Jeff Jarrett Talks Owen Hart’s Passing On Latest Prime Time With Sean Mooney

Published

The Chairshot was sent along the following clip below from the newest episode of Prime Time With Sean Mooney featuring special guest Jeff Jarrett discussing his relationship with Owen Hart. Below are some highlights:

On Becoming Close With Owen

“And that was something, you know I met Owen, he came to Memphis in ’91 I think and you know, when he came…and I can remember just very spontaneously because Lawler and Bret had their thing going on with the WWF-slash-E and so me and Owen the “sidekicks” to that story, but we had tag matches in Memphis and around the loop, but no, me and Owen immediately hit it off. By this stage in both of our careers, he married, had two kids and just a lot of similarities.

You know Owen was, man, obviously anybody that knew him…he, obviously great prankster, great ribber. Just…I’ve said it and I always use this opportunity if somebody asks about Owen, just the human being. I was attracted to the integrity and the realness or the humanness. You know, I could get in a car with him and we could drive, you know, 15 miles or three or four hundred miles, you didn’t have to talk about wrestling, if you did talk about wrestling we were both sons of promoters so we looked at it from a different perspective, had funny stories about our old men or territory days or territory stories. But you know, just on life in general and Owen really, really was a wise man and I just always enjoyed so much about traveling with him and you know, he’s a legendary ribber and prankster.”

Having To Perform After Owen’s Tragic Accident At Over The Edge

“When I say ‘Going through the motions’, that is something that is strictly instinct because me and Owen dressed in that building in a really, really small…you know pay-per-view Sundays, every nook and cranny’s filled with wrestlers or production crates or whatever. We’d found a small locker room and I can remember him walking out of the dressing room and I was on after him. You know, I knew that I had a good 15, maybe even 20 minutes and it was literally minutes I hear somebody screaming, ‘You’re up! You’re up!’, and I’m like, ‘No I’m not’, and they go ‘Yeah’. I can remember like, ‘What? Thank God I have my boots’, and I’m essentially ready.

I can remember walking down the hall and they said he had an accident. It was, you know, nothing ever…obviously in your wildest dreams…it’s a blown out knee or you know, whatever, just something so trivial and you get all set. To this day I haven’t watched it back, but you know you get all set and and then all of a sudden a mass of people come through and people are…the gentleman on top of Owen doing CPR and compressions and so I’m told, the look on my face set in and you realize it and then do the promo and go to the ring. That was a first and at the end of last year, for those that know, they’ll know what I’m talking about and those who don’t, they don’t know.

But I had some discussion as a part of a treatment that uh, that was discussed very deeply and very privately, but I knew something was wrong then because just the aura and the vibe and walking through the curtain after that match…the police car, they had it set up for me. God bless ’em they did, you know, I drove immediately to the hospital. I can remember one of the ER people walking out and meeting me and giving me the news…it was just really…it’s a complete tragic…in so many ways. In so many ways to this day it affected people, but I like to remember Owen, the fun days and the good days.”

Mitchell’s AEW Continental Classic Update! (11/27/23)

What a start to the tournament!

Did your picks win points?

The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!

Here are your Gold League standings!

  • Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
  • Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
  • Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
  • Rush: 0-1, 0 points
  • Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
  • Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points

Here are your Blue League standings!

  • Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
  • Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
  • Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
  • Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
  • Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
  • Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete

My Thoughts:

Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.

Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.

In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
