WWE News: SmackDown Live Event Results From Augusta, Maine, Shinsuke Returns (7/9/18)

Published

WWE Shinsuke Nakamura

As it was noted earlier, while Monday Night RAW is taking place in Boston currently, SmackDown Live was in Augusta, Maine tonight for a Live Event. NXT Superstar Nikki Cross made a surprise appearance to team with Becky Lynch against The IIconics (which you can check out here), however that wasn’t the only Superstar to show up that fans probably didn’t expect to see.

Although it was announced that Shinsuke Nakamura would be making his return tomorrow night on SmackDown Live (read about that here), ‘The King Of Strong Style’ was back in the ring tonight to face AJ Styles for the WWE Championship. Below are the results from tonight’s event:

  • United States Title Triple Threat: Jeff Hardy retained over The Miz & Samoa Joe
  • Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas defeated Sin Cara
  • Becky Lynch & Nikki Cross defeated The IIconics
  • Rusev defeated Tye Dillinger
  • The New Day defeated SAnitY by DQ
  • SmackDown Tag Team Title: The Bludgeon Brothers retained over Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson
  • SmackDown Women’s Title: Carmella retained over Naomi
  • WWE Title No Disqualifications: AJ Styles retained over Shinsuke Nakamura

WWE News: Vignette For Returning Superstar Airs On RAW

Sami Zayn
WWE is promoting the return of Sami Zayn!

Monday Night RAW this evening has already had a couple of news stories thus far, of course stemming from the return of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon to “shake things up” (see what went down here).

Part of that announcement that was made with the help of Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H was that we would be seeing fresh matches and new Superstars, later revealing six NXT talents that will be heading to RAW and SmackDown Live (check out who’s coming up).

On top of the new additions, more help will be on the way for both rosters in the coming months as a number of Superstars will be returning from injuries and tonight, we got an indication of one coming back in the very near future. After undergoing surgery on both of his shoulders, the last being back in August (find that story here), a vignette for the return of Sami Zayn aired tonight on RAW. Sami was initially shelved in June, making his last appearance on WWE television at Money In The Bank in a match against Bobby Lashley. During the recovery process, the expectation remained that Zayn would be medically cleared by WrestleMania in April at the latest, of course barring any setbacks.

WWE News: WWE Reveals New Superstars Coming To RAW & SmackDown Live

EC3
Which new Superstars will be heading to WWE’s main roster!

As we noted, tonight’s episode of Monday Night RAW kicked off with Vince McMahon’s announcement, which was more like Vince, Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H’s announcement (see more on that here).

Regardless, among what was said by the four members of the McMahon Family was that they would be listening to the fans who are now “The Authority”, as well as providing fresh matches and fresh faces on RAW and SmackDown Live. Now of course this led many to believe we will be getting a number of NXT call-ups and while that had yet to be determined, later on in the broadcast it was confirmed.

As RAW continued, we would get profiles of six new talents coming up to the shows from NXT, including a man we’ve seen vignettes of since Survivor Series, Lars Sullivan. The other five are a mix of what some fans would expect, while others are a bit of a surprise. The Superstars in question are Nikki Cross, who has already made her SmackDown Live debut a number of weeks back, the team of Otis Dozovic and Tucker Knight, Heavy Machinery, ‘The Lady of NXT’ Lacey Evans and lastly, ‘The Top One Percent’ EC3.

Follow along with all things RAW tonight using Mitchell’s Live Report.
