WWE News: Rumor Killer On Ronda Rousey’s WWE Contract Length

Two-time WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair recently made an appearance for the Legend Of The Ring event in Hollywood, Florida with Hulk Hogan that made headlines, as the Hulkster stated that things were moving quickly towards a WWE return for himself (which you can check out here).

Also making some waves were comments made by ‘The Nature Boy’, who remarked that current WWE Superstar Ronda Rousey was only working under a one-year contract. The answer came when Flair was posed a question regarding a possible match against his daughter and current SmackDown Live Superstar, Charlotte Flair. ‘Naitch’ would claim that the match needed to take place soon:

“In my humble opinion, if Rousey wants to elevate her status in the company she needs to go through The Queen and The Queen ain’t afraid of her, I got news for you. I just saw her deadlift 315 lbs and she can bench 205 lbs for 6 reps. She is gifted beyond belief. I’m not involved obviously in any of the thinking but if they’re ever going to put the women where they belong, this is the year because I think Ronda has only signed a one-year deal and then she wants to get out of there. She wants to have kids and all that. She just needs to be be prepared to lose. Not if sure if Ronda likes that.”

After remembering back to when Rousey first arrived in the WWE in January, I did some digging and found Ronda’s previous comments to ESPN about the length of her contract with the company:

“They’ve got me for a multi-year deal and were just dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s so I didn’t lie about not putting pen to paper. I still haven’t yet but this is going to be my home for the next while.”

EA’s Take: I love you, Naitch, really do, but you’re wrong here. There it is, straight from the horse’s mouth herself, so everyone thinking she’s out the door next year can pump the brakes. Now, there has been speculation she may be looking to start having children with her husband, Travis Browne, however in such a case I’d imagine her contract would be frozen, thus extending her stay further should she have a baby and want to come back. It’s really amazing to me how many people have just taken Flair’s word here and run with it, as if he actually knows anything about people’s WWE deals other than perhaps Charlotte’s.

Mitchell’s AEW Continental Classic Update! (11/27/23)

What a start to the tournament!

Did your picks win points?

The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!

Here are your Gold League standings!

  • Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
  • Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
  • Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
  • Rush: 0-1, 0 points
  • Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
  • Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points

Here are your Blue League standings!

  • Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
  • Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
  • Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
  • Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
  • Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
  • Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete

My Thoughts:

Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.

Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.

In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
