Backstage: Gene Okerlund has caught up with Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura, who left commentary during the previous match. Jesse says that 3 heads are better than one and has helped Randy Savage scout the combatants in the tournament.

Match #10 Quarterfinals: Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat vs. ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage w/Elizabeth
Savage sticks his finger in Ricky’s face before the bell, Ricky goes after him, but Savage hides behind Elizabeth. As Ricky turns away, Savage with an attack from behind and the bell rings. Savage shoots Ricky in, but he slides through and knocks Savage to the outside. Savage grabs Steamboats leg and pulls him to outside, gaining the advantage. Back inside, he works Ricky over in the corner until the ref steps in between, allowing Ricky to headscissor Savage to over the top to the floor. Steamboat follows and hits knife-edge chops and an atomic drop, before he rolls Randy back inside. Savage hits the ropes, avoids a double chop, then runs into it anyway.

Savage with a back suplex after ducking a shot, as Jesse Ventura arrives back at commentary. Savage climbs the turnbuckle and catches a gut shot coming off the top. Ricky unloads with a knee lift and karate shots. Savage to the apron, gets brought in the hardway via a suplex. Steamboat to the top now, lands a crossbody, but only gets a count of 2. Macho absorbs punishment out on the apron, ref breaks it up and Savage pulls a pair of knucks out of his tights. Ricky goes to back suplex Savage back inside, Savage gives Steamboat a shot with the knucks and then covers to move on in the tournament.
Winner: ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage (Foreign Object)

  • EA’s Take: Lots of action and a quick pace, as you would expect from these two. This little nugget is just a mere sample of what would come from these two Picasso’s of the canvas in later years.

Backstage: Moondog Spot is with Gene, knawing away at his bone. Gene tells Spot that he’s got the Junkyard Dog next, but Spot doesn’t have anything coherent to say.

Match #11 Quarterfinals: Moondog Spot vs. Junkyard Dog
Spot attacks JYD as he’s getting into the ring. He climbs to the 2nd rope and jumps off for a diving headbutt, but JYD rolls out of the way. The bell has yet to ring and there’s not even a referee. JYD hits headbutts of his own to Spot, covers and makes his own 3 count. The bell rings and that’s how they leave it. JYD advances.
Winner: Junkyard Dog (Headbutt)

  • EA’s Take: Mmmkay. That was fun.

Backstage: Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan joins Gene for the second time tonight. Heenan gives his thoughts on the WWF Championship match tonight, he believes that Hulk Hogan is worn out and Roddy Piper will be crowned the new champion tonight.

Match #12 Quarterfinals: ‘Mr. Wonderful’ Paul Orndorff vs. WWF Intercontinental Champion Tito Santana
The referee gives the instructions, the men shake hands and we’re underway. Tito gets a side headlock, then a takedown, getting Ordorff to the mat. Orndorff powers out with a top wristlock, but gets caught in a headscissors. Mr. Wonderful escapes, but is immediately caught in it again. Orndorff floats over into a cover for 2, they quickly get back to their feet and we have a stand-off. Orndorff goes into a hammerlock, grinding Tito down to the canvas. Santana gets to his feet and switches it, Orndorff goes to the ropes to break and they stand-off again. They lock-up, backing into the ropes and break clean. Lock-up again, Tito with a side headlock, gets reversed into an atomic drop and Tito’s leg is hurt.

Orndorff wants the ref to check on Santana, Tito back to his feet and gets put to the mat again with a drop toe hold. Orndorff working the injured leg now and Santana is in pain. Orndorff tries to switch to a different leg hold and Santana kicks him off. They circle and lock-up again, backing into the ropes and Mr. Wonderful doesn’t break clean this time, delivering a forearm shiver that sends Tito outside to the floor. Orndorff follows and now we’ve got a slugfest. The ref’s count reaches 10 as they battle some more outside before realizing the match is over and they’ve both been eliminated.
Winner: Double Count-Out

  • EA’s Take: An interesting way to end this one, so I guess nobody will get the $50,000 that Bobby Heenan put on Paul Orndorff’s head. A really scientific match between two babyfaces, that built to a boiling point with both men eventually slugging it out. With the double elimination, Junkyard Dog automatically advances to the finals while Randy Savage & The Dynamite Kid have to compete again to get there.

Tournament Board: Lord Alfred is getting handsy with Susan again, McMahon gets his attention and they recap the semi-final match between Dynamite Kid and Randy Savage.

Match #13 For The WWF Heavyweight Championship: ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper vs. WWF Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan
Piper is led to the ring by a Scottish band. Gene Okerlund gets some comments from Hulk Hogan backstage before the match. Hogan says it’s time for Piper to feel the power of Hulkamania coming down on him. They have a brief tug of war with the title and the bell rings as Piper attacks Hogan. Hogan is sent to the outside, but he drags Piper out with him and they slug it out. They go back inside, Piper to the eyes to gain control and he follows with shots to the throat. He shoots Hogan into the corner, reversed and Hogan follows him in with a clothesline that drops Piper face-first. Hogan with a back suplex and a body slam, followed by mulitple elbow drops.

Piper’s taking a beating in the corner, the referee steps in and Piper to the eyes once again to thwart the momentum. Piper punishes the champion now with rights and boots, he climbs the 2nd rope and jumps off, getting caught in a bearhug. Piper rakes at the face of Hogan to break, follows up with a series of right and mulitple near falls. Hogan is whipped into the ropes and Piper gets the sleeper hold, climbing onto the back of Hogan and riding him to the mat. Hogan appears to be out, the ref checks his arm and it drops twice. On the third time, Hogan comes back to life and runs out over the top rope to the concrete with Piper still on his back.

Roddy tries to ram Hogan into the post, but is shoved off and eats it himself. Hogan absorbs a couple shots that have no affect, Piper runs for the ring and Hogan catches him inside. Piper into the ropes, runs right into the big boot and then suffers an atomic drop. Hogan sends Piper into the ropes again, reversed and Piper side-steps Hogan who runs into the referee and they both go down. Roddy jumps to the outside and grabs a chair, connecting to the back of Hogan. He tries to ram it down on a laid-out Hogan, but he catches the chair and delivers a shot of his own to Piper with it. Hogan wraps Piper up with a sleeper hold and in comes ‘Cowboy’ Bob Orton, nailing Hogan from behind and doing a number on the champion with Piper to cause a disqualification.
Winner and STILL WWF Heavyweight Champion: Hulk Hogan (Disqualification)

  • After The Bell: ‘Mr. Wonderful’ Paul Orndorff is out with a chair of his own and he makes the save. Hulk poses for the crowd after retaining his title.
  • EA’s Take: Once again, the Hulkster is unable to defeat Roddy Piper cleanly. Shouldn’t this have been the main event? Or at least the second to last match on the card? Now whoever advances to the finals of the tournament against Junkyard Dog will be having 2 matches in a row.
