Reported Details On WWE’s Pursuit Of The Young Bucks & Hangman Page

Young Bucks All In
The reported details on negotiations between WWE, Young Bucks & more!

If you are a WWE fan and were hoping to see the company sign any members of The Elite, whether that be Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Hangman Page or Kenny Omega, then the launch of All Elite Wrestling may be seen as a disappointment to you.

While some fans have likened their favorites not going to WWE to the career of WWE Hall Of Famer Sting (by not signing with the company during his prime), those same fans can’t really fault the company for lack of effort. We’ve heard multiple times now how WWE strongly pursued all members of The Elite and we may have some more specifics on what the company was offering.

According to Dave Meltzer in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s dealings with all of The Elite were done exclusively by Triple H and as it pertains to The Young Bucks, they were being offered money that was similar to AJ Styles’ contract. Additionally, it’s being said WWE also was looking to make Being The Elite a weekly show on the WWE Network and a special clause in their deal where The Jacksons could get out of the three-year contract within the first six months if they weren’t pleased with the relationship, something that the company has reportedly never offered.

On top of that, Meltzer also notes that WWE would have debuted The Young Bucks at the Royal Rumble this month with a “significant storyline” on the way to WrestleMania 35. It’s being said that despite not signing with WWE, The Jacksons walked away from the discussions and “heavily praised” Triple H, who also reportedly took recent parodies of himself on Being The Elite “well”.

Lastly, with regards to Hangman Page, Meltzer reports that he was also made a strong offer which would have seen him making “main roster money to work NXT”.

EA’s Take: Moving forward, I think people are going to make their own judgments on anything related to AEW when it comes from Dave Meltzer or even Ryan Satin for that matter. We always want our readers to do that anyways, but “Always Use Your Head” really needs to apply more so with these things. It’s quite apparent that Meltzer, Satin and who knows who else is working with AEW in some form or fashion. Honestly, it’s brilliant marketing by AEW. It just means we need to use caution with stuff like this. I’m sure there’s probably truth and fiction to it to some degree.

What a start to the tournament!

Did your picks win points?

The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!

Here are your Gold League standings!

  • Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
  • Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
  • Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
  • Rush: 0-1, 0 points
  • Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
  • Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points

Here are your Blue League standings!

  • Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
  • Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
  • Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
  • Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
  • Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
  • Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete

My Thoughts:

Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.

Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.

In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
