Tickets for WWE’s Crown Jewel went finally went on sale today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and subsequently sold out the 25,000 seat King Saud University Stadium. However, it remains to be seen what will happen after both Daniel Bryan and John Cena reportedly have refused to go (see that story here).
While it’s also been reported that the WWE creative team was informed of Cena’s decision this past Monday prior to RAW, the company has continued to promote him for the upcoming World Cup tournament. The belief at the time was that the event was in jeopardy once again (check that out here) and could be moved to a different location, meaning Cena would still participate.
Now after the company confirmed the location is not changing yesterday (find that here), it was reported that a replacement for Cena at Crown Jewel was already waiting in the wings, yet it wasn’t known who that could be. Today, the WrestleVotes Twitter account (which has broken stories in the past) is reporting that Bobby Lashley is likely the one to take Cena’s spot:
I know injury concerns have been making the rounds, but I’m hearing Bobby Lashley is John Cena’s replacement in the World Cup at #WWECrownJewel

EA’s Take: Lashley was actually the first one that came into my mind when I heard there was a replacement ready. With Cena representing the RAW brand in the World Cup, it had to be a red brand Superstar to take his place and I couldn’t really think of anybody available that would have fit that spot more right now than Lashley. I suppose you could have put Ambrose in there, but he already lost a Qualifier so that wouldn’t make much sense. What will be more interesting to me is how they go about announcing Cena’s out of Crown Jewel since everyone knows what’s up.
