounding WWE’s relationship with Saudi Arabia and the Greatest Royal Rumble event, more specifically regarding the absence of female involvement. Color commentator Corey Graves may now have some heat on him for his views on the show.
The Wrestling Observer is reporting that after some cryptic comments made by Graves during the broadcast, in addition to an Instagram post that also seemed to reference his displeasure with the women being excluded:
It’s also being said by The Observer that people backstage felt as if Corey should not have made comments publicly, despite understanding his opinion. It was also noted that some are saying Graves is “more replaceable than he thinks he is”.
EA’s Take: I don’t know how much I believe that Graves would get canned over this, but since he was so blatantly public about it then having heat is believable. Quite frankly, at this point I’m tired of talking about the Greatest Royal Rumble to be honest. I’d compare it to politics here in the States; you’re either on one side or the other. There’s next to no in-between on this issue. Personally, I’m on the “wait and see” side of things when it comes to Saudi Arabia. You can’t expect another culture to just make a complete 180 degree turn on social issues overnight. Just think about it, it wasn’t very long ago women weren’t even allowed to attend an event like the GRR. Yes, I understand WWE is making a boatload of money as well, but slow your rolls people. It’s one step at a time. Perhaps before placing your judgment on another culture, you should direct your focus to the problems here with our own. Not everyone in this country has equal rights either.
