PLAY BY PLAY

It’s Season 2 of WWE Mixed Match Challenge!

The original edition of this charity tournament was only just back in January to April, but it’s back already! Team AWESKA, The Miz & Asuka, were the inaugural winners and are back for this season, but they’ll be a later week. Tonight, we see three new teams made while one team returns. The Monster Among Men was going to team with The Goddess, Alexa Bliss, but the Baddest Woman on the Planet roughed her up worse than expected. Fear not, because now the Monster has the WAR Goddess at his side! They take on the Canadian combination, #TeamPawz! Kevin Owens isn’t really on-board with the name, but will he give in when they make it a win? Or will both he and Natty #GetTheseHands as they’re Eclipsed out of the competition?

Meanwhile, the husband-wife combo of #DayOneGlow returns, as Jimmy Uso again teams with Naomi. They will first meet this new combination of Charlotte Flair & AJ Styles. Charlotte’s loss at Hell in a Cell keeps this duo from being a completely golden team, but can they still win with #FenominalFlair?

Braun Strowman & Ember Moon VS Kevin Owens & Natalya!

The #MonsterEclipse plans to make this impromptu team-up work out, but can they conquer the Canadian combo? Or will #TeamPawz bring the claws and scratch Strowman & Moon off the list?

Fans chant “Get These Hands!” for Strowman but Natty covers Kevin’s ears so he won’t have to hear it. Strowman says Kevin doesn’t have to worry about him, because Kevin might get Ember’s hands! Natty says they’ll #GetThesePaws instead, but the bell rings and we begin with the men. Kevin tries to use his helping The Pack as a reason they shouldn’t fight. He tags out to Natty, so Ember comes in. Strowman hopes Ember rips Natty’s head off, and Ember grins at the opportunity. Ember and Natty tie up, Natty rolls up, ONE. Natty gets a headlock then the wristlock while fans chant “Rip Her Head Off!” Ember reverses to a headlock takedown, but then Natty rolls it to a cover. ONE, but Ember gets the headlock back on.

Natty gets out to a hammerlock, but Ember standing switches. Ember rolls Natty, TWO. Ember is on Natty with a facelock, but Natty reverses to a hammerlock. Alicia Fox and Jinder Mahal watch backstage while on Facebook posting. Natty gets Ember down with an armlock, but Ember headscissors back. Natty pops out and gets a headlock. Ember powers out but Natty runs her over. Natty says “Me-ow”, then runs. She handsprings over Ember but Ember handsprings up. The fans like even match. Ember mocks the cat paws, but Natty grabs her in a waistlock. Ember standing switches and rolls up, TWO. Natty’s hip toss is denied, and Ember gets the headscissors. Cover, TWO!

Ember brings Natty back up and rocks Natty with a kick. She whips Natty to a corner and hits a back elbow. She puts Natty down, and climbs up top! Fans know what this means, but so does Natty! Natty trips Ember up, then brings her in for a spinning sit-out powerbomb! Then Sharpshooter! Natty gets Ember over, and Ember endures. Ember drags her way to her corner, and Strowman is ready for the tag. Natty puts as much pressure as she can, but Strowman coaches Ember on. Ember fights through the pain to continue towards her corner. She grits her teeth for one last effort, but Natty drags her away! Strowman gets in and drags Ember over! Hot tag! Kevin comes in but he does #GetTheseHands! Strowman hits a splash, runs corner to corner for another splash, but then runs into a boot!

Kevin hops up, to get an uppercut! He bails out of the ring, but everyone knows what Strowman does here. Strowman runs around the corner, to blast Kevin into barriers! Kevin barely stands before Strowman comes back around, for a SUPERKICK! Kevin throws Strowman into the post, then over the announce desk! Strowman is vulnerable to the 10 count! Strowman stirs while Kevin hobbles in the ring. The count reaches 8, but Strowman gets in at 9! Kevin grimaces as he SUPERKICKS Strowman again! Then Kevin goes corner to corner, but into Strowman’s hand!

Strowman clobbers Kevin with a forearm, then scoops. Kevin slips out, tags Natty, so Ember has to come in. Strowman seethes while Natty goes for the legs. Ember pushes her away to then enziguri on the rebound! Ember wants Strowman in, but not to fight. Kevin runs in so he gets a clobbering right hand! Strowman then becomes Ember’s tower, much like he was for Alexa Bliss last time. Natty gets a SUPER ECLIPSE!! Cover, Ember & Strowman win!

Winners: Braun Strowman & Ember Moon, Moon pinning

It may be a different goddess, but Strowman is still one-half of a successful combination. They go up to 1-0 while Kevin & Natty go 0-1, will Strowman end up going all the way with Ember instead of Alexa?

AJ Styles & Charlotte Flair VS Jimmy Uso & Naomi!

SmackDown is still the House that AJ Styles–and Charlotte Flair–Built, but only one of them is champion at the moment. Will they still be able to win with #FenomenalFlair? Or will they feel that #DayOneGlow instead?

The #FabulousTruth is commenting on this match while the two teams have a “WOO!” fight. Only Charlotte does it well because she’s a true Flair. But for now, the teams sort out, and Charlotte even Too Sweets with Styles. Styles and Jimmy start, circle and trash talk. They tie up, and Jimmy gets a headlock. Styles powers out, but Jimmy runs him over with a shoulder. Jimmy runs but Styles hip tosses him down. Jimmy pushes him away to then arm-drag Styles. Styles arm-drags back and we have a stand-off. Jimmy and Styles both grin while they circle. Fans echo the “WOO!” as Styles and Jimmy tie up again.

They both kick but both block. They argue over who puts who down first, so they settle on doing it together. The two then separate, and fans applaud the sportsmanship. Jimmy and Styles shake hands, but then hold on. Now they argue over who lets go first. Jimmy pries himself free, and then they both argue over who tags out first. Charlotte tags in so Naomi comes in, though she tags for good measure. Styles styles and profiles, but it still isn’t quite right. Charlotte circles with Naomi and they tie up. Naomi gets a wristlock and an arm wrench. Charlotte wrenches back but Naomi flips and rolls then sweeps to kick Charlotte right in the jaw! They speed up and Charlotte trips up Naomi. Charlotte boots Naomi down, then does her best twerk. Even she’s not 100% sure if it was all that good.

Naomi grins while Charlotte shows Styles how to style and profile. Charlotte and Naomi circle, then fist bump out of respect. They tie up again and Naomi gets a headlock. Charlotte powers out but Naomi sunset flips with a high stack, TWO! Naomi gets a takedown to jackknife, TWO! Charlotte bridges to backslide but Naomi hops off. Now these two catch each other’s kicks. They shake hands and carefully set each other down. Then Naomi swings, only to get rolled up with a bridge, TWO! Naomi trips Charlotte, runs and hits a split leg splash! Cover, TWO! Charlotte gets to ropes but Naomi runs in to baseball slide her out. Styles checks on Charlotte given her arm, but Naomi slingshots over! Styles catches her, but Jimmy takes his wife back.

They all argue over who grabbed who and who did what, so Charlotte takes advantage to slingshot on BOTH Jimmy & Naomi! High ten for #FenomenalFlair, and fans chant “Too Sweet! Woo woo!” Jimmy helps Naomi up and into the ring, and Naomi roundhouses Charlotte back. She adds a sliding lariat, then covers, TWO! Naomi stands Charlotte up but Charlotte unleashes Flair chops! Naomi ducks on to hit a double Sole Food! Jimmy realizes Natty left her cat ears behind while Naomi slides and slaps Charlotte. Jim-mew cheers while Naomi goes for the split-leg moonsault! Charlotte dodges, and now she goes up. Charlotte goes for her moonsault, and hits it! Cover, TWO!! Carmella & Truth are still working on social media posts while both women slowly stir. Fans rally up, and both women crawl for their corners.

Hot tag to Jimmy, so Styles comes in. He uses Charlotte as a step stool to hit Jimmy! Styles hits a big corner clothesline, then the ushigoroshi! Cover, TWO! Styles drags Jimmy back up, wants the Clash, but Jimmy counters to a Samoan Drop! Both men are down now, but fans build to another rally. Jimmy goes to kick, Styles deflects but gets the reverse dragon whip! Styles PELE, but Naomi tags in. Jimmy and Naomi work together, and Naomi headscissors Styles down! Charlotte returns to toss Naomi out, and puts JIMMY in the Figure Four!? But Naomi comes in with a frog splash! Cover, but Styles breaks it with a yank. Jimmy misses his kick and gets tossed out, Styles gets a Rear View! Charlotte boots Naomi, then puts HER in the Figure Four! She bridges through, to Figure Eight! Naomi taps out, Charlotte & Styles win!

Winners: Styles & Flair, Flair by submission

The champion and the Queen go up 1-0 in the SmackDown block while husband & wife go down to 0-1. There’s still plenty of time, will #FenomenalFlair maintain this momentum? Or will Jimmy & Naomi manage to #LockDown the rest of the competition and make it to the finals?

My Thoughts:

This will probably be the one and only time I do a segment like this for this WWE series. Mixed Match Challenge is pretty much all filler this time around with there being no charities mentioned. That’s a bit of a shame, you’d think WWE could still give $100,000 with all that money coming in from new television deals and the multiple Saudi Arabia events, but oh well. This was a lot of fun, and I’m sure every week of this will be fun, but I’m not sure what the point is other than that if there’s no money on the line. I do like that it’s round robin now, so that we get all the possible combinations within the Raw and SmackDown blocks. And given that it’s round robin, it’s anyone’s tournament for the first time through, but I bet we’ll get Strowman-Moon VS Miz-Asuka for finals.

La Parkita, Nino Hamburguesa, and Dinastia vs La Parkita Negra, Arkangel Divino, and Ultimo Maldito

Maldito and Hamburger Boy are in next and Hamburger boy hits a shoulder block. Negra hits a reverseranna on Parkita. They team up on Hamburger Boy. Boy counters with a headlock, head scissors take over on Negra and Maldito. Dinastia and Divino are in and Dinastia hits a power slam on him. Negra beats on Dinastia and Parkita works on him. Maldito then works over Parkita. Maldito hits a tiger pile driver on him. Dinastia hits a asai moonsault, then celebrates even though he hit his teammate. Divino does a moonsault off the top. They get everyone seated in the corner and Hamburger Boy does a running senton. Then he goes to the top and splashes them for the win. Hamburger Boy pins Parkita Negra with a top rope splash.

Winners: La Parkita, Nino Hamburguesa, and Dinastia

Starfire and Lady Maravilla vs Mamba and Lady Shani

Shani and Starefire start the match out with some grappling. Maravilla comes in quick to double Shani. Afterwards they double Mamba. Starfire hits a drop kick off the top. Mamba hits a big move on Maravilla and now they’re getting the heat back doubling Starfire. We get back to normalcy in the ring. Shani hits a drop kick on Starfire. She gets to the top and hits a hurricanrana on Shani. Maravilla drop kicks Mamba to the outside and hits a cross body to the outside. Starfire hits a michinoku driver on Shani for a two count. Shani hits the Okada neck breaker and the ref counts slow. Shani argues with the ref and Starfire comes from behind and hits a german suplex for a fast count. Starfire pins Lady Shani with a german suplex and fast count.

Starfire wants a title fight after the match. Not immediately, in the future. They brawl after the match and promo.

Winners: Lady Maravilla and Starfire

Laredo Kid, Hijo Del Vikingo, and Myzteziz Jr vs Taurus, Australian Suicide, and Jack Evans

Match starts with Jack Evans and Laredo Kid. Evans gets crotched on the post and Kid drop kicks him. Vikingo and Myzteziz dive to the outside on the others. They triple drop kick Evans in the corner. Kid code breakers Suicide then holds him. Vikingo jumps off Myzteziz and stomps the back of Suicide. Taurus gets Myzteziz on his shoulders then catches Kid for a double fall away slam. Suicide does a press slam into a code breaker on Vikingo. He holds him and Evans hits a 450, then Taurus hits a splash. Taurus holds up Myzteziz, Evans on the top bounces off him and helps Suicide complete his pile driver on Vikingo. Vikingo makes all of them miss corner attacks. He does a moonsault off of Myzteziz and Kid’s hands on the top, then they hit their own moonsault dives after that. Incredible spot, Luchablog has the gif of it on twitter, find it.

Myzteziz hits a Canadian destroyer on Evans but Suicide breaks up the pin. Suicide then does a springboard destroyer to him, but Vikingo breaks up the pin. He does knees to the corner but Taurus breaks up the pin. Taurus shoulder blocks Vikingo and sends him flying. Laredo Kid and Vikingo go for springboard attacks but get pulled out of the ring. Evans then hits an asai moonsault on everyone. They fight on the stage and throw Taurus and Evans off and do dives. Vikingo then does a Spanish Fly on Suicide off the stage on to the rest of them. Evans and Kid are back in the ring. Evans slams him and goes to the top but gets kicked. Laredo Kid hits the Laredo Fly for the win. Laredo Kid pins Jack Evans with the Laredo Fly.

Winners: Laredo Kid, Hijo Del Vikingo, and Myzteziz Jr

(NOAH) WEEKLY NEWSLETTER VOL.13 ~ 7TH DECEMBER 2018

With a vacant Heavyweight Tag Title to figure out, and some finishing touches leading up to Great Voyage in Yokohama Vol.2, let’s see what Hisame brings us this week!

NEWS

EASTERN HEROES
Most of the roster (except for Naomichi Marufuji, who, much to his disappointment, couldn’t go due to injury, and says he has never been) went to China to participate in “Eastern Hero Wrestling”.

Despite the fact that they had broken up a few days beforehand at “Global League 2018”, Katsuhiko Nakajima and Masa Kitamiya teamed up. Nakajima’s only comment was that this was how the card had been arranged, and he walked off at the end of the match leaving Kitamiya behind.

It was a sold out over capacity crowd in Tianjin, and the crowd said in Japanese “please come back”.

Hi69, in particular, said he learned a lot of things from the trip. There were also some new athletes o the card which hadn’t been introduced to NOAH yet, Tiger God and Dragon God.

Article with results can be read here

IPW
Daisuke Harada has been announced for IPW’S Junior Heavyweight Championship Tournament on Tuesday 16th January 2019 at Milton Keynes.

For those unfamiliar with him, a small guide can be found here.

Tickets can be purchased here

Further names hopefully to be announced (I know YO-HEY & HAYATA are being hoped for)

CURRENT TOUR RECAP
Noah kicked off “Winter Navigation 2018” at Korakuen Hall, not a great attendance for the first night, but it needs to be factored in that it was a 6.30pm start on a Friday night, round about the time when people get out of work, plus there was a big event going on at the nearby Tokyo Dome.

There were two match signings, with Takashi Sugiura saying that he was not going to lose the belt or the era to “this young man” (Kaito Kiyomiya) and Kotaro Suzuki actually turned up for his with Daisuke Harada.

Kimiya Okada made his long overdue debut, and was beaten by fellow rookie, Yoshiki Inamura. Hajime Ohara (who had helped train Okada for the debut) looked on. Although Inamura picked up his first win, it should be noted that this is only a small one, and against a very green rookie. They will have a rematch on the 9th (check)

Both Atsushi Kotoge and Hitoshi Yamato were on top comedy form.

Hitoshi Kumano and Seiya Morohashi squared up as their grudge deepened.

The Hooligans announced the 5’10 and 243 lb Yuji Hino as their new member, and he picked up the 5’10 Akitoshi Saito and slammed him as if he weighed nothing.

YO-HEY defeated Shoki Kitamura with the Super Face G, and then said to SUGI that he wanted to continue this, but SUGI said that Yokohama was impossible as there was an ZERO-ONE show on the 16th. So, it looks like the New Year will be the resumption of it.

Go Shiozaki and Katsuhiko Nakajima defeated Kenoh and Masa Kitamiya for the vacant GHC Heavyweight tag team titles, and were later challenged by Yuji Hino and Maybach Taniguchi.

Then Hino cut the promo of the evening:

“Shiozaki, you are a good looking guy, but your chops mean nothing. Nakajima-kun! Growing up! You are becoming an adult. You look like you’ve graduated from being a virgin”.

This is the kind of trash talking which is sadly missing from NOAH.

Kaito Kiyomiya and Daisuke Harada teamed up to take on Takashi Sugiura and Kotaro Suzuki. The ref stopped the match when Sugiura got Kiyomiya in a Olympic slam into a chokehold, afterwards Sugiura stood over the fallen Kiyomiya and told him that “on the 16th, I will show you the difference between NOAH’s future and the man who has supported NOAH for eighteen years”.

Detailed event recap can be read here

GHC BELT NEWS
