WWE News: Aleister Black Officially Removed From NXT TakeOver

Published

on

After suffering an injury at a Live Event in Las Vegas at the end of June, the status of NXT Superstar Aleister Black for TakeOver: Brooklyn IV on August 18th has been in serious jeopardy.

Black underwent surgery shortly after for a groin injury, with initial reports claiming he may still be able to compete. However, following last night’s episode of NXT, an angle was run where Aleister had been mysteriously attacked outside of the building in the parking lot (read about that here) as WWE seemingly was giving themselves an out for the previously announced Triple Threat NXT Title match that would have seen Black face Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa.

NXT General Manager William Regal has no announced that Aleister is official out for TakeOver, stating that the NXT Title match will now be Gargano vs. Ciampa in a Last Man Standing match:

WWE Rumors: Possible Plans For WWE Evolution Main Event

Published

on

Ronda Rousey WWE RAW Debut

After the news that WWE’s first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view, Evolution, on October 28th from the Nassau Coliseum will feature a match of past vs. present when Alexa Bliss goes one-on-one with WWE Hall Of Famer Trish Stratus, there’s reportedly been early talk of another such match to main event the show.

According to Dave Meltzer on the newest Wrestling Observer Radio, the main event discussion right now is for Ronda Rousey to take on Nikki Bella in an effort to bring more mainstream media attention to the event:

“So the plan for Ronda Rousey early in the week was Nikki Bella. They’re the two most famous women’s stars in the company and they should be the main event of the first women’s pay-per-view. They are the two best at getting mainstream attention and that was the idea.

There were other options batted around like everything, it could change tomorrow but that was the idea.”

While plans can always change on a daily basis as noted by Meltzer, the thought behind this would be to give Rousey another ‘dream match scenario’ early on in her WWE tenure, especially considering the long-term in-ring future of Nikki Bella due to her battle with neck injuries. Additionally, it’s also being said that the angle could be setup as early as tonight at SummerSlam.

Nikki is of course no longer a full-time competitor after having another scare with her surgically repaired neck in the lead-up to her WrestleMania 33 match last year when she teamed with John Cena to face The Miz and Maryse. Her last match came back in January of this year, taking part in the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble where she made it to the final two before being eliminated by Asuka.

EA’s Take: Let the pissing and moaning begin (actually, it already has). While I personally don’t care to see the match and think Nikki should just give it up already with the shape her neck is in, that doesn’t mean I don’t understand the decision should this be the case. What better way to draw more attention to the company’s first all-women’s show than with the two most mainstream Superstars? Lest we forget, Nikki was vastly improved in the ring during her last full-time run, so it’s not as if she can’t have a good match. I think people complain just for the sake of complaining at this point.

WWE Rumors: Speculation On An Asuka Heel Turn In The Near Future

Published

on

After going undefeated in the WWE for 914 days, SmackDown Live Superstar Asuka has seen her stock in the eyes of some fans drop considerably, succumbing to multiple losses this year at the hands of Charlotte Flair and current SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella.

While ‘The Empress Of Tomorrow’ was about as hot as any Superstar during her historic run from NXT to the main roster, the entirety of her WWE career has been as a babyface. However, that could very well be changing in the near future.

According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, there’s been talk within WWE of turning Asuka heel. There’s no word on when the switch could take place and very likely wouldn’t be tonight at SummerSlam, as she’s not scheduled to appear. However, it’s been added that WWE does in-fact have plans for her even though she is no longer being booked as unbeatable over the past number of months.

Currently, there’s speculation that the turn could take place before the company’s first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view, Evolution, taking place on Sunday, October 28th from the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.

EA’s Take: I’d certainly be all for an Asuka heel turn, she needs something to happen as all the momentum she had previously is now gone. Not that it’s any surprise, we’ve seen multiple examples of performers who have had a long-running winning streak lose their luster once it comes to an end. Ryback, Goldberg and even Wrath in WCW immediately come to mind. So as I said, I’d be good with a heel turn for her. We already saw it teased previously in NXT during her feud with Bayley, so why not pull the trigger this time.

WWE News: Stipulation Added To Tonight’s Cruiserweight Championship Match

Published

on

With WWE’s SummerSlam now just a mere few hours away from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, there’s been a stipulation added to the scheduled Cruiserweight Championship match on the Kickoff, which will see Cedric Alexander defending against the number one contender, Drew Gulak.

Over the past few weeks on 205 Live, Cedric has had his hands full not only with the challenger, but Gulak’s cohorts in The Brian Kendrick and ‘Gentleman’ Jack Gallagher. Due to Gallagher and Kendrick continuously inserting themselves into Alexander’s matches and in essence his life on the purple brand, General Manager Drake Maverick announced today that both Kendrick and Gallagher have been banned from ringside:

You can catch all the action from the SummerSlam Kickoff live on the WWE Network, as well as on YouTube beginning at 5PM EST. Also, don’t miss Mitchell’s Live SummerSlam Coverage, as well as instant reactions from members of The Chairshot on Twitter (@theCHAIRSHOTcom).
