WWE News: SmackDown Live Audience Drops, Falls To Second In 18-49 Ranks (11/20/18)

SmackDown Live
A look at the ratings for last night’s episode of WWE SmackDown Live!

This week’s post-Survivor Series edition of Monday Night RAW surprisingly was able to not only keep its share of the 18-49 demographic this week up against a huge Monday Night Football match-up, but also increase its rating from last week slightly (check that out here). With SmackDown Live facing no NFL competition, could the blue brand keep their numbers?

The ratings for last night’s episode of the blue brand are in and unfortunately, there was a big drop from last week with an overall rating of 2.150, a decrease of of 7.36%. Here are the last four weeks worth of ratings for SmackDown Live:

  • October 30th: 2.110
  • November 6th: 2.088
  • November 13th: 2.312
  • November 20th: 2.150

With regards to this week’s Cable Top 150 Rankings in the 18-49 demographic, it’s another significant downturn from last week’s 0.80 share, as last night’s edition of SmackDown Live only brings in a 0.69, dropping it out of its usual number one spot. Here is this week’s top five programs:

  1. College Basketball (8PM) – ESPN – 0.79
  2. SmackDown Live – USA Network – 0.69
  3. The Curse Of Oak Island – History – 0.68
  4. College Basketball Scoreboard – ESPN – 0.67
  5. Below Deck – Bravo – 0.53

EA’s Take: Full disclosure here, but I don’t follow college hoops enough to know what was on last night that it beat out SmackDown Live. Also, the Cable Top 150 Rankings don’t tell you who was playing, just the title of the program. Also, I think the NCAA may be the most crooked organization in the country, so don’t give me any grief for not giving a damn about college sports. Regardless, last week’s SmackDown Live was a huge episode as it not only was the final one before Survivor Series, but fans also wanted to see what was going to go down with Becky Lynch after her appearance on RAW. Plus, word of something big going down had begun spreading and that’s exactly what we got with Daniel Bryan winning the WWE Title and turning heel. SmackDown Live is much more consistent on a weekly basis in the ratings and rankings than RAW due to the competition on Monday nights, so this big decrease doesn’t have me worried in the least.

Did your picks win points?

The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!

Here are your Gold League standings!

  • Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
  • Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
  • Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
  • Rush: 0-1, 0 points
  • Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
  • Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points

Here are your Blue League standings!

  • Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
  • Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
  • Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
  • Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
  • Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
  • Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete

My Thoughts:

Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.

Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.

In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
