WWE News: New Intercontinental Champion Crowned Tonight On RAW

Published

on

The night after Wrestlemania we had Day one of the Superstar Shakeup which saw Dolph Ziggler come from Smackdown Live back over to Monday Night RAW. Dolph didn’t come to the red brand alone as introduced former NXT Champion Drew McIntyre and they laid waste to Titus Worldwide. Since that night Dolph and Drew have become an unstoppable force and have only ran into one hiccup and that was when they lost a tag team battle royal a couple of weeks agao on RAW.

Seth Rollins has been on a roll like no other and it all beagin when Seth set a record in a Gauntlet match a couple of months ago on RAW. Rollins would continue that roll as he put on stellar matches against Finn Balor leading into Wrestlemania. It was at Wrestlemania that Seth would win the Intercontinental Championship in a triple threat match against both Finn Balor and The Miz. Since winning the title Seth would go on to become the definition of a fighting champion by defending the title all over the globe. Seth would even hold weekly open challenges on RAW.

Whenever you see a champion issue weekly open challenges it’s only a matter a time before it comes back to bite them in the butt and that’s exactly what happened tonight. In the first match of the night Seth came out and issued an open challenge for his Intercontinental Championship which lead to both Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre coming out. It would Dolph who would answer the challenge with Drew hanging out around ringside supporting Dolph.

In a shocking turn of events Dolph would counter a roll up attempt from Seth to shock the WWE Universe and win the Intercontinental Championship for the sixth time in his career.

Ja’Von’s Take: I’m a fan of both guys and each of them have brought prestige back to the workhorse title. After Seth retained the title against Elias last night after grabbing a hand full of his pants I thought that the feud between them would continue but as we saw tonight that is not the case. Seth dropping the title to Dolph tonight came a complete shock to me and everyone else as we saw the crowd’s reactions after the match. Could Dolph winning the title tonight lead to a new version of Shawn Michaels and Diesel? Could this lead to a Dolph Ziggler/Seth Rollins feud?

Sid Vicious On Prime Time With Sean Mooney, Talks WrestleMania VIII & More

Published

on

Sycho Sid WWF WWE

On the latest edition of former WWE announcer Sean Mooney’s podcast, Prime Time With Sean Mooney, former WWE and WCW Champion Sid Vicious was the special guest and had some very interesting comments regarding his run with the then-WWF back in 1991-92, including his main event match at WrestleMania VIII against ‘The Immortal’ Hulk Hogan.

According to Sid, he was not even aware of his first WrestleMania match (which you can also listen to in the clip above):

“You know Sean—and this is not an exaggeration—I don’t even remember my first WrestleMania. I didn’t realize it was WrestleMania and I’m not kidding you. I didn’t look at the booking sheet, I didn’t care who I was working with; I didn’t care. It was a business to me. I didn’t care if I won or lost, I just wanted to get paid. After my first WrestleMania, someone said to me ‘you know you’re main eventing WrestleMania?’ And I said, ‘No? Was I?’ I remember the Hoosier Dome, but I didn’t realize that was WrestleMania. I do remember doing the interviews for it, and having that Southern accent—I guess I was saying Wrestling Mania or saying it the wrong way—but there was a big sign that said ‘Tell Sid to just say ‘Mania’. At that point, Vince was already upset with me because I had already given my notice to quit. The reason was is because in that situation and in that company, I was in the wrong situation at the wrong time.”

Sid also addressed Hulk Hogan’s infamous comeback during matches, comparing it to The Three Stooges:

“This is the thing with that, Sean, is that particular era, that month of year of the business…Sean, you know this business…Hogan was already on the downhill skids. He wasn’t getting cheered. You know that ‘Three Stooges’ comeback wasn’t working anymore. You know that was his comeback, right? He copied that from Curly on the Three Stooges. Are you not aware of that? He presented it to me like that. I’ll never forget it; I thought I have to have a heel match, and goes, ‘No brother, this is going to be easy.’ He said, ‘You just beat me up a little bit and all of a sudden I’ll just do the shake and slap my face a couple times, like Curly does. You throw a punch, I’ll block it, you hit me, I’ll hit you. We’ll do that a couple times.’ And that’s how easy it was. It didn’t make for a good match, but it worked for him. When you’re doing that kind of match after that long of a time, people are going to shit on it, right They’re going to get tired of it—business was I wasn’t any better than Hogan—he’d had his run and we needed someone new.”
