In case you missed it, this morning it has reportedly been confirmed that WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan will not be competing at Crown Jewel this Friday in his scheduled match for the WWE Championship against AJ Styles (read that here).
While WWE had plans in place for Bryan vs. Styles to still take place in a pre-taped match at the Performance Center, the idea has now been dropped and with the company still promoting the match for Crown Jewel, it remains to be seen what steps WWE will take to explain Daniel’s absence. However, it does appear as if there will still be a WWE Championship Match, but with a replacement challenger.
PWInsider has added that should the company decide to pull the trigger on simply replacing Bryan, one name being discussed has been ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev. Currently, Rusev is not scheduled for Crown Jewel and his rivalry with Aiden English appears to have run its course now, meaning that he is free and clear to be utilized. Rusev had been outspoken on Twitter recently about how the World Cup only included Americans, seemingly lobbying for a spot on the show. Previously, ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ unsuccessfully challenged AJ Styles for the WWE Title back at Extreme Rules in July.
EA’s Take: There are plenty of options if WWE wants to replace Bryan that could work. Definitely Rusev for one, but you’ve also got the United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura with nothing to do. Although, that was the WWE Title Match at Greatest Royal Rumble, but so what? I think that even though he’ll be in The Bar’s corner for the SmackDown Tag Title match, Big Show is also an option as well. You could also pull someone from RAW too if need be. The real question to me is, how do they explain Bryan’s absence?
