ROH Rumors: Ring Of Honor Reportedly Reaches Out To CM Punk For MSG Show

Published

on

It’s been over four years since the last time former WWE Superstar CM Punk competed inside the squared circle, quitting the company and the business in general after the 2014 Royal Rumble. Despite this, Punk has remained a polarizing figure in the wrestling industry with fans still clamoring for his return to the ring. Punk, who has said that he’s finished with wrestling, of course ventured into the mixed martial arts world where he is now 0-2 after losing to Mike Jackson at UFC 225 back on June 9th.

Even though the multi-time WWE Champion has remained strong in his stance that he won’t wrestle again, that certainly has not stopped promotions from reaching out to him for appearances. According to F4WOnline, Ring Of Honor has reportedly reached out to Punk in an effort to procure him for the company’s debut at Madison Square Garden for the G1 Supercard with New Japan Pro Wrestling on April 6th, 2019 during WrestleMania weekend. At this time, it’s being said that Punk accepting any offer to appear is considered a “long shot”.

This comes after the rumor mill exploded over the possibility of CM Punk showing up at the big All In event in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois on September 1st after it was reported that he popped up backstage for the event’s press conference. (for more on that go here)

EA’s Take: I’ve been fairly vocal about my feelings on Punk and honestly, I couldn’t care less if he ever came back to wrestling. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be a cool moment as a fan, but I’m definitely not one of the people calling for it. Do I see it happening? Who the hell knows at this point? I’d say ROH did what they were supposed to do by at least trying to get him for such a big event. Trying to fill MSG is going to be a task for them, especially going head-to-head with NXT TakeOver the same night which we KNOW will deliver as it always does.

WWE News: Triple H Comments On New Performance Center Recruits

Published

on

Earlier today we told you about the new recruits to the WWE Performance center. (You can read about there here) Now, Triple H has commented on the new recruits.

Jason’s Take
This is a very interesting performance center class and it is one I am very excited about. Mia Yim is an extremely eexperienced wrestler, and should add some well needed depth to the NXT women’s division. She has taken on some of the best including Kimber Lee, Cherry Bomb, and Sara Del Ray.

Chelsea Green was released from Impact earlier this year in what I thought was a head scratching move. She has the ability to work both heel or face and do it very effectively.

Matt Riddle is the obvious centerpiece of this training class. He has long been rumored to be signing with WWE and now it has finally happened. I do not see Riddle lasting in NXT for very long before moving up to the main roster.

WWE News: FOX Wants Changes To Smackdown

Published

on

FOX has spent a large amount of money to acquire the rights for Smackdown in 2019. Now, in the latest addition of the Wrestling Observer newsletter, Dave Meltzer is reporting that FOX wants Smackdown to be more sports oriented and less comedy based.

The plan currently for Fox is to have a weekend sports block that begins on Thursday night with coverage of the NFL, Smackdown on Friday, NCAA Football on Saturday, and NFL on Sunday.

It will be interesting to see what direction WWE and Vince McMahon decides to take. Fans have long wanted an end to the PG Era of WWE.

Jason’s Thoughts
Even though WWE may most likely change their product, I don’t see a move towards the attitude era. The Smackdown brand has been the stronger brand as far as talent is concerned. The story lines and character development are much better than what is on RAW. It would be great to see more wrestling out of Smackdown as I feel potentially it can beat RAW in the ratings.

WWE News: WWE Reportedly Eyeing Germany For Next Regional Brand

Published

on

The highly anticipated NXT UK finally premiered on the WWE Network yesterday, the next step in Triple H’s long-term plans for global development of not just NXT, but the company overall.

Previously, ‘The Game’ has spoken about his vision of opening something similar to the wrestling territory days of old, but with WWE having Performance Centers across different countries. Now that NXT UK has launched, it looks like the company has already been working on its next possible venture.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Germany is next on WWE’s agenda, as the company is currently looking into creating a product similar to NXT UK. As was noted back in late-August, the company will be holding tryouts in Cologne in November (read that here) and it’s being said the reason for doing it is to begin building for a new brand.

We’ve also noted how WWE is interested in signing Austrian star WALTER, however due to his commitments with Germany’s wXw it would only be likely should he sign a deal similar to NXT UK Superstars Pete Dunne or Tyler Bate (check that out here). Now of course, this would allow the company to sign WALTER while he’s able to be home more, which was reportedly also a sticking point. Additionally, Performance Center coach Robbie Brookside has been working with wXw of late, reportedly with the hopes of the company utilizing wXw much like they do PROGRESS in the United Kingdom with regards to putting on shows.
