More Reports Of John Cena Skipping Crown Jewel, Event Back In Jeopardy

Earlier today we noted that there were multiple reports of WWE Superstar John Cena informing the company he would not work their upcoming Crown Jewel event, taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia next Friday due to the ongoing controversy surrounding the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi (check out the story here).

It was said that Cena and Daniel Bryan are “refusing” to work the show, meanwhile WWE’s creative team was reportedly informed that Cena would need to be replaced as he’s set to take part in the World Cup tournament. In additional to this, Dave Meltzer has noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the event itself is in jeopardy once again as the company faces outside pressure to cancel or move Crown Jewel.

EA’s Take: Great choice of wording in the first tweet there because this is for sure a mess. A dumpster fire, actually. The problem with this whole thing is WWE is just in such a tough position because there’s a deal in place. Had it not been for that, I firmly believe this show would have been moved or cancelled altogether already. Unfortunately, there are millions of dollars on the line for the company and no matter how much any fan complains, no business is going to choose losing millions of dollars unless they have to. No matter what happens, WWE needs to make a decision and fast.
