As has been noted, Ring Of Honor was in Las Vegas, Nevada last night, its second straight night at the Orleans Arena, for a set of television tapings.
Among the matches on the card, Punishment Martinez defended the ROH World Television Title against Jeff Cobb, a match that saw the crowning of a new champion. This ended Martinez’s title reign at roughly three and a half months after he defeated Silas Young for the championship back on June 16th. It was a bit of an unexpected change for some fans, however today there is news on why the switch was made.
According to PWInsider, Punishment Martinez is officially finished with Ring Of Honor as his contract with the promotion just before All In back on September 1st. The 6-6, 14-year veteran has been with ROH since 2015, first arriving under his real name, Luis Martinez. As for his future, PWInsider has also confirmed via sources within WWE that the company is interested in bringing him in and has been looking to bring him in for the NXT brand for some time now.
Of course, Martinez heading to WWE has yet to be confirmed, however appears to be the most likely landing spot for the big man at this time.
