Shane McMahon returns to SmackDown!

He shuffles his way to the ring but cuts his music because there’s not a lot of time and he’s not in the best of moods. Hamilton, you’ve got one shot so make it count. “Ladies and gentlemen, introducing: the Best in the Wooooooorld~! SHAAANE! McMAAAAAHON!” Shane approves, but this isn’t about him. Tonight is about Roman Reigns. Specifically, what Roman did to Vince McMahon last week. Shane shares footage, and warns us that it might make viewers sick to their stomachs. The footage shows Vince McMahon introduce the greatest acquisition for SmackDown ever: Elias! But the Big Dog came out to prove Vince was wrong with a SUPERMAN PUNCH! And Roman claims SmackDown is now HIS Yard!

Shane feels that was awful. What type of man hits another man’s father like that? Shane’s father is one of the greatest to ever live! A national treasure, even! And when Roman Reigns punched Vince, it was like disgracing the American flag or defacing Mount Rushmore. Shane is of course ignoring what he did to Miz’s own father. But can anyone believe Roman’s audacity? He didn’t just hit Vince, he hit the Chairman of a billion dollar company! And more than that, he hit Shane’s dad. There are going to be repercussions. But what is most fitting? A huge fine? A long suspension? Or a complete termination, aka “fire him”? No, Shane’s emotions are getting the best of him. This will be settled here and now in the ring! Roman, you better listen. Get your butt out here and that’s an order!

Shane waits, and Roman’s music hits! And the Big Dog arrives! Roman stares down with Shane as he heads down the ramp. Roman enters the ring and has a mic as he stands before Shane. Nebraska is on Roman’s side in this one. Roman tells Shane nothing, because he tosses the mic aside. Shane puts his mic aside, and starts to warm himself up. But here comes Elias! Elias gets an uppercut but Shane gets cheap shots in! Shane punches and stomps and knees Roman to a corner but Roman powers out and boots! Roman uppercuts but Elias saves Shane. Elias throws hands and knees into Roman and Shane piles on. The two mug Shane as fans boo and jeer. Shane holds Roman as Elias throws hands and stomps but Roman powers up and out! Only for Shane to tackle him back down.

The Cornhuskers do not approve as Shane drags Roman up for Elias. Elias gives Roman the Drift Away! Shane O’Mac and The Drifter leave Roman down and out, but this looks far from over. Will the Big Dog take a bite out of Elias next time they meet?

Shane and Elias celebrate backstage.

They both feel really good about what they just did to Roman. Shane made his dad proud and Elias taught the Big Dog a lesson. There is more to come, of course, but when and where will The Drifter man up to The Big Dog?

Backstage interview with Kofi Kingston!

He still likes being introduced as the WWE Champion. But his first singles match since Wrestlemania is against Shinsuke Nakamura. But that love and magic of Kofimania is still in his heart. It is growing stronger every day as all is right with the world! He is THE WWE Champion! Xavier Woods jumps in and wants Kofi to say it again! Kofi is our W! W! E! World, Heavyweight, CHAMPION~! Everything is right with the world. But there is another big change. Big E is recovering and will be back soon, but in his place, the honorary member of The New~ Day~. It’s Kevin Owens, aka Big O! Big leap in, too!

Kevin adds that tonight is a big night. Is he ready for Nakamura? Yes, he is. Kevin knows Kofi will win, “becaaause~! New, Day Rocks!” Kevin gets the hips swiveling, but will Kofi keep winning against the King of Strong Style?

Finn Balor VS Andrade Almas w/ Zelina Vega!

The Extraordinary Man and El Idolo met in the ring on Raw during the Superstar Shake-Up, and now they’re both on SmackDown for a rematch! Will Finn make up for that loss? Or will Almas quickly go 2-0 on the Too Sweet Intercontinental Champion?

Before their entrance, Almas & Vega accuse Finn of running away during the Shake-Up. El Idolo’s legacy will grow. Almas wants that title, and he wants to destroy “the myth of Finn Balor”. He and La Muneca make their entrance, and we begin this rematch!

Almas and Finn circle and tie up. Almas powers Finn to a corner and fires off stomps and knees and elbows! Finn turns it around to give it all back! Nebraska fires up as Finn stomps away on Almas then drags him over. Vega grabs on but gets pulled in with him! Almas uses the distraction to kick Finn away! He kicks Finn out, then runs to the corner for a triangle corkscrew splash! El Idolo fires up while we go picture in picture!

Almas drags Finn up and in, then covers, TWO! Finn gasps for air while Almas glares. Almas kicks Finn down then forearms him. Finn hits back but Almas knees low. Almas whips and knees Finn in the corner! Cover, TWO! Almas puts Finn in an armlock and leans on him. Vega coaches Almas while Finn endures. Finn powers his way up but Almas wrangles him back down. Finn endures and fights back. Almas knees low again then punches Finn to ropes. Almas CHOPS Finn and Finn staggers away. Finn reverses the whip, Almas sunset flips but Finn slips through to dropkick him down! Vega grows concerned as Finn throws Almas out. Finn speed sup but runs into an elbow! cover, TWO!

Almas keeps his cool but Vega is heated. Almas puts Finn back in the armlock, but Finn endures the grind. Finn fights up again but Almas knees low. Almas throws forearms then reels Finn in for a powerbomb. Finn fights his way out to sunset flip! TWO, and Almas boots Finn to a corner. Almas stomps away but backs off at 4. Vega is relieved to see Almas in control as he uppercuts Finn down. Almas goes back to the armlock as we return to single picture.

Fans rally for Finn and Finn fights his way back up. Almas knees low yet again, but Finn still counters the powerbomb, into a DDT! Finn crawls to a corner and boots Almas away. Finn trips Almas to double stomps! Nebraska fires up as Finn swing kicks Almas to a drop zone! Finn climbs up top but Almas trips him up! Almas sits Finn up to throw forearms then climbs up to join Finn. He stands up, SUPER STEINER sunset flip! TWO! Almas runs but is tossed out! Finn builds speed to FLY! Direct hit takes El Idolo down! Finn puts Almas back in then goes for Slingblade. Almas denies it, boot feint to elbow! Finn is down, and gets CIEN KNEES! Cover, TWO!! Finn lives and both Almas and Vega are furious!

Fans rally up for Finn again as Vega keeps Almas focused. Almas drags Vega up but Finn counters to an elbow drop DDT! Vega climbs up top!? The referee doesn’t see this before she leaps! Finn dodges and Almas catches, but then Finn shotgun dropkicks Almas down! Finn up quick, COUP DE GRACE! Cover, Finn wins!

Winner: Finn Balor, by pinfall

And the series is all tied up! The Extraordinary Man is Too Sweet for Tranquilo, but will there be a tiebreaker in the near future?

Elias sings a song.

“Money’s all around. SmackDown is mine. And speaking of money, I’ve got a little song on my mind. Roman, I gotta little proposition for you. Face me 1v1 and learn the universal truth.” At Money in the Bank, Elias promises to be Money in the bank. Shane loves it! But let’s get going. Elias VS Roman, MITB PPV, perfect idea. Shane and his new pal ride off into the night, but will Elias end up bankrupt against Roman instead?

SmackDown shares exclusive footage from earlier today.

Fire & Desire, Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville, confronted Paige over this misunderstanding in the Women’s Tag Division. They think Paige realized Absolution was way out of her league. When Kairi & Asuka fail, don’t call on them to help her out. It will be too late. Are Mandy & Sonya serving up harsh truth? Or just their own delusions?

Kairi Sane w/ Asuka & Paige VS Peyton Royce w/ Billie Kay!

The Glampire brought the Pirate Princess to SmackDown and had her join forces with the Empress of Tomorrow in hopes of them taking over the Women’s Tag Team Division. Kairi sets sail in her SmackDown solo debut, but will she earn #JoshiRoyalty a shot at the IIconics’ titles?

SmackDown returns as the IIconics make their entrance. Billie tells Paige that last week, they got her confused with Nick Fury. “Avengers, Assemble!” But instead of Thor and Captain America, it’s Asuka and “Kerry Sane”? They’re not superheroes, they’re super lame. But last week, “Kerry”- no, it’s Kay Iry? That InSane Elbow was a fluke. Peyton wasn’t warmed up and wasn’t hydrated, on top of the whole element of surprise. But tonight, Peyton drank a whole gallon of water! Really? Yes. And now Peyton will give Kairi her first loss on SmackDown. Remember that they are the future, and the future is… IICONIC! Pose. The trash talk stops so that we can begin this match.

Peyton teases Kairi but Kairi grabs her hand to wrench it to a hammerlock. Peyton elbows out and bumps Kairi on a buckle to stomp away! She backs off at the ref’s count because she knows she has until 5. Peyton then grinds her boot into Kairi until 4. She kicks Kairi at the ropes but Kairi blocks to a dragon screw! Kairi ax kicks and blockbusters Peyton down! Kairi whips but Peyton reverses, only to get the Interceptor Spear! Fans fire up as Kairi marches the plank. Sliding D! Kairi climbs and gives Peyton that InSANE Elbow! Cover, Kairi wins!

Winner: Kairi Sane, by pinfall

The Pirate Princess herself is 2-0 quickly on Peyton, and her team is quickly climbing up on the IIconics. Will Kairi and Asuka take those WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships even sooner than Paige expected?

But wait, here come Fire & Desire. They mockingly applaud the win but Paige dares them to put up or shut up. Wait, is that Jinder Mahal? The Modern Day Maharaja and the Singh Brothers are on SmackDown now, and have a match after the break.

Aleister Black speaks.

“You know who I am.” But do you know what he is? The name and persona are not the same thing, nor should the aesthetic provoke any judgmental reactions. But it does, doesn’t it? These last remaining seconds are not enough for him to explain the complexity of his tragic self. But give it time, and surely the world you know will have him condemned. What does the Embodiment of the End mean by all this?

Jinder Mahal w/ The Singh Brothers VS Chad Gable!

Raw’s newly renamed Robert Roode called Gable a load of dead weight. But will Gable prove to Roode, Mahal and the WWE Universe that he’s anything but?

But as Gable makes his entrance, LARS SULLIVAN attacks! The Leviathan clobbers Gable from behind then drags him up to ram him into a post!

No Contest

The referee reprimands Lars but Lars just laughs, then eyes Mahal and the Singh Brothers! Lars gets in the ring and stares down with Mahal. Mahal stares back, but then runs away! Lars gets Samir and then Sunil, FREAK ACCIDENT! But the Mile High Monster isn’t done, he goes to the other Singh Brother to give him the running powerbomb! Lars roars but here comes R-Truth! Truth wants payback for what Lars did last week, and throws hands with the Leviathan! Fans fire up with Truth, but he leaps into a powerbomb! Lars glares down at Truth before he drags him up, for a second running powerbomb! Fans boo but Lars simply grins at his own destructive power. Will any superstar hope to survive when The Leviathan decides to target them?

Backstage interview with Roman Reigns.

Does he accept Elias’ challenge? Elias better hope those punches were worth it, because Roman’s gonna break his jaw. Roman accepts the MITB PPV challenge! Simple as that, but will Shane help Elias out in return for earlier tonight?

Charlotte Flair heads to the ring!

The Queen grabs a mic to note how at Wrestlemania 35, in the historic Winner Take All main event, “three of the very best”. Not just the best women, but the best in the business went 1v1v1. The Baddest Woman on the Planet, The Man and The Queen battled, and Becky pinned Ronda. Becky now has both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships. But she pinned Ronda, not Charlotte. Charlotte didn’t get pinned, she didn’t get submitted. Ronda lost Charlotte’s belt for her. Becky did not beat Charlotte for one of those titles, so Charlotte wants #BeckyTwoBelts to explain why she’s the rightful owner of that other belt “when she did NOT beat me”. And so here comes Becky!

The Champ-Champ has both belts, and already has Lacey Evans on Raw targeting the red belt. Becky responds to Charlotte wanting an explanation. It was Winner Takes All, does Charlotte not understand what that means? Becky didn’t pin Charlotte, because she was too busy beating the woman no one else, not even Charlotte, could beat! Charlotte was in that match, but Becky had beaten her so many times, she’s lost count. Becky wanted to beat Ronda because she already knew she could beat Charlotte. And in the end, Becky left with both belts and there wasn’t a thing either woman could do about it.

Charlotte says the only injustice here is Becky holding both belts without beating both women. Charlotte is the one in Becky’s head, because every time that Lacey Evans knocks her out, all Becky can see is Charlotte. It’s all Becky can tweet about! Charlotte in Becky’s head? Since this began, Becky has owned Charlotte time and again! Becky fights off the odds while Charlotte is on her worst streak yet. Charlotte admits she is on a bad streak, but she feels Becky is scared. Becky has everything to lose but Charlotte has nothing left. After Lacey at MITB, Charlotte’s next and taking her belt back. How is Charlotte next? Shut up, ya dope and let Becky say what she wants. What Becky wants is for Charlotte to clear out for the sake of Bayley, Ember Moon and Mickie James! Charlotte is the web management won’t remove! Charlotte’s Web! Clever!

But Becky continues to say that if Charlotte wants to work her way up from the back of the lien, go ahead. Charlotte’s done it 8, she’ll do it a 9th! But speaking of Bayley, here she comes! The Superstar Shake-Up is about fresh starts, but all Bayley sees is a rerun. Bayley thanks Becky for that shout-out. Becky may have lost count on how many times she’s beaten Charlotte, but we can all count how many times Becky’s beaten Bayley: ZERO! Charlotte suggests Bayley ignore Becky, but get int he back of the line. SmackDown is still Charlotte’s show. Bayley pushes Charlotte away to tell her to stop acting like she’s owed stuff and start earning stuff. They both want a shot, so let’s see who deserves on via a match!

Charlotte has no time for Bayley but Bayley is gonna make her make time! What happens between the NXT Horsewomen after the break?!

SmackDown Women’s Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Charlotte Flair VS Bayley!

SmackDown returns, and we have our match! Who will earn a future title match against Becky Lynch?

The bell rings and the two tie up. They’re even in power, but Charlotte uses leverage to stay put. Bayley still gets her to a corner but Charlotte turns it around. Charlotte grinds forearms then shoves Bayley. Bayley shoves back and knocks Charlotte off her feet! Charlotte gets up but Bayley headlocks. Charlotte knees low then scoops but Bayley slips out to fire off forearms. Bayley whips but Charlotte tumbles to the apron. Charlotte shoulders in but into a stunner! Bayley dives through the corner to dropkick Charlotte! Bayley puts Charlotte back in and speeds things up to crossbody Charlotte! Cover, TWO!

Bayley keeps on Charlotte with a low elbow and sliding lariat! Charlotte throws Bayley into ropes then spins Bayley for a neckbreaker! She throws Bayley down by her ponytail then stalks Bayley to ropes. Charlotte stomps away on Bayley but lets up at 4. Fans “WOO~” as Charlotte pulls Bayley into ropes. Charlotte lets up at 4, but brings Bayley to a buckle for bumps. She bumps Bayley off other buckles, then SLAPS her. Bayley slaps back but Charlotte rocks her with a right. Charlotte stands Bayley up to whip, but Bayley goes up and over to roll up. TWO, but Bayley goes up again to springboard crossbody! Cover, TWO! Bayley runs in and hits a knee! She keeps going to ram in her shoulder, then wacky waving back elbow!

Bayley runs for another but misses. She boots Charlotte back but Charlotte elbows back. Charlotte drops a knee on Bayley’s knee! And then drags Bayley around for more knees into the leg! The Queen is in control as we go picture in picture.

Charlotte stalks Bayley and wraps her leg on the bottom rope. The ref counts and Charlotte lets go at 4 to stomp Bayley instead. Charlotte drags Bayley up and sweeps the good leg to then springboard sit-down on the bad leg! Charlotte circles Bayley like a shark before putting the rope back on the ropes. She drops down on the leg again, then stalks Bayley to the ropes. Charlotte keeps on the leg by wrapping it on the second rope then kicking it down. Bayley catches the newest springboard into a roll-up! TWO and Charlotte CHOPS Bayley. Bayley forearms back but Charlotte CHOPS! They repeat, but Bayley falls over. Charlotte chop blocks the bad leg out! Cover, TWO! Bayley still lives but Charlotte keeps her focus. We return to single picture as Charlotte wants the Figure Four.

Charlotte works on what she could do next, but fans are rallying for Bayley. Fans duel as Charlotte drags Bayley over to a drop zone. Charlotte climbs but Bayley avoids the moonsault! Bayley gives Charlotte a BIG back suplex! Cover, TWO!! Bayley is so close and yet so far away! Charlotte crawls to ropes but Bayley pursues. Bayley drags Charlotte up but Charlotte powers her to a corner. Charlotte goes for another knee but Bayley yanks her out of the air! Bayley runs to sunset flip Charlotte into buckles! Cover, TWO!? Charlotte survives and Bayley is beside herself. But Bayley grits her teeth and heads up top. Charlotte gets up and trips Bayley up! Figure Four, but cradle counter! TWO!? SPEAR! Cover, Charlotte wins!

Winner: Charlotte Flair, by pinfall; NEW #1 Contender to the SmackDown Women’s Championship

The Queen proves she deserves another shot because she earned her shot!

Becky Lynch watches backstage, and again has to cross paths with her arch-nemesis. But why is she accepting another challenger on top of Lacey Evans? Having both belts means having to do double duty, and Becky promises to make Lacey tap before she gets those fancy gloves off. Is Becky underestimating her competition? No but she’s betting on herself. Becky will defend both titles in one night, and still be the Champ-Champ. The Man takes on a huge challenge, but will she prove she’s worthy of being #BeckyTwoBelts after Money in the Bank?

Same old Kevin, same old brutality. Kevin may have just broken Xavier’s back, and he’s broken the WWE Universe’s heart yet again. Will he break Kofi’s dreams by ending his title reign?

My Thoughts:

What a great episode! And that’s even with the Superstar Shake-Up supposedly continuing into a second week to make up for the changes brought on by Vince’s indecision and apparently Fox’s request to have a stronger Latino base for when SmackDown goes to them. That’s all fine but perhaps they should’ve given Vince a call before making the decision in the first place. Who knows, the brand split might end (again) in 2019. But at least we got a rematch of Finn VS Almas here for another great match, with Finn winning. I would hope we get a tiebreaker soon, maybe at MITB, title more than likely on the line. And naturally Shane has to have back-up against Roman, and naturally it’s Elias. Shane had great Heel hypocrisy in his promo and Elias gets the best of Roman now, but pretty sure Roman wins at MITB PPV.

You’ve gotta feel for Chad Gable. He no longer has a dedicated tag team and then he’s just fodder for Lars. I started feeling bad for Mahal, too, because he almost ended up the same. Lars dominates Truth again, and this must be the feud they’re going with, but there isn’t much more to Lars as a character right now than smash, roar, smash again, leave. Of course, this is all Vince booking things, and he’s done the same to the War Viking Raider Experience. Hopefully Lars can get a promo in before they have an actual match. Speaking of, Aleister’s promo was vague, but that’s fine per his character from NXT. And we get the same Firefly Fun House from last night, so I wonder if he’ll be on both shows for a minute to see what stories we can get between both rosters.

As entertaining as the IIconics are, I feel like Vince only gave them the belts so they’ll put over another team that wasn’t Bayley & Sasha. Vince took away the fun of Boss & Hug VS Sky Pirates in NXT just so Vince could do something here. It’s still involving Kairi, at least, and she did great tonight. But it also looks like they may have to go through Mandy & Sonya before earning their title shot. That should be fun, in that Paige can laugh at them while her new team moves on. And as many hoped, Becky’s pulling a double header at MITB. She made a great point about Charlotte needing to move aside, but sadly, Vince says otherwise. Bayley VS Charlotte was amazing, but Vince chooses Becky to take on two blondes in one night. Lacey’s doubtful but Charlotte might be able to win against a tired Becky.

And everyone saw it coming but to think Kevin Owens would turn on The New Day here and now. Kofi VS Nakamura was an incredible match, Kevin and Xavier were incredible on commentary, and that was a wicked beating for Kofi and Xavier from Kevin. I was imagining that, with Big E out on injury, something would happen to Xavier and that leaves Kofi all alone. Kofi and Kevin will obviously fight for the title at MITB PPV, but I would hope Kofi wins to keep Kofimania going. Of course, as with this title, Rollins’ Universal Championship and either of Becky’s titles, Mr. & Ms. Money in the Bank could easily go after them in the same night as winning the briefcases. A cash-in might be the one way fans can even remotely accept one of the big three losing a title because cash-ins are all about sniping anyway.

My Score: 8.5/10

Andrew’s G1 Climax 29 Ratings & Analysis: Night 6 B Block

Juice Robinson, Tomohiro Ishii and Jon Moxley come in at the top of the standings. How do we see B Block take shape?

Published

Juice Robinson, Tomohiro Ishii and Jon Moxley come in at the top of the standings. How do we see B Block take shape?

This whole day is based around two major things:

Will Jay White or Tetsuya Naito get a win?

Will Moxley or Ishii kill one another?

Let’s find out!

Ratings:

  • Bad Luck Fale & Chase Owens vs Zack Sabre Jr & Yoshinobu Kanemaru: Fale wins via Grenade @4:50 – **
  • Tomoaki Honma & Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Minoru Suzuki & Lance Archer: Archer wins via EBD Claw Hold @9:50 – **
  • SANADA, EVIL & BUSHI vs KENTA, Kota Ibushi & Clark Connors: BUSHI wins via MX @9:02 – ** 1/2
  • YOSHI-HASHI & Kazuchika Okada vs Will Ospreay & Toa Henare: YOSHI wins via Fisherman Buster @8:45 – ** 1/4
  • B Block: Shingo Takagi vs Taichi: Takagi wins via Last of the Dragon @14:40 – ****
  • B Block: Jeff Cobb vs Juice Robinson: Cobb wins via Tour of the Islands @13:20 – *** 1/2
  • B Block: Toru Yano vs Jay White: Yano wins via Brass Knuckle Low Blow/Roll-Up @3:05 – ** 1/2
  • B Block: Tetsuya Naito vs Hirooki Goto: Naito wins via Destino @16:00 – *** 3/4
  • B Block: Jon Moxley vs Tomohiro Ishii: Moxley wins via Deathrider @20:35 – **** 1/2

Analysis:

Well Fale tried to outsmart the Rainmaker in his last G1 match, and that didn’t go too well. So Sabre is being a whiny child, tried to step to Fale and for the most part, got brushed off. Fale isn’t really in a position to eat another loss, but it’s unusual for Sabre to be doing so poorly. I’m curious if Sabre continues this slide until maybe TAKA Michinoku returns to be his hype man, or Sabre gets off the schneid.

People, everybody dies. You know that, Lance knows that, Honma knows that…Kairi Sane knows that. This didn’t really add much to things except the undercurrent of a quiet Minoru Suzuki is scary for the whole world. Also – Everybody Dies!

Now that SANADA and EVIL have had their match, there is some symbiosis back on the LIJ undercards. KENTA and Kota teaming together was a cute call back, but nothing of heavy merit came from this match. BUSHI continues to rack up positive momentum during these tags, Clark Connors is impressive for an LA Dojo Young Lion. So decent match, but aside from EVIL and KENTA brawling after the match and SANADA and Ibushi having a rather civil fan support battle, nothing too important for the impending matches.

Okada and Ospreay did have the crowd hot, but aside from a small flourish, this was mostly YOSHI and Henare. Surprisingly, YOSHI-HASHI has put together a few pinfalls in the tag matches, so that tends to actually play a role in the second half story telling. Ospreay may be on his way to a big upset since even if Okada seems to be positioned to win A Block, he won’t make it through unscathed.

Now this was a fun match. It was a continuation of the Suzuki-Gun/LIJ drama, but Taichi has his own issues. Shingo is fighting as a Junior Heavyweight and Taichi moved up to Heavyweight last year, but was overlooked for the G1. So the fact that Shingo asks and gets in, yet Taichi moves up and was ignored has to bother him. With all of these little things eating through, Taichi brought out the Dangerous T that many of us have grown to love. Sure there was a brief moment of shenanigans with lovely Miho and the microphone stand, but 90% of the match was on the up and up. Pumping Bomber versus Axe Bomber was great, the callbacks to both of their mentors was wonderful and just generally speaking, when the Holy Emperor tries, those are great matches. Shingo getting the win won’t sit well with Taichi, but we’ve got plenty more time to see how this all falls.

Juice starts off the match in a 3 way tie for first, but Cobb really needs a win to legitimize his tournament. Being undefeated in ROH for about a year, as well as all his other accolades, he needs to stop losing. Cobb showed a little more fire than usual in this match and took it to Juice. Juice has been in hard hitting affairs all tournament and it looks like Juice might’ve finally hit the wall. Should be interesting to see if Juice flounders from here or if he recovers.

Well the Chaos revenge tour has another stop with Toru Yano and Jay White. Jay has not gotten off to a good start and it’s all his past decisions coming to bite him. This match…would be no different. Yano takes advantage of Gedo getting involved. Between Barbara Jean the turnbuckle pad and the brass knuckles from Gedo, Jay White’s nuts didn’t stand a chance. So Yano runs away with 2 more points and Jay’s pride…and other things…are a bit sore.

Goto started off the tournament looking like a new man, Naito has also looked different, but for different reasons. Naito sitting in the basement with zero points and Goto with the renewed sense of purpose makes for an odd dynamic. This match is one of their usual ones, where it’s quick bursts, hard hitting and a few solid false finishes. However, at multiple points Naito’s usual tranquilo is shaken and you can see him show levels of concern. Goto being the one with the power in the match, makes for some unique interactions. Naito does pull off the win, but it’s not for Goto’s lack of trying and kicking out of one running Destino. Naito finally gets some points, but it’s nothing near dominant enough to breathe a sigh of relief.

Moxley versus Ishii was the insane hard hitting match we expected. Ishii even flew. He hit a splash on Moxley through a table. The Stone Pitbull flew. Yes I realize there is a callback to Masato Tanaka in that move, but you don’t understand, Ishii flew. Anyway, the beauty of Red Shoes as a referee is he understands each wrestlers personality, so he gives them a little more leash to do what they like to do. Moxley used weapons, Ishii egged it on, there were huge strikes, Ishii’s torpedo style rising headbutts and just good violence. This was a bar fight and no one was upset. Moxley getting the win was a little surprising since most of us assume he won’t be available for many if any later dates once AEW TV starts up. This was just a nice change of pace for the usual New Japan and/or Strong Style match.

Overall Score: 7.75/10

With a great Taichi match and Moxley changing the pace, this show was definitely something to behold. Jay White’s continued spiral is more amusing than Sabre’s since this seems like retribution where Sabre is just a punk bitch when he loses. Even with an uneventful undercard, the main Block matches kept everything moving upward and onward.

With Moxley as the sole 3-0, who unseats the Death Rider?

B Block Standings:

  • Jon Moxley – 3-0 (6 Points)
  • Toru Yano – 2-1 (4 Points)
  • Tomohiro Ishii – 2-1 (4 Points)
  • Juice Robinson – 2-1 (4 Points)
  • Shingo Takagi – 2-1 (4 Points)
  • Jeff Cobb – 1-2 (2 Points)
  • Tetsuya Naito – 1-2 (2 Points)
  • Hirooki Goto – 1-2 (2 Points)
  • Taichi – 1-2 (2 Points)
  • Jay White – 0-3 (0 Points)

ROH looks back to Best in the World.

The Peacock faced Rush’s brother, Dragon Lee, and beat him using Rush’s moves! The Best of 3 Series’ third match saw the K I N G topple the Franchise Player! And the Villain Enterprises expanded to include an army! A FLIP Army! The Allure used every trick up their sleeves to beat the Pretty Badass and American Joshi, but were confronted by Maria Manic! Manic didn’t get her hands on Mandy Leon or the Beautiful People, so she ran roughshod over security! And most shocking of all, Matt Taven didn’t need to resort to anything underhanded to down the Hawaiian Juggernaut!! How can anyone hope to stop Taven’s #PurpleReign now?

Kenny King joins ROH commentary for this opening contest.

Coming off a big victory over THE Jay Lethal, the K I N G wants to see what his old friends are up to.

Proving Ground: Rhett Titus VS Shane Taylor!

The Fittest returns to in-ring action to show that Strong Beach physique. But will physique be enough to survive the Notorious Hitman and ROH World Television Champion?

Rhett wants to shake hands with his former Rebellion brother, but Taylor SPITS on the Code of Honor! Rhett just uses it as body oil. The bell rings and the 10 minute time limit starts counting down. All Rhett has to do is survive the 10 minutes, and he gets a future shot at the title!

Fans rally as the two circle. Taylor shoves Rhett down and taunts him as he stands up. Rhett comes back to waistlock, but Taylor standing switches. Rhett powers his way out, but gets caught in a full nelson! Taylor grins but Rhett powers out of the nelson! Taylor headlocks but Rhett powers out to headlock back. Rhett grinds but Taylor powers out and runs Rhett over! Taylor wants Rhett to stop playing, and scoops him up. Rhett slips out and dropkicks Taylor back! Rhett grins and flexes, but then he tries to fireman’s carry, and Taylor is too much. Taylor spins Rhett, misses one way but hits the clothesline on the other! ROH goes to break as Taylor dares Rhett to get up.

ROH returns and Rhett wrecks Taylor with a dropkick. Rhett shows off his core strength with leg raises, but Taylor pulls him down to ROCK him with that One Hitter Quitter! Taylor drags Rhett up and into the ring to put him on the apron. Taylor climbs up, to drop the leg! He laughs and taunts Rhett as he CHOPS the chest! Rhett gasps for air while he crawls to a corner. Taylor climbs in and throws another big right! Rhett forearms Taylor back! Rhett backs Taylor down but Taylor blocks and reverses the whip to rock him again! Taylor yanks Rhett up but Rhett lands on his feet! Rhett rocks Taylor back with a JAB!

Rhett is in the corner again, and dodges Taylor as he runs in, to give him back a splash! And a BOOT! Then side to side for another! Rhett keeps moving to boot again! Fans fire up with The Fittest as he fireman’s carries Taylor again! For a Samoan Drop! Cover, TWO! Rhett keeps his cool as Taylor goes to a corner. Rhett runs corner to corner but his boot is blocked! Taylor shoves Rhett back to KNEE him in the face! Cover, TWO!! Rhett survives and now Taylor is frustrated. Taylor toys with Rhett but Rhett SLAPS him back! Taylor pie faces but Rhett CHOPS and forearms away! Rhett fires off forearm after forearm but Taylor bobs ‘n’ weaves to HEADBUTT! Cover, Taylor wins!

Winner: Shane Taylor, by pinfall

Rhett fell short of proving himself worthy, and the ROH World TV Champion continues rolling on. Kenny gives Taylor his due props, but goes to check on Rhett in the ring.

“I’m searching for the words, man, to describe what I just saw out of you right now.” The word is, “disgusting.” King is disgusted by Rhett. What happened to him? ROH stuck them together and they fought, they scratched and they clawed and became one of the best teams ever, the All Night Express. They beat The Briscoes, the Young Bucks, Roderick Strong, Tyler Black, you name them. “What the hell happened to you?!” Rhett fails a Proving Ground match because he only proved that while he has the body of a god, he has the “heart of a b*tch.” There’s no fight left in Rhett! If Kenny was Joe Koff, he’d rip up Rhett’s contract on the spot!

Rhett’s family and pregnant wife are here, yet he embarrasses them!? Does Rhett think it’s okay that the reason his son won’t look him in the eyes is because daddy’s a coward?! Rhett gets mad, and that’s what Kenny wants to see! Show him something! But when Rhett doesn’t, Kenny is the one who gets mad. Is the Titus family really proud of that?! Because the Rhett Kenny King knew was a man, not this “punk ass b*tch.” Will these fighting words light a fire in the Fittest? Or does the K I N G have a point?

ROH hears from Kelly Klein.

“Women of Honor has some of the best women wrestling has to offer right now, and I love it.” That means the Gatekeeper will defend her title against some of the best women around. Maria Manic has Kelly’s attention, and Kelly is ready for that match. Kelly’s even excited to fight Tasha Steelz, the Allure, Stella Grey or Jenny Rose as she defends her world title. Who makes it out of the contender’s match first in line for a fight with the Pretty Badass?

ROH looks back to June 29th.

Jay Lethal vowed to work twice as hard as before, “whip the crap out of Matt Taven,” and become a THREE-TIME ROH World Champion! But Taven told him that in New York City, July 20th, we will all finally see that we are living in “The Time of Matt Taven.” Taven is the King of ROH, because heee’s Matt Taven, and he was #BorntoRule! But then, Alex Shelley returned!

Shelley was careful not to say he retired from ROH. Let’s pretend he has a card in his hand that is known as the “veteran’s card.” And let’s say there’s a hole punched for every year he’s contributed to the industry. That’s 17 holes. Shelley’s fingerprints are all over the world of wrestling, so now he plays his card. Shelley expects to be respected! And it won’t matter who walks out of Manhattan, Shelley just wants his shot to prove to them, him, and the world that he still has #TalentonLoanfromGod! Who will the returning revolutionary meet after mayhem goes down in Manhattan?

WOH World Championship #1 Contender’s Four Corner Survival: Stella Grey VS Jenny Rose VS Angelina Love w/ The Allure VS Tasha Steelz!

While only one of the Beautiful People is in this match, it is no surprise that she still has her friends by her side. Angelina Love leads the way as Velvet Sky helps Mandy Leon and their fluffy mascot, Foxxy, into the ring. But the spotlight quickly moves to the Garden State Goddess, little gritty Grey, and the American Joshi. With Kelly Klein watching on commentary, who grabs a huge victory and earns a Summer Supercard showdown?

But before the bell rings, Velvet grabs a mic to tell Jenny she doesn’t belong here, that Stella doesn’t belong here, and Tasha- She doesn’t even know who Tasha is, actually, but she doesn’t belong here, either. The only woman in the ring that matters is the Allure’s Bada$$, Angelina Love, the TRUE #1 Contender! Angelina proved herself already when she pinned Kelly at Best in the World. Win-loss records leave out a lot, and Kelly knows Angelina didn’t need to cheat that night to win. But talking aside, the other three competitors uphold the Code of Honor, but don’t even worry about Angelina. The bell finally rings, and Jenny goes right at her!

Stella and Tasha fight while Jenny rains down rights on Angelina! Angelina and Jenny roll out of the ring and Angelina kicks back. Jenny forearms but Angelina kicks again. Stella whips Tasha but Tasha runs Stella over. Tasha brushes herself off and runs, but Stella keeps up. Tasha and Stella trade hip toss blocks while Angelina and Jenny trade apron bumps. Stella rolls Tasha but Tasha arm-drags back. Stella arm-drags Tasha now, but Angelina kicks Jenny away. Angelina is on Stella with a sleeper, but Stella kicks Tasha away. Angelina throws Stella down by her hair, and The Allure cheers her on as she whips Stella into a corner. Stella runs into Tasha, then Angelina dropkicks them into each other. Angelina throws Stella out and runs, but into Jenny’s SPEAR! Cover, TWO!

Tasha throws Jenny out fast and stares down with Angelina. Tasha flexes but it doesn’t impress Angelina. Angelina ties up with Tasha to a headlock. Tasha powers out but Angelina runs her over. Things speed up and Tasha shows agility to hip toss Angelina down! Fans fire up as Tasha whips. Angelina reverses and scoops to a spinning sidewalk slam! Cover, TWO! Tasha fires forearms back and whips, but Angelina reverses. Tasha goes up and over and rolls, to drop toehold Angelina down. Angelina gets clear of the basement dropkick but Tasha gets clear of the elbow drop. The two stare down as fans cheer.

Tasha eggs Angelina on, and the two start trading forearms. Tasha gets an edge and fires off! She runs but Mandy trips her up! A Fatal 4 Way means no disqualifications, but the referee tells the Allure they’re EJECTED! Mandy is upset and Velvet just shrugs it off as they take Foxxy with them. Angelina is a bit more concerned now that she’s all alone as ROH goes to break.

ROH returns and Tasha waistlocks Angelina. They roll to a cover, TWO! Stella throws Tasha out to roll Angelina, but Jenny breaks it. Jenny kicks Stella out to then La Magistrol Angelina, TWO! Jenny stays on Angelina in a corner for a back elbow and whip. Angelina reverses but Jenny dodges to send Angelina into the post! Jenny dropkicks Stella back out and goes out to join her. They start trading hands, but Tasha slingshots out to take them both down! Fans fire up but now Angelina climbs up top. Angelina LEAPS to crossbody them all down! This is the top tier talent Kelly has wanted to see. But speaking of, Angelina dares Kelly to come closer. Kelly heads closer to the ring, and stares Angelina down the whole way. But this keeps Angelina seeing Jenny, Stella and Tasha all get back in the ring.

Jenny clubs Angelina, and has help from Stella! They DOUBLE POWERBOMB Angelina down! But then Tasha double clotheslines Jenny and Stella down! Fans fire up behind the Boricua Badass as she fireman’s carries Stella. Stella fights out and drags Tasha into a sleeper hold clutch! Angelina kicks Jenny then hits a complete shot, to the Koji Klutch! Side-by-side submissions, but which one puts their victim out first!? Jenny and Tasha endures, and Jenny reaches for a ropebreak! The ref counts and Angelina lets her go. Meanwhile, Tasha sits up, and Angelina kicks Stella off her! Jenny kicks Angelina down, then goes to Tasha for a German Suplex! Jenny kicks Stella for a snap suplex! She runs at Angelina but gets the Botox Injection! Angelina covers, but Stella breaks it!

Stella scoops but Angelina slips out and shoves, Botox Injection for Stella! Tasha throws Angelina out to get Stella with a CUTTER! Cover, Tasha wins!!

Winner: Tasha Steelz, by pinfall; NEW #1 Contender to the WOH World Championship

Angelina ain’t happy about it, but the Boricua Badass got the better of her fair and square, okurrr? Can Tasha make it a one and done when it comes to title matches? Or will Kelly still be the champion when she leaves Toronto?

But wait, the lights drop down. And a rather creepy little video plays. Dolls sit in a line, but a hand reaches out to take the man. To chew him up and spit him out! Because the MANEATER is here! And Maria Manic has appeared behind Tasha and Angelina! Angelina saw this once before, she gets away again. But Tasha shows no fear! Security hurries to keep this fight from happening, but Maria just manhandles them like she did at Best in the World! She takes one and tosses him from the ring, then clotheslines another! But she slaps the third around to then put him in the torture rack! And then she dumps him out onto the other two! The fourth man gets the double hand choke slam! Maria Manic made mince meat of five grown men, but is she going to devour the entire WOH Division?

ROH hears from Rush.

El Toro Blanco is “sick and tired” of Dalton Castle. Rush whooped The Peacock in 15 seconds. But if Castle wants to mess with his familia, well perro, the bull is going to end him for good! Rush didn’t come to ROH to play, he came to become the best! “Nothing happens unless I say so.” When and where will this grudge match happen? Mass Hyteria on July 21st! A wild weekend is coming for ROH, who survives the mayhem and hysteria on the way to the Summer Supercard?

Six Man Tag: The Kingdom VS Jay Lethal & The Bouncers!

Matt Taven vows to prove he’s the king, while TK O’Ryan and Vinnie Marseglia vow to show who are the real elite tag team wrestlers in ROH. But they’ll have to prove it with actions, not words, as they take on their rivals all at once! Will the Franchise Player gain major momentum towards Manhattan when he sides with former foes in Brian Milonas & The Beer City Bruiser?

But given the apparent collusion involving Kenny King and timekeeper Amy Rose, Jay Lethal asks that she take her leave. Amy obliges, not wanting to be a source of controversy for this main event. The Kingdom then make their entrance, and ROH takes another break.

ROH returns and Lethal starts against the Horror King. The bell rings and they tie up right away! Vinnie powers Lethal to a corner but the ref backs him off. Vinnie throws a forearm but Lethal gives it back and we have a brawl! Lethal starts backing Vinnie down but Vinnie knees low and puts Lethal in a corner. Vinnie chops but Lethal CHOPS right back. They trade more CHOPS, and Vinnie wants Lethal to give him more. Lethal CHOPS Vinnie like he wants, but Vinnie just trash talks and knees low. Vinnie runs but misses in the corner, Lethal hip tosses and cartwheels to dropkick! Vinnie hurries to the Kingdom’s corner and tags to TK. Brian “Brawler” Milonas tags in and ties up with the Sassy Wild Horse.

Milonas shoves TK all the way back to his corner! TK runs back out but skids to a stop as Milonas towers over him. TK says he wants Lethal? Milonas gives TK what he wants, but he does tag Lethal a bit hard. Lethal shakes it off and ties up with TK. TK headlocks but Lethal powers out, only for TK to run him over. TK runs and runs Lethal over again, but things speed up. Lethal hurdles but his hip toss is blocked to TK’s own hip toss. Lethal boots TK back but runs into an elbow. TK runs but into that hip toss and cartwheel dropkick! Lethal has gotten two Kingdom members with that, and then tags in Bruiser. Taven tags in and Bruiser dares him to bring the fight. Taven has Bruiser calm down, and fans chant “Melvin! Melvin!” But again, The Kingdom wants Lethal.

Taven wants Lethal and even offers a free shot. Bruiser says Taven’s too scared to fight a real man. Taven just wants Lethal, and again gives a free shot. Lethal tags in but he sees the sucker punch coming. The two fire off haymakers and CHOPS on each other! Lethal whips but Taven reverses, but Lethal gets under TK at the ropes. Vinnie rushes at Lethal on the outside but Lethal dodges to CHOP! TK jumps but Lethal punches him out of the air, only for Taven to wreck Lethal with a dropkick! Taven drags Lethal up and throws him into railing, then The Kingdom attacks like piranha! The Bouncers protest but The Kingdom put Lethal in. Taven stomps and chokes Lethal to then tag in Vinnie. The Kingdom mugs Lethal with stomps then Vinnie rains rights down. Fans duel as ROH goes to one more break.

ROH returns once again, and The Kingdom continues to mug Lethal. Taven stomps Lethal down then drags him up to put in the Kingdom’s corner. Taven CHOPS Lethal then tags in Vinnie. Vinnie tags in TK, and the two whip Lethal. Lethal reverses to whip Vinnie, but TK waistlocks him. Lethal boots Vinnie then slips out of TK’s suplex. He ducks them both to tag in Bruiser! Bruiser rallies with the power of “BEER! BEER!” He punches Taven, uppercuts Vinnie, and uppercuts TK! Bruiser brings TK in for the sidewinder DDT! Cover but Vinnie breaks it! Vinnie fish hooks Bruiser but Bruiser bites the fingers. Oh but wait, Bruiser can’t bite, “I ain’t got no teef!” Bruiser brings TK up but TK CHOPS! TK kicks low and DDT’s Bruiser! But Milonas tags in to rally on The Kingdom! He even back drops Taven!

Milonas falls back to senton on Taven! Vinnie runs but gets flattened with a crossbody! Cover, but Taven breaks it! Taven fires off strikes on Milonas, but Milonas powers Taven to a fireman’s carry. TK leaps but into Milonas’ arms! Milonas gives them a Fall Away Samoan Drop combo! Fans fire up with the Mastodon, but also for Lethal as he DIVES onto Vinnie! Lethal gets back in to DIVE onto TK! And of course, he runs and DIVES onto Taven! The trifecta has been completed! Vinnie runs in to fight with the Bouncers, and whips Bruiser, but Bruiser reverses. TK tags in before Vinnie gets fed to the Scrapbuster! TK climbs and leaps, but into Bruiser’s arms. Milonas sandwiches TK with Bruiser, and it even sends Bruiser stumbling. But Bruiser comes back while Milonas climbs, and it’s the Last Call leg drop! Cover, The Bouncers and Lethal win!

Winners: Jay Lethal & The Bouncers, Brian Milonas pinning

The winner of Guerrillas of Destiny VS The Briscoes in the ROH World Tag Team Championship match at Manhattan Mayhem better watch out, because some big competition is meeting them at Mass Hysteria. Who will The Bouncers get to toast with on the 21st?

But wait, Taven doesn’t let Lethal go, and gives him CLIMAX to the floor!! The Bouncers hurry to Lethal’s side as The Kingdom retreats. Taven raises the title, but will he still be holding onto the gold after Manhattan Mayhem?

My Thoughts:

A pretty good go-home with major developments for a busy weekend coming up for ROH. Not only is Manhattan Mayhem on Saturday, July 20th, but now there’s another event on July 21st with this “Mass Hysteria” in Lowell, Massachusetts. Of course, this is all on top of ROH TV finally referencing Best in the World, but the usual mess was mostly ironed out. Rush has a solid promo, and his grudge match with Castle will surely be longer and better than the shocking 15 second squash at G1 Supercard. What’s odd is that while Kenny King beat Lethal at BitW in their Best of 3, he’s doing a story with Rhett Titus next? Lethal’s using his contractual rematch, sure, but is this story with Rhett going to delay Kenny’s shot at Taven more? Is Rhett going to turn so that we more or less get an All Night Express reunion? It is both intriguing yet confusing as to what is going on here.

The Women’s Fatal 4 was a great match, and what a great surprise to see the younger Tasha Steelz getting this chance. I thought it was going to be Angelina Love, but at the same time, even Angelina Love seems like an odd choice from out of The Allure. But I suppose with now women’s tag titles in ROH (yet?) all three could try going after Kelly in turn. And then we got to see Maria Manic at the same time tonight, that was a great way to debut! The Maneater will surely be a contender, and a monster for the Allure to worry about while they’re each taking turns against Kelly Klein. Kelly’s promo is obviously to put the company over, but for just the WOH Division in a vacuum, it is definitely heating up now with an addition like Manic.

And to end the show, we get a really good Six Man Tag, and obviously the goal for The Kingdom was to do as much as they could to Lethal so it’ll be easier for Taven in Manhattan. I am still disappointed the timing kept Jeff Cobb from becoming ROH’s top guy, but I again reference that the G1 Climax and Cobb going back and forth just wouldn’t be good for him or ROH. Lethal might as well dethrone Taven, joining Adam Cole as the only other three-time champ. Then we could get Lethal VS King 4 within a span of a few months, and maybe that story (which has an interesting twist with how it involves timekeeper Amy Rose) is what gives King his first world title reign, and makes him an ROH Triple Crown winner. Then we can circle back to King VS K I N G, Grand Slam Taven VS Triple Crown Kenny for the One True King of Honor!

My Score: 8.2/10
