There’s some fun imagery in this title with Daniel Bryan and stale. Can hemp save some of the souring opinion? Let’s see what Carol thinks.
There’s no denying that Daniel Bryan is one of WWE’s popular stars. The wrestler became a huge fan favorite when he was an underdog going against The Authority for a shot at the WWE Championship. When a series of injuries forced Bryan to retire from wrestling, he never gave up on his dream of one day stepping back inside the squared circle.
When Bryan was cleared to wrestle it was an iconic moment in WWE history, and fans were more ecstatic when Bryan once again won the WWE Championship again. However, his win also signified a character change.
The humble underdog that fans grew to love had turned into an evil heel, whose main gimmick was preaching about how people are destroying the environment.
Fans ate up the gimmick as Bryan delivered promos criticizing the crowds for destroying the environment by driving gas guzzling cars or eating meat knowing that an animal had to sacrifice their lives for the meal. Anyone who’s followed Daniel Bryan’s career knows that in real life he leads a hippie lifestyle. He’s a vegan and lives a frugal life with his wife Brie. So it’s not surprising WWE incorporated his real life beliefs into his heel turn.
Daniel Bryan has done a great job with his new heel turn by getting the crowds to boo him. There’s no denying he’s back at the top of his game.
However, I can’t help but question if his heel gimmick will eventually become stale.
Recently, WWE decided to partner Erick Rowan with Daniel Bryan, and it seems like they’re creating a new stable for the WWE Champion. Aside from his new partner, Bryan also made a change to the WWE title, when he introduced a new eco-friendly belt. While the new belt and Erick Rowan help add to Bryan’s character and the fans are loving every minute of it, I can’t help but feel that the excitement over Daniel’s gimmick is going to be waning.
I’ll admit I had mixed feelings about Bryan’s gimmick, but I was willing to give it a chance. He cut decent promos and came off as an arrogant, self righteous heel, who thought he was better than everyone else.
Yet, within the last couple of weeks, I’ve found myself becoming bored with Daniel’s gimmick. Some of the segments are over the top and the promos seem repetitive.
While Daniel’s heel environmentalist act has been a huge part of his WWE Championship run, I don’t think it’ll be enough to keep him at the top of the main event picture. With stars like Mustafa Ali on the rise, it’s only a matter of time before Daniel Bryan loses the championship.
Then the question is what becomes of his heel gimmick.
Does he continue with his role as a self-righteous environmentalist or does WWE decide to switch things up with the star?
Personally, I feel that it’s getting to the point where WWE may want to change Bryan’s character. If they keep it for too long, it may become tiring and fans will lose interest in Daniel Bryan.
