It’s the WWE Fastlane Kickoff Show!
Join Johnathan Coachman, Beth Phoenix, David Otunga and Sam Roberts in previewing the action for tonight’s final stop before Wrestlemania!
The IIconics join the panel.
Billie Kay & Peyton Royce play dumb as to knowing Sasha Banks & Bayley are in town. It’s because they haven’t seen the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions on SmackDown yet. They have a good point, but then are they out here to call them out? But what happens if Nia Jax & Tamina win? The IIconics aren’t going to ask nor answer that question. Quiet, Sam. But the IIconics are the future, and the future is IIconic! Strike the pose! Then will the IIconics give a prediction on this first title defense? Billie consults with Peyton, and they go with Boss & Hug Connection. Coach thinks that’s in their best interest considering Nia- What’s that? What’s that, Coach? Look Billie in the eyes and say that again. “Thank you.” “You’re welcome.” Will the inaugural champions stay the champions? Or will the Samoan Dynasty have gold this close to Wrestlemania?
Backstage interview with Fire & Desire.
Mandy Rose prepares for her title match with Asuka. She won thanks to a fake eye injury, and Asuka got her back for it. Does Mandy think tonight is a long shot? Well Asuka had to attack them from behind, so she must be desperate. Asuka is the one with a long shot chance to win. Sonya says Mandy is strategic, focused, and has the mental edge. But EC3 comes along. “Mannnndy.” Oh wow, he speaks. He does a lot of things, except forgetting to introduce himself. EC3 is between brands, and he’s a bit of a hot commodity. Something these two know a lot about.
Oh so the first thing EC3 says is this? There’s more where that came from. Well Mandy’s not on Earth to flirt with a human tanning bed. She has more important things to focus on. Sonya and EC3 click at each other before EC3 leaves. Will the Top One Percent pursue SmackDown as his main roster home?
Carmella petitions for R-Truth’s United States Championship rematch.
The Fabulous Princess gets signatures, but Zelina Vega has advice for Carmella. Truth lost but Carmella has a clipboard like they’re somebodies. Unlike John Cena, Truth should give up. Because El Idolo will finish Rey Mysterio and move on to the title. Oh but didn’t Samoa Joe pin Almas in that Fatal 4 Way? Samoa Joe himself comes by and before this escalates, he’ll make this clear: he is the champion. And Joe will continue to be champion. If Truth, Mysterio or Almas have a problem, then just come see him. He’ll be more than happy to put their problems to sleep. And he even signs the petition. Tonight, everyone gets what they want: It’s a FATAL 4 WAY REMATCH for the title!!
Christian joins the panel!
He jokes around with Sam and Otunga, but he also has some matches to talk about. The Miz gets to be in his hometown of Cleveland, does Christian think that’ll help? It might be more of a distraction. If you want to know why Miz is so annoying, just look to Papa Miz. Give Papa Miz a luxury box seat, not one ringside! But Miz is approaching 40, why is he still looking for his father’s approval? The Usos are laser focused, but why is Miz worrying about his daddy issues? Christian knows about tag title reigns, it’s about chemistry. Usos have chemistry from the womb while Miz and Shane are kinda forced. And Christian never had to go for dad’s approval. Does this spell doom for the would-be Best Tag Team in the World?
Aleister Black & Ricochet speak.
“Our lives are defined by moments.” Ricochet will never forget falling in love with high-flying. Or the moment that he was going to the WWE. And now he’ll create a new moment in his WWE PPV debut. As a kid from Kentucky, Ricochet has always wanted to be a WWE champion, and he’ll make that dream come true. Aleister reminds us that “People fear the unknown.” With each of their victories, they put fear in the hearts of their opponents. This isn’t about the past, this is about destiny choosing them to win the Raw Tag Team Championships. One flies, one strikes, and all the rest will #FadetoBlack. Will this air strike of destiny hit its mark in the Triple Threat?
AJ Styles joins the panel.
The Phenomenal One speaks on the “mistake” of replacing Kofi Kingston in tonight’s WWE Championship. Kofi went through four other competitors just to get this close to the title and it was all taken away by a whim. As for Kevin Owens, Styles agrees that Bryan needs his mouth shut, but it should’ve been by Kofi. Kofi’s probably got the best chance of stopping Bryan. The Road to Wrestlemania is in the home stretch, and Styles knows what it takes to get to the end. Bryan has been doing this a long time and is going to another level. Bryan has Rowan as a back-up but Kevin will surely think outside the box. But what about Styles’ own fall? He’s gone from champion to contender to commentator. Well you can’t always be the top guy, but Styles will bide his time.
Then what about Randy Orton always having a retort? Orton’s a bully and he’s just trying to pester Styles into reacting. Christian knows Orton can get in your head without even trying. But Styles is confident, he’ll deal with Orton when the time comes.
Backstage interview with Kevin Owens.
The Prizefighter made a surprising return and now has a title match. With all the controversy, has he been able to focus? The controversy is all Vince McMahon’s thing, go ask him. Kevin still agrees, Kofi earned his shot but Kevin’s not going to refuse his own. This is to make life better for him and his family. Plus, Kevin just can’t stand Bryan talking down to the WWE Universe anymore. All the fans have wanted to punch Bryan so Kevin will do that for us! But then in come the New Day. Kofi just wants to say he has no problem with Kevin. This is Kevin’s shot, so good luck. Kevin appreciates that, and shakes Kofi’s hand. And good luck in the tag match. Speaking of, that’s up next!
But wait, the McMahons want to speak with Kofi in regards to a WWE Championship match?! Big E and Xavier Woods are excited for Kofi, but is this what we’re all thinking?!

They all follow roads. Some to glory, some to pain. But all roads lead home. The Big Dog overcame a true fight for his life, but now he wants it #OneLastTime. The Shield reunites, but will they be back on top? Vince McMahon tried to deny The Man, but will Straight Fire head straight for Mania? And Vince McMahon did very much the same to Kofi Kingston, but will that come back to bite the Planet’s Champion? There are tag titles a plenty, but who is taking them all the way to the goal? Kofi just suffered the same fate as that moron, The Miz.” They all looked like some Cleveland Cavaliers: A bunch of beat up losers, just like the fans here. Can we finally put this Kofi talk to rest? And just admit to yourself that the Pittsburgh Steelers are the best. This ends Elias’ second session, will he try to go for a third?

Charlotte Flair VS Becky Lynch!
This is not the first time The Queen and The Man have fought each other, and it surely won’t be the last. But this is the most important time these two have faced each other. Becky won the Women’s Royal Rumble, but Vince McMahon took that right from her. Becky raised Hell to get what she deserves, but got suspended and arrested. But now she has one last chance to make it to Wrestlemania. All she has to do is win, and the Raw Women’s Championship match with Ronda Rousey goes from 1v1 to a Triple Threat! Can the Lass Kicker overcome the stacked deck to take back what’s rightfully hers?
Charlotte mocks Becky hobbling out to the ring with the crutch. She offers to help Becky into the ring but Becky refuses. Winner: Becky Lynch, by disqualification; joins the Raw Women’s Championship match at Wrestlemania
The Baddest Woman actually helps out Becky Lynch, because that’s the fight she’s wanted all along. The Queen is furious, but The Man’s actually okay with that. Ronda points at the Wrestlemania sign, and all three will meet again. Who comes away with the title after such a star-studded match?
Ladies and Gentlemen, Elias, yet again.
The Drifter does come out for a third time, but fans aren’t so sure they want to see him right now. Elias still plays his guitar and sings. “Becky Lynch won, so I guess that makes her The Man. Everyone seems to love her, but honestly I’m not a fan.” Becky’s 15 minutes are almost up, and he’ll be glad to see them go. She’s so destined for failure, it’s surprising she wasn’t born in Ohio. Elias says it’s time for the main event, and the reunion of The Shield. But honestly, Elias has no faith in them, like every time the Browns take the field.
Elias finishes, but takes offense at the boos. But he’s just happy he never got interrupted once tonight. The reason for that is obvious: everyone agrees that Cleveland is the worst city to go to this close to Wrestlemania. This is his final performance, good night, and he loves none of you. But then, Lacey Evans makes her presence known! The Sassy Southern Belle struts down the ramp like always, then struts back up. Because Randy Orton gets Elias!! The Viper will strike any time, anywhere! But AJ Styles hits a Phenomenal Forearm on Orton! Styles found the time and place to deal with Orton, and took him down! Are these two through with each other? Or are they going to have more to say at Wrestlemania?

Will Roman make an even bigger comeback in the months to follow? Will Rollins #SlayTheBeast? All we know is, the Shield is together with one last fist bump.
Well this was a rather wild Fastlane. Oddly enough, we don’t get two Kickoff matches because one becomes a main show match. It was for the best that Mysterio VS Almas didn’t happen in the Kickoff, their feud needs proper spotlight for a blow-off. Then the WWE United States Championship Fatal 4 Way rematch was amazing, and it’s natural for Samoa Joe to retain. I’m still hoping Joe VS Cena happens at Mania, those two never got to have their program because of Joe injured his foot at that time. The New Day VS Nakamura & Rusev was surprisingly good for a Kickoff match, and I’m hoping for a rematch down the line. In fact, it sounds like there might be tie-in to Kofi’s story to Wrestlemania, since Nakamura & Rusev attacked The New Day while Kofi was put in that Handicap Match.
In kayfabe, Kofi Kingston got done dirty by Vince McMahon using semantics to trick him. There is now heat on The Bar, Nakamura & Rusev as well as Vince. But in reality, we know this is just saving Kofi for the world title at Wrestlemania. And in both, this benefits Mustafa Ali, because he finally gets to shine in a world title match. The Triple Threat we got was great, Ali was incredible. But naturally, Bryan finds a way to win to also keep things goings towards Bryan VS Kofi. This story is taking a great dynamic. Bryan claims to be a “new” Daniel Bryan, when really, it’s Kofi. And by that, I mean the guy who fans love but the company “doesn’t”, and so the company does whatever they can to make Kofi miserable. And just like Bryan did at WM30, Kofi will overcome and be the champion.
The SmackDown Tag Team Championships match was great, but the one part I didn’t see coming was Shane turning on Miz! Though, Miz couldn’t really turn in his hometown. Keeping Miz the Face is a great move, and surely means Miz will win their grudge match at Mania. The SmackDown Women’s Championship match was only okay, but the twist of Sonya’s cheating screwing Mandy was a good move. There’s new tension between them, and then throw in EC3’s strange flirting, there might be something that could actually be interesting for Fire & Desire heading for Mania. The Raw Tag Team Championships match was also great, but I got scared when Ricochet and Dawson did that Super Steiner onto the group. It almost didn’t work out. I knew the Revival would retain, but I’m thinking the Dusty Rhodes Tag Classic should be Aleister’s & Ricochet’s focus (in kayfabe).
The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match was good but also kinda short. Bayley & Banks win to stay strong, because there’s still SmackDown and NXT to compete on. Nia and Tamina going after Beth Phoenix and bringing out Natty means at least a women’s tag grudge match of Samoan Dynasty VS Natty & Beth. At most, it means Natty & Beth are the “legends” team in the possible multi-team match for the titles. The IIconics are surely the SmackDown team, and who knows how they’ll handle NXT being in on these belts. I’m just hoping that if it’s any team, is The Sky Pirates. But the prospect of Beth getting #OneLastMatch is rather interesting. Better than how WWE handled the finish to Flair VS Lynch tonight.
How is Becky supposed to feel like a conquering underdog if Ronda basically hands her a spot in the match? Or is a promo going to explain that’s to counter Charlotte being handed her spot in this? I can see Ronda wanting to ensure she gets the match we were supposed to get at Survivor Series, but this didn’t seem like the right way to do it. Ronda also isn’t helping this build with her “Wrestling is scripted” VLOG, but that’s a whole separate can of worms. Also, if they’d kept Ronda out of this, this could’ve been a great main event with a triumphant Becky rather than a weirdly grateful Becky.
But in the context that this is how they went about it, The Shield main event actually worked out. It was nostalgic, it was over the top, and it was a palette cleanser for the funk that the Flair-Lynch-Rousey mess left. Shield wins, naturally, and we close with the Shield Fist Bump here so that Wrestlemania can be about A) Rollins alone conquering The Beast and B) have THE main event be the Raw Women’s Championship, where we finally get Becky Lynch’s triumphant moment.
My Score: 7.9/10

The Cruiserweight Division broke through!
For months, the WWE’s purple belt was on the Kickoff Show, but no longer! Tony Nese had his title defense against Ariya Daivari on Money in the Bank’s main card! And while Daivari Dinero was so confident he’d hit the jackpot that he drove into the arena in a Mercedes Benz, he could not bring down the Premier Athlete! Nese’s reign continues on, but who will be next up to test his toughness?
THE Brian Kendrick and Akira Tozawa meet backstage.
They’re both involved in tonight’s major main event with huge Cruiserweight title implications. They’re good friends, and shake hands to make sure they both know it won’t be personal out there. But will things get intense between them and the rest of the field knowing it could mean a shot at Nese?
The Singh Brothers VS Lucha House Party!
Sunil & Samir return to show that one loss in the Cruiserweight Division won’t slow them down on their rise to the top! They pick up some mics to say, “Ladies and gentlemen, it’s Bollywood Time~!” Because it’s definitely NOT Lucha Time. Why’s that? Because Lars Sullivan absolutely destroyed the three amigos at MITB, and then again on Raw. Actually, a little birdie told them that LHP wanted to fight him, so they won’t be fighting the Bollywood Boyz. So not to disappoint the fans, or the 1.6 BILLION people in India, the ref will count to 10 and let the Singh Brothers win by forfeit!
But wait, 205 Live GM Drake Maverick appears! And he tells the Singhs that while they’re right about LHP not being here, they’re still going to have competition! Providence likes the sound of that. Maverick found suitable replacements in… Jack Gallagher and Humberto Carrillo! Will Bollywood Time stand up to this extraordinary duo?
The Singh Brothers VS Jack Gallagher & Humberto Carrillo!
Samir & Sunil cry conspiracy, but they’re clearly just upset they still have to compete, and against superstars they didn’t expect. They still get in the ring, and Sunil starts against Carrillo. The bell rings and Sunil “rolls film” before he ties up with Carrillo. Sunil headlocks but Carrillo powers out. Sunil runs him over and celebrates, but Carrillo kips right up and scares him! The ref keeps Carrillo back while Sunil gets to a corner. Sunil goes to Samir for a comforting hug, and then circles with Carrillo. They tie up and Carrillo gets a waistlock. Gallagher applauds as Carrillo goes after Sunil. Carrillo whips while Gallagher tags in, but Sunil reverses. Carrillo springboard headbutts Sunil down! Gallagher covers, ONE! Gallagher keeps on Sunil with a standing armlock, and he tortures the fingers! Sunil endures and fights his way up. He knees low and Samir applauds. Sunil whips Gallagher to a corner, but Gallagher brings back the headstand! Gallagher goes up and over Sunil then speeds up to slide under and trip Sunil. He wraps Sunil up in Gentlemen’s Paradise! And sits on him! Gallagher tags Carrillo before stomping Sunil out of paradise. Carrillo has Gallagher’s help for the flying arm-drag! He snapmares to a cover, TWO! Carrillo headlocks but Sunil powers out while Samir tags in.
Carrillo speeds up with Sunil, but manages to see Samir coming. He clotheslines Samir but Sunil knees Carrillo down. Samir returns and the brothers stomp a Bollywood mudhole! Samir shoves and dropkicks Carrillo down! Cover, TWO! Samir keeps his cool as he drags Carrillo over. Tag to Sunil, and film rolls as Sunil drops ax handles on Carrillo’s ribs.
Sunil snapmares and drops elbows on Carrillo, then gets a bit too Bollywood, Carrillo rolls him up! TWO, and Sunil keeps Carrillo away from Gallagher. Samir tags in and the brothers mug Carrillo. Samir scrapes his laces on Carrillo’s face, then throws haymakers. He punches Carrillo to the corner then whips corner to corner. Carrillo reverses and Samir hits buckles hard! Samir crawls after Carrillo, but Carrillo gets away to hot tag Gallagher! Gallagher rallies on Samir with big clotheslines and furious fists! He whips but Samir reverses, only for Gallagher to duck and ROCK him with a right! Sunil gets in but gets punched back out! Gallagher lifts Samir and suplex, then holds him there! No less than a count of 15 before Gallagher drops him! Cover, TWO!
Gallagher keeps his cool as he turns Samir over for a Half Crab! Samir endures and reaches, tag to Sunil! Gallagher doesn’t know, and Sunil clobbers him! Sunil saves his brother and the two SUPERKICK Gallagher down! Cover, but Carrillo breaks it! Samir goes after Carrillo and throws him out. Gallagher throws Samir out, then switches on Sunil to roll up! TWO and a sucker punch! Roll up from Sunil, TWO! Gallagher gets up but gets a heel kick! Cover, TWO!! Gallagher survives three times in a row, but Sunil tags Samir. The Singh Brothers double suplex Gallagher but he slips out! HOt tag to Carrillo! Carrillo roundhouses Samir and Gallagher clobbers Sunil with the Gentleman’s Headbutt! Aztec Press from Carrillo to Samir! Cover, Carrillo & Gallagher win!
Winners: Humberto Carrillo & Jack Gallagher, Carrillo pinning
This new team wins their first match without even much time to prepare! Will this respectful alliance be what climbs to the top instead of the Bollywood Boyz?
Mike & Maria Kanellis speak.
“Tonight, it’s a Fatal 5 Way, with a chance to showcase who the greatest Cruiserweight is on 205 Live. Really?” Has Maverick not been watching? Tozawa and Kanellis beat the crap out of each other in No Disqualifications, and Kanellis won, yet still has to showcase himself? Tonight isn’t about showing anything. Tonight is about destroying the friendship of Tozawa and Kendrick. And Maria promises Mike will prove himself beyond a doubt, so that Maverick can no longer deny him his greatness. Will the Opportunist take advantage of this Fatal 5 opportunity?
Oney Lorcan also speaks.
“Tonight is an opportunity to prove that I deserve a crack at the Cruiserweight Championship.” In his way are not only former champions, but some of the most ruthless superstars 205 Live has to offer. Lorcan’s never one to walk away from a fight, and a Fatal 5 is the kind of fight he likes. Will the Boston Brawler make the most of this massive main event?
Fatal 5 Way: Ariya Daivari VS Oney Lorcan VS Akira Tozawa VS THE Brian Kendrick VS Mike Kanellis w/ Maria!
The Privileged Persian Lion may have fallen short at Money in the Bank, but that doesn’t mean he’s fallen out of the picture. Meanwhile, the Fury of 205 Live is all in on this opportunity. Former Cruiserweight Champions and friends shook on it, but the Opportunist wants to break them apart while breaking through. Who takes pole position towards challenging the Premier Athlete?
Before he makes his entrance, Daivari has a backstage interview. He was impressive even in losing to Tony Nese. How does he plan on rebounding tonight? MITB was a fluke! And now he has to be in this Fatal 5 to prove he’s the top contender? Nese isn’t past Daivari just yet. Will the pissed-off Persian Lion take out all his frustrations on the other four?
The bell rings and while everyone circles, Kendrick and Tozawa stick close. Kanellis sees that and bails out, and then Daivari throws hands with Lorcan! Kendrick and Tozawa go after each of them but they clear out fast. Kanellis runs back in but into Kendrick’s boot! Tozawa lifts Kanellis and drops him with a spinning facebuster! Kanellis bails out again but Daivari comes back, only to run into double kicks from Kendrick and Tozawa. Tozawa and Kendrick double suplex Daivari up and out, but Lorcan returns. The friends double hip toss Lorcan and Lorcan bails out again. Now the friends are alone, so they figure they might as well give it a go. Winner: Akira Tozawa, by pinfall
The Stamina Monster proves he can be just as opportunistic as Kanellis or Daivari! Tozawa celebrates with high-fives from Vic Joseph and Aiden English, but is left hanging by Nigel McGuiness. Will Tozawa celebrate with another Cruiserweight Championship reign? Or will Drake Maverick need more before someone is worthy of a shot?
A pretty great night from 205 Live. We get a new tag team of Carrillo & Gallagher, which I suppose is fine. If we got more teams the first two years of 205 Live, maybe we really would’ve gotten those Cruiserweight Tag Team Championships. But the match itself was great, and Carrillo and Gallagher as a team was good. This gives us more light on the Lucha House Party’s near future, in that they’ll be focusing on Lars Sullivan on Raw and/or SmackDown. But that’s fine, there’s any number of things they can do with Carrillo and Gallagher as a team.
Even though we’re on the road to Stomping Grounds, we might also be on the road to Super Showdown given who won tonight’s Fatal 5 Way. Tozawa was definitely a surprise, but at the same time, it would’ve been boring to go with Daivari. Tozawa is the Stamina Monster for a reason, he can just keep going and going. Plus he’s a great worker, so having him give Nese a strong fight at Super Showdown isn’t all bad. Nese will surely return to the states with the title, and then Stomping Grounds can give us Nese VS Kanellis or Nese VS Lorcan. Probably Kanellis finally breaking through since Nese is a Face. Of course, with Kanellis comes with worrying about Maria, which would be a good challenge for Nese, who has already shown he’s tough enough to outlast even the toughest in the Cruiserweight Division.
My Score: 8.3/10
Mitchell’s WWE SmackDown Live Results & Report! (5/21/19)

PLAY BY PLAY
Shane is backstage on SmackDown.
He finishes up a call as Elias comes in. Elias apologizes for losing to Roman Reigns. He attacked Roman then put all his energy into his performance, but then the fans called him names and such that affected him. As an emotional artist, Elias lost focus and then he got a Superman Punch and Spear. The bell just rings and Elias loses. Shane and the McMahons deserve better. Elias is looking beyond SmackDown, he wants to be at Super Showdown in Shane’s corner. Shane appreciates that but he’s taking Roman on alone at Super Showdown. Even though McIntyre was clearly advertised as Shane’s corner man.
As for tonight’s MITB rematch, Shane will be in Elias’ corner because Elias needs Shane’s help. Elias is grateful for that. The Drifter prepares for The Big Dog, but what will Shane do to help Elias make up for the loss?
It’s a New Day, yes it is!
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods are on stage, and the fans already know what it’s about! “Tonight is a very special night!” Kofi and Woods are happy that after six long, hard, cold weeks, tonight is the return of BIG E!! Without any further ado, but with a blanket over him… Reveal! That’s… Not Big E. That’s barely even Medium E! “Who are you!?” Who who who?! This E has ashy knees that could start a fire! Get out here, Fake E! No, take the drape, then leave. The New Day apologizes. Things never go smoothly when you want them to.
But now, for real, BIG E! Awwww~ Providence! Don’t you dare be sour! Clap for your world famous five-time champs AND WWE Champion, and feel~ the power~! And yes, he’s back! Big E makes a SmackDown return! And the ring is already filled with return party presents and a “Welcome Back, Big E!” banner! Kofi throws pancakes and everyone cheers. Big E needs to smell Woods and Kofi. Underarm please. No, no. Well Big E isn’t medically cleared to compete but he’s cleared to sniff. Big E has missed his friends AND the WWE Universe! And they’ve missed him. Big E’s been crushing it on Twitter, though. But Becky’s mom is taken. But E wants her! Woods knows, she fiiiine!
Kofi gets them back on track, they need to be serious now. World champ, seriousness. Kofi Kingston recaps that we have a #BeastintheBank. Fans boo, no one likes that. But more importantly, Kofi beat Kevin Owens to stay the W, W, E, World, Heavy, Weight, CHAMPION~! Fans do like that. Kofi KO’d KO, but tonight’s not about Kofi. It’s about his brother, Big E, BAYBYYYYY! But then Kevin Owens interrupts! The Prizefighter is in a bad mood but the New Day is upset he’s interrupting the party. But it’s not just him, because here comes Sami Zayn! Sami asks Kevin if he believes this “absolute nonsense.” Big E gets a return party? After six weeks? Sami was gone nine months and got nothing for his return! Big E does realize they should make that up to “Sam,” so they’ll get him what Kevin just got on Sunday: nothing~!
Kevin just up and leaves! Sami, now using his mic and Kevin’s, says this is because of the New Day joking around. The only reason Kevin didn’t win against Kofi is because he was distracted worrying about his best friend, i.e. Sami, who got a backstage beating and stuck upside-down, missing out on being Mr. Money in the Bank. But that doesn’t even matter because this whole celebration is disgusting! It is disgusting how the New Day distracts and placates the people with their cereal, pancakes and hip swiveling, when the fans need to take responsibility for creating a toxic community! Sami rants, but Woods interrupts with his trombone. Fans join in with “New! Day Rocks!”
But Sami says they can yuck it up and have fun while they can. He speaks for Kevin, too, when he says this night won’t end in fun. Sami will beat Kofi in front of everyone, and then Kofi will be lucky to even walk out of here at all! Kofi tells Sami not to be fooled by the fun. When it’s time to throw down, New Day throws down! And not only will Kofi walk out of here, but he’ll walk right through Sami. “BECAUSE~! New! Day Rocks!” Which side puts their money where their mouth is in tonight’s match?
Carmella is backstage on SmackDown, looking for R-Truth.
But Drake Maverick is also looking for him. He gives Carmella a wanted poster but she doesn’t care about that. She asks Apollo Crews if he’s seen Truth, but he hasn’t. Though, Apollo does want to find the current WWE 24/7 Champion, too. Carmella continues searching, and finds a blond- Wait that’s Truth! She hurries him out of the hallway. He has the title belt. If this is his disguise, it won’t work. Everyone’s looking for him! Yeah, he’s been hiding for 24 hours! Luckily he only has 7 more to go. What? 24/7, duh! He just needs to last a little longer and then it’s his for good!
No no, Mick Foley meant the title is defended anytime, anywhere, any place! And this wig won’t help him hide much longer. Hey this wig cost $12. Why is he even on SmackDown, then? Because he needs Mella’s help! Help him, Mella! Okay, okay. Carmella sneaks Truth away, and also takes down Drake’s wanted posters. Will the FABULOUS Princess be able to keep Truth safe to the end of the show? Or perhaps she’ll be tempted by the gold herself?
Mustafa Ali VS Andrade Almas w/ Zelina Vega!
Somehow, someway, the Beacon of Light and El Idolo are still moving after the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder match. Of course, Brock Lesnar screwed Ali over the hardest, can Ali make a comeback to find his own way to the title?
SmackDown returns as Almas and Vega make their entrance. Almas himself is headed for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WWE Super Showdown in a few weeks, will he keep himself strong before challenging Demon Balor?
The bell rings and Almas stares down with Ali. Fans are on Ali’s side as he circles with Almas. They tie up and Almas pulls hair to put Ali in a corner. Almas backs off but misses his chop, and Ali wrenches the wrist. Almas pulls hair again but whips. Ali reverses but Almas goes Tranquilo. Vega joins in but Ali keeps his cool. They speed up and Ali arm-drags Almas out. Almas comes back in but gets a kick! Ali speeds up but runs into a clothesline! Almas covers, TWO! Ali crawls but Almas keeps on him with a wristlock to shoulder breaker. Almas back suplexes but Ali slips out to REVERSE-RANA! Cover, TWO!
Ali keeps his cool but Vega grows worried for Almas. Fans rally up for Ali as he drags Almas up. Almas fights back and powers him to a corner. Ali uppercuts Almas away then hops up. Vega distracts Ali for a moment but Ali still leaps, only for Almas to dropkick him out of the air! El Idolo has control while SmackDown goes picture in picture.
Ali writhes while Almas checks his neck. Almas is fine and goes for a cover, TWO! Almas stomps Ali while getting feeling in his arms. He throws Ali out then pursues. He stomps Ali more then bumps him off the apron. Almas puts ALi back in then drags him up for a draping armbar! The ref counts but Almas lets go at 4 to then stomps Ali down. Ali feeds off the fan rally and fights his way up. Almas shifts his grip but Ali still gets to his feet. Ali fights free but Almas knees low and whips. Ali flapjack dropkicks Almas down! Both men go to opposite ends, and Almas runs in, only for Ali to go up and over. Ali springboards to hit a tornado DDT! Almas bails out but Ali builds speed to DIVE! Ali hits Almas in the back! Vega panics while Ali gets back in the ring and runs again, to FLY! He gets Almas from the front this time! Ali grits his teeth to fight through the pain as fans want “One More Time!”
Ali brings Almas to the ring but his own bad back slows him down. He manages to get himself back in, but Almas blasts Ali back out! Ali’s bad back hits the barriers, and Almas leaves him to the mercy of the ring count. The count passes 5 before Ali sits up, and Ali crawls to the apron. Ali gets in at 8, but Almas is all over him with stomps! Almas suplexes Ali for uno amigo, then dos amigos. He changes up the third for a scoop slam into buckles! Ali slumps out of the ring and Almas wants another count. But when Ali stands, Almas fetches Ali to whip him into barriers! Almas refreshes the count to then CHOP Ali! And scoop him to ram him into the post!
Almas drops Ali only to bring him back up. He tells people to move, to TOSS Ali into the timekeeper’s area! Almas leaves Ali for dead and another ring count begins. Ali crawls but the count passes 5 again. Ali hurries but falls, but still gets in at 9.5! Almas is furious and he takes it out on Ali with stomps. Vega tells him to finish it, so Almas turns Ali over, for CIEN KNEES to the back! Cover, TWO!! Almas can’t believe it! Fans cheer Ali but Almas brings him up. Hammerlock gets a cradle counter! ALI WINS!
Winner: Mustafa Ali, by pinfall
The Beacon of Light snatches victory from El Idolo! Will Ali be able to rest up and be ready for new title opportunities down the line?
Carmella gives Truth a makeover.
“O M G, Truth, you look so fabulous!” R-Truth looks at himself in the mirror. RuPaul would be proud. Is Carmella sure? He feels like something’s missing. Yes, yes, he needs… A bra! A bra? Well, could she help him? He’s never been good at undoing these. Carmella helps him with it, but will this really trick the rest of the SmackDown roster into thinking he’s not Truth?
SmackDown takes another look at Lars Sullivan.
After what the Leviathan did to Lucha House Party at Money in the Bank, you’d think he’d added them to his list of victims. A list of legends that include Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio, both Matt and Jeff Hardy, and even R-Truth. But Kalisto, Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik came back for more on Raw, and together they managed to at least survive an encounter with the Freak. But will he soon hunt them down and leave them laying yet again?
Mandy Rose w/ Sonya Deville VS Carmella w/ R-Truth!
With a new SmackDown Women’s Champion, that means new opportunities. Will the Golden Goddess make up for falling short at Money in the Bank? Or will the FABULOUS Princess climb back towards the title?
SmackDown returns as Carmella makes her entrance with the 24/7 Champion. Wait, doesn’t wearing the belt give away that it’s him? Well, that doesn’t matter, because the bell rings on Fabulous VS Golden Goddess!
Mandy and Sonya can both obviously tell that’s Truth, but Mella tells them to focus on her. Carmella gets a Thesz Press and throws fast hands! Sonya bails Mandy out and Fire & Desire regroup. But the superstars, from the B-Team to Shelton Benjamin to Apollo Crews to 205 Live’s THE Brian Kendrick, and one ref, following after! Jinder Mahal, Noam Dar, Akira Tozawa and possibly Matt Hardy are bringing up the rear as things go backstage via the crowd! Will Truth get away with his belt?
Backstage interview with the NEW SmackDown Women’s Champion, Bayley!
First she wins the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, then cashes in hours later after Charlotte Flair beat Becky Lynch. It was a crazy and brutal night, but obviously Bayley would do it all again in a heartbeat. People still doubted Bayley, so she created her own opportunity so that no one can doubt her again. What should SmackDown know about Bayley the Champ over Bayley the Hugger? That she’s moved past the hugs, and that she dares every woman to bring their best.
SmackDown cameras catch up with Truth and Carmella.
They hurry to hide… in the WOMEN’S locker room!? That’s not gonna work! Truth runs out, but has to keep running from both SmackDown and 205 Live superstars! Sami walks past and is just confused and amused. Sami has his own chance against a champion, after the break!
Elias rehearses in the parking lot.
The Drifter keeps his guitar warm because he’s waiting for Roman to arrive. Will Shane have Elias’ back when The Big Dog enters the Yard?
Kofi Kingston VS Sami Zayn!
Kofimania beat Kevin Owens to show everyone he is a worthy world champion! But while Kevin is a sore loser, Sami is in a good mood. Because apparently Big E is down again! But when you talk, you sound as dumb as the people of Providence.” Roman’s jealous, jealous from the start. Jealous of Elias’ soul and Elias’ heart. It’s time to take the Big Dog for a walk. Roman just shakes his head and continues on. Their MITB rematch is coming, will SmackDown be the same?
Bayley & Becky Lynch VS Charlotte Flair & Lacey Evans!
The Sassy Southern Belle helped The Queen take one belt from The Man, but had no luck getting her own. And Charlotte didn’t have that belt for long, because Ms. Money in the Bank took it with a cash-in! Will the Model Soldier and #CharlotteNineTimes fare better together against #BeckyOneBelt and #BayleyTripleCrown? Or will the combined forces of the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champions be too much for even them?
Before heading out, Becky Lynch has a backstage interview. She had quite the night at MITB with her two matches going on back-to-back. What is her mindset now that she’s down to just one title? Becky doesn’t feel right without the blue belt, but if someone else has to have it without having beat her for it, at least it’s Bayley. Bayley comes by and says that while #BeckyTwoBelts sounded nice, #BayleyTwoBelts sounds even better. Yeah, yeah. But then Bayley saves Becky from Lacey, and Becky saves Bayley from Charlotte. The champs come to an understanding and focus on Charlotte.

SmackDown returns with a backstage interview with Dolph Ziggler.
After being MIA for weeks, he returns to viciously attack Kofi Kingston. But why? That question does deserve an answer, but Ziggler won’t give it here. He’ll give it out there. Ziggler returns to gorilla position and walks out on stage. Obviously fans boo and jeer, and he knows they’re upset. He’d boo himself, too. But this goes way back, to when Mustafa Ali got hurt and Kofi Kingston got his opportunity. Kofi knocked it out of the park, “but it should’ve been me.” Ziggler knows Kofi jumped through hoop after hoop and ran a gauntlet. After 11 long years of earning everything, Kofi was an overnight success, but it should be Ziggler. Kofi walked into Elimination Chamber and walked out the other side a star, but it should’ve been Ziggler!
Then Kofi went to Wrestlemania and fought Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship, while Ziggler was at home! Wrestlemania became Kofimania because he was the better wrestler and man, but it should’ve been Ziggler. Every day since, Kofi has outperformed every single critic and opponent, and he’s been a fighting champion with the respect and admiration of the fans, but it should’ve been Ziggler! So that’s why Ziggler did what he did tonight. “I had to.” So at Super Showdown, Ziggler will beat Kofi for the title because he has to. Ziggler will become WWE Champion, and the fans will have no choice but to respect, admire and love Ziggler!! Because it should’ve been him all along. Is Ziggler going to come back from Super Showdown the world champion out of desperation?
Shane returns on stage.
Becuase he wants to introduce SmackDown’s Greatest Acquisition, Elias. The Drifter appears as he plays his guitar, and Shane O’Mac follows him down the ramp. But the Big Dog is on his way, too! Will this MITB rematch last longer than the original?

Roman picks the guitar up and Shane begs for mercy. Shane crawls to a corner, but here comes Drew McIntyre! CLAYMORE! Shane and McIntyre talk trash on Roman and Shane raises McIntyre’s hand. Roman goes down because Shane has more than one henchman. Will Roman have to have his head on a swivel at Super Showdown?
A great SmackDown to follow up Raw and MITB! Shane’s backstage phone call aside, the main segment of Big E’s return was a great opening. Big E was on point, hasn’t missed a beat. Sami and Kevin had a great part in this, too, from Kevin being grumpy to Sami having the two mics and being extra hyper. Kofi VS Sami was a great match, though I’m surprised that wasn’t he main event. But again, Roman was on the show so… That aside, Ziggler surprising everyone with his attack was a good move for him, and he delivered his “It should’ve been me” jealousy promo, but I’m not sure being jealous and bitter is the way to go. And it is a bit of a shame this isn’t going to be for Extreme Rules but for Super Showdown, because just imagine these two going No Disqualifications with this same motivations.
Ali VS Almas was a great opening match, too! It’s at least some semblance of making it up to Ali by having him win, since he was screwed out in more ways than one at MITB. Even though Demon Balor is not losing at Super Showdown and certainly not to Almas, it would be great if Ali’s win here prompts his own run at the Intercontinental Championship. Though, I do wish WWE wouldn’t give away it would be Demon Balor. Making the Demon a surprise is part of the fun. But I suppose it wouldn’t sell Super Showdown if he didn’t go Demon. The 24/7 Championship being all over the show was great, though I wished Sonya or Mella would try something. But at least now Truth can say he’s the longest reigning 24/7 Champion.
The women’s tag match tonight was really good, and I enjoy the tease that, especially in a Wild Card era, Becky and Bayley want to go belt for belt down the line. Obviously Charlotte and Lacey are far from out of the picture, perhaps both Raw and SmackDown can hold contenders tournaments heading towards Stomping Grounds. It would at least look better if Charlotte and/or Lacey had to earn their matches again instead of it just being automatic. Becky VS Lacey again is fine, but I would hope WWE serves us by having Charlotte lose to either Ember Moon, Mandy or Sonya. Bayley being a new champion should mean new match-ups, so her and any of the others would be great. Save Bayley VS Becky for Summerslam or Survivor Series.
Roman VS Elias and Shane running around obviously made for a better match than MITB’s, but it should’ve been obvious McIntyre would help after the match. Again I say this is Shane unofficially recreating the Mean Street Posse, and I hope this builds towards Survivor Series. But chances are, Super Showdown’s Roman VS Shane match just turns into a stepping stone towards that, which is actually a shame. Though, so much of Super Showdown isn’t really necessary, it is just fanservice to Saudi Arabia, so I suppose it would be par for the course.
My Score: 8.4/10
