Christian is the guest on a new Prime Time with Sean Mooney!

A new week brings another great episode of Prime Time with Sean Mooney, as this week’s guest is none other than multi-time WWE World Champion Christian (check out a very interesting edition of Prime Time with Sean Mooney with WWE Hall Of Famer Wendi Richter).

Fans of WWE Network and more specifically, The Edge and Christian Show That Totally Reeks Of Awesomeness, have been quite pleased with season two, which is only a few episodes in. They also were treated to some returns from season one, including Sean Mooney, for an episode this season that has been highly praised, a parody of ‘The Goonies’ called ‘The Moonies’.

Christian would discuss the episode:

“We obviously had you [Sean Mooney] on the first season, had a ton of fun and we [Edge and Christian] knew after that like…I mean you got what the show was right away and you know it seemed like, I don’t want to speak for you, but it felt like you had a blast and we all had this chemistry and we had a lot of fun. So we were sitting down to write the second season…we’re like, ‘We need to do something with Mooney again ’cause it was too much fun’, and that’s when we kinda came up with the whole concept of ‘The Moonies’ and you know with, you know…you gave that funny line about not having any pants [in season one] and then of course Gene [Okerlund] saying, ‘Holy balls’. So we kind of thought we’d do like a…like a throwback, you know, reminding people that you know, you still didn’t have your pants and we do a search for your pants and you know…and it was what it was, but I mean…the second season we really had time to sit down.”

Christian continued:

“We wrote the entire show before we even started any production on it and you know, we knew what the show was going into the second season so, whereas the first season took us a few episodes to kinda get the traction, get the feel for what the show was and they [WWE] said people seem to really enjoy it and you know, they let us push the envelope a little bit and…you know, it’s a show that’s strictly for wrestling fans. It’s written for wrestling fans and it’s a variety show with a wrestling theme, that’s what it is and you know, it’s just been a lot of fun to be a part of that process and learn a different side of entertainment.”

What a start to the tournament!

Did your picks win points?

The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!

Here are your Gold League standings!

  • Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
  • Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
  • Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
  • Rush: 0-1, 0 points
  • Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
  • Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points

Here are your Blue League standings!

  • Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
  • Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
  • Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
  • Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
  • Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
  • Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete

My Thoughts:

Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.

Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.

In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
