An interesting bit of news is making its way around the Internet this morning involving The Lunatic Fringe Dean Ambrose. According to Wade Keller of the Pro Wrestling Torch is reporting that Ambrose is set to leave WWE in April when his contract expires.
Reportedly, Ambrose gave his notice to Vince McMahon in person this past weekend. Ambrose was offered a new contract with a pay increase a few weeks back, but turned it down. Sources state that Ambrose is upset with the creative direction his character has taken, and doesn’t care for some of the hokey antics or story lines his character has been involved in most recently.
Ambrose did lose cleanly to Seth Rollins on Raw, and was thrown out by NXT’s Aleister Black at the Royal Rumble. Keller went on to state that Ambrose is expected to be finished with the company after WrestleMania.
The contract that Ambrose turned down was reportedly a five year deal in the seven figure range.
I take the report with a grain of salt. It is a long way between now and April, and things could change very quickly. I can understand Ambrose being upset, as his time as WWE Champion seems like it was such a long time ago. However, many have said that Ambrose leads a modest lifestyle and does not need the money. I doubt that he would make the jump to All Elite Wrestling, and will most likely stay with the WWE. If he does leave, you have to wonder what the status will be of his the status of his wife Renee Young.
