EA’s Weekly RAW YouTube Report (6/25/18)

WWE Raw YouTube

As we all know, social media and other outlets have become a huge means of drawing in interaction and viewers for WWE. Most people will point to television ratings like they did during the Monday Night Wars in the late 1990’s, however that can be skewed with so many various means of watching today that do not include cable television.

As you’ve become accustomed to, here is this week’s RAW YouTube Report (2:30 PM EST, 6/27/18):

  1. Braun Strowman destroys Kevin Owens’ car – 1.6 million views
  2. Kurt Angle addresses Brock Lesnar’s contract negotiations – 1.3 million views
  3. Bayley snaps on Sasha Banks – 1.1 million views
  4. Intercontinental Title Match: Dolph Ziggler vs. Seth Rollins – 843k views
  5. Braun Strowman & Kevin Owens vs. Baron Corbin & Finn Balor – 621k views
  6. Roman Reigns & Bobby Lashley vs. The Revival – 520k views
  7. Alexa Bliss vs. Natalya – 439k views

RAW’s YouTube “titan” Ronda Rousey has roughly three weeks remaining on her thirty day “suspension”, leaving the door open for other Superstars to step up and take the top spot after two straight weeks of ‘Rowdy’ Ronda drawing massive views (over 3 million two weeks ago, over 6 million last week). ‘Mr. Monster In The Bank’ Braun Strowman gladly steps into that spot with 1.6 million views, obviously a much smaller number than what Rousey was pulling. I feel as if Kevin Owens is the most entertaining Superstar in the company (ring work plus mic work) and he’s had a pension for grabbing solid numbers on these reports. Therefore, this entertaining segment that personally made me laugh, in addition to ‘The Prize Fighter’ teaming with Strowman is good for number one and number five.

Roman Reigns couples with General Manager Kurt Angle and Bobby Lashley to slide in at number two in RAW’s opening segment with 1.3 million. The focus of the segment was also on the future of Brock Lesnar and the Universal Title picture, which despite how you feel about Lesnar’s reign, certainly helps as well. Unfortunately, the action involving Reigns and Lashley doesn’t do nearly as well with a surprise loss to The Revival, who haven’t been able to get anything going on the red brand, at 520k views.

Number three was what a lot of fans have been waiting for as Bayley finally explodes on Sasha Banks after months and months of teasing us with this start-and-stop angle. I loved every second of this and I think I’m not alone, which is reflected with that large number that neither woman has ever drawn in my time doing these YouTube reports. Many members of the WWE Universe have complained that it’s taken too long (myself among them), however that obviously had very little affect on the interest for when it finally happened. Plus Bayley audibly dropped the old S-bomb (although it was bleeped obviously). Fun stuff.

For the second week in a row now, Seth Rollins fails to crack a million as he comes in at number four with his rematch for the Intercontinental Title. Great wrestling matches (which this was) don’t always necessarily translate into YouTube views, in my opinion mostly because it’s just a short clip and not the entirety of the match. Still though, if you missed the match, it’s a great way to see a glimpse of how much drama played out in RAW’s main event.

Wrapping up the top seven is our RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss taking on Ronda’s pal, Natalya. Not a lot to write home about with this one, despite Nattie picking up a somewhat surprising victory. There wasn’t much in the way of competition for the seventh spot as the only other action on RAW was Matt Hardy vs. Curtis Axel in a quick bout and The Authors Of Pain squashing some enhancement talents.

Mitchell’s AEW Continental Classic Update! (11/27/23)

What a start to the tournament!

Did your picks win points?

The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!

Here are your Gold League standings!

  • Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
  • Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
  • Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
  • Rush: 0-1, 0 points
  • Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
  • Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points

Here are your Blue League standings!

  • Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
  • Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
  • Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
  • Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
  • Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
  • Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete

My Thoughts:

Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.

Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.

In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
