News here! The Latest On Bret Hart, A New ROH Champion, Enzo And Cass Together Again and more!

I’ve done my best to not spoil anything that happened at WrestleMania for those who didn’t see the pay per view. If you want a recap of WreslteMania and all it’s happenings, check out Mitchell’s WrestleMania 35 Report HERE.

The Latest On Bret Hart

As many of you saw, Bret Hart was attacked by a fan, Zachary Madsen, during the hall of fame ceremony Saturday evening. Consider this your one stop post for all things that happened during and after the incident.

Here is a video of the attack, and subsequent KO punch by Dash Wilder:

WWE’s statement on the attack:

“An over-exuberant fan surpassed our security at ringside and made his way briefly into the ring. The individual has been turned over to the proper authorities.”

Since the attack, many news outlets have reported that the attacker has stalked wrestlers previously, and has posted cryptic Tweets on his Twitter account. The New York Post has an article discussing previous stalking charges against Madsen. After his speech last night, Hart was taken to a local hospital due to hip discomfort.

Hart appears to be ok, as indicated by a Tweet from the Revival backstage before WrestleMania:

Jason’s Take

I don’t know what I could say that fans and media haven’t already said. But, what an idiot. I have no idea what he was thinking. One has to wonder if this isn’t the last we have seen of the hall of fame stage change.

Matt Taven Wins ROH World Championship

WrestleMania wasn’t the only show this weekend as the NJPW/ROH G1 Supercard was at Madison Square Garden Saturday night. The ROH World Championship was defended in a three-way ladder match between champion Jay Lethal and challengers Marty Scrull and Matt Taven. Taven would walk away from the match as ROH Champion.

Jason’s Take:

What a match! Many fans were discussing they Johnny Gargano and Adam Cole match from Takeover as a match of the year candidate, but i think you also have to consider this match as one as well.

Enzo and Cass To ROH?

Speaking of the G1 Supercard and people jumping guardrails, Enzo and Cass made their presence felt at the joint ROH/NJPW show as they jumped the guardrail and attacked the Briscoes.

Jason’s Take:

Many fans were posting Saturday night that this appeared to be a shoot, however it looks like Cass and Enzo are on their way to ROH. But what a way to make your entrance into a promotion.

Eli Drake Released From IMPACT

IMPACT Wrestling released a statement over the weekend announcing that they are going to be parting ways with Eli Drake.

“Impact Wrestling announced today that it has terminated its relationship with Shaun Ricker, known as ‘Eli Drake’.”

What a start to the tournament!

Did your picks win points?

The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!

Here are your Gold League standings!

  • Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
  • Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
  • Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
  • Rush: 0-1, 0 points
  • Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
  • Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points

Here are your Blue League standings!

  • Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
  • Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
  • Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
  • Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
  • Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
  • Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete

My Thoughts:

Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.

Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.

In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
