WWE News: Shawn Michaels Says He Would Be Open To One More Match

It’s been eight years since arguably the best in-ring performer of all-time, ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels, retired from the WWE and for eight years, fans have wondered if we would ever see the WWE Hall Of Famer compete inside the squared circle again.

It isn’t a secret that wrestler retirements are about as flimsy as single-ply toilet paper, however ‘Mr. WrestleMania’ has remained strong in his position to stay retired. However, a recent interview revealed that ‘The Showstopper’ might be more open to another match than we think.

Speaking with SkySports to promote the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament on June 18th and 19th (where he’s scheduled to make an appearance), if the right offer came along, ‘HBK’ would certainly entertain it:

“I think it’s one of those that you would never say never about and if it was just for a one-off then it’s something that I would take a look at.

It would have to be done the right way and just for one match rather than something that ran for longer.

It could be possible but people would have to accept they wouldn’t be getting the Showstopper, Mr. WrestleMania, and that I’m 52 years old now.”

The multi-time WWE Champion would also remark that the most likely scenario would be a tag team match alongside Triple H, then addressed some opponents he’d love to meet up against:

“If it was the Shawn Michaels of 10 years ago I would love to have gotten in the ring with so many of the guys that are competing today.

AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan would be good, and then there’s the guys in NXT too. Someone like a Johnny Gargano would be fantastic.

But for a one-off match now, I’d need it to be a tag-team match where Hunter (Triple H) and I can just do a few crotch chops and have some fun.”

EA’s Take: Do we really want to see the short-haired, balding version of Shawn Michaels doing crotch chops? Michaels is 52 and as noted, has been out of the ring for 8 years now, twice as long as his sabbatical from 1998-2002. This might be unpopular, but I’d rather ‘HBK’ just stay retired unless he’s in need of a big payday. I just have no urge to see him come back for another match. Would it be cool? Sure, I’m still a fan at heart. I’m just not clamoring for it.
