WWE News: RAW Rating Increases Again, Stays Ranked #1 (8/20/18)

WWE RAW

Following SummerSlam on Sunday, last night’s episode of Monday Night RAW returned to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn one week after the red brand saw their viewership slightly increase and move back up to number one in the Cable Top 150 Rankings. So how did the post-SummerSlam episode do?

The ratings are in and RAW saw an increase for the second straight week, this time around being a bit more significant of a jump with a 3.095, a 9.5% jump from last week’s 2.825. Here’s a look at the last four weeks worth of ratings for the red brand:

  • July 30th: 2.901
  • August 6th: 2.804
  • August 13th: 2.825
  • August 20th: 3.095

As for the Cable Top 150 Rankings in the 18-49 demographic, RAW saw some competition for the first time in a number of weeks, but still remained at the number one spot:

  1. Monday Night RAW (9PM) – USA Network – 1.09
  2. 2018 Video Music Awards – MTV – 1.08
  3. Monday Night RAW (10PM) – USA Network – 1.05
  4. Monday Night RAW (8PM) – USA Network – 1.04
  5. Love & Hip Hop Hollywood – VH1 – 0.99

EA’s Take: Brock Lesnar’s Universal Title reign is over and Roman Reigns is the new champion, plus Ronda Rousey’s RAW Women’s Title run began last night on RAW. On top of that, it was the post-SummerSlam episode, which has usually seen call-ups and the start of new storylines or angles. All of that, in my opinion, contributes to the jump in ratings for the red brand on a night where it was up against some decent competition with the MTV VMA’s, plus preseason Monday Night Football. While RAW wasn’t exactly the best episode (what little I was able to see due to cable and internet issues all evening long), it was still enough to keep it as the top dog in the crucial 18-49 demographic. With The Shield reuniting last night being the biggest story, is that enough to keep momentum rolling in the weeks to come? Personally, it may help out, but as we head into football’s regular season, I still think we’re going to see some drops that the fans who are negative on anything WWE does will certainly have a field day with.

What a start to the tournament!

Did your picks win points?

The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!

Here are your Gold League standings!

  • Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
  • Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
  • Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
  • Rush: 0-1, 0 points
  • Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
  • Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points

Here are your Blue League standings!

  • Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
  • Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
  • Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
  • Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
  • Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
  • Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete

My Thoughts:

Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.

Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.

In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
