Mitchell’s WWE 205 Live Results & Report! (7/23/19)

A huge night of crossover between 205 Live and NXT!

205 Live = Cruiserweight Division

The Cruiserweights of NXT join 205 Live!

In the wake of Raw Reunion, the Cruiserweight Division heats things up by bringing in superstars from NXT! While he didn’t win in the Breakout Tournament, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott did make an impression! Can he do the same in a non-title match with THE Cruiserweight Champion, Drew Gulak?

OFFICIAL RESULTS

  • Lucha House Party VS Humberto Carrillo & Raul Mendoza; Carrillo & Mendoza win.
  • Oney Lorcan VS Tony Isner; Lorcan wins.
  • Drew Gulak VS Isaiah “Swerve” Scott; Gulak wins.

PLAY BY PLAY

There is some serious drama in the Cruiserweight Division.

After weeks of her husband dropping the ball,  Maria Kanellis dropped a bomb on him with their second child being on the way. And as he kept losing, she kept piling on the insults and humiliation. But instead of manning up and taking accountability, Mike just dumped it all on Drake Maverick, who was dealing with his own issues. Granted, the 205 Live GM should have left the WWE 24/7 Championship alone and focused on his real job, but at least Maverick owned up to it.

But Mike wouldn’t have any of that. Not only did Mike rip into his opponent last week, but he verbally berated Maverick in the ring and to his face, insulting Maverick’s own wife! Maverick lost his cool and threw hands on Mike, which is a major violation of the rules between a General Manager and a wrestler under his purview. Maverick said after the show that you can only push a man so far. And if Mike wants a Cruiserweight Championship opportunity that badly, he’ll have to earn it, just like everyone else. But for the first time in 205 Live history, it will be a match… with DRAKE MAVERICK!

Drake Maverick now speaks tonight.

“I’ve had a week to calm down and think about my actions.” As the GM, his actions were completely uncalled for. But as a man, everyone should agree that Maverick is justified. Too bad Mike isn’t here in person to hear this from Maverick, but as he said last week, Maverick will give Mike what he wants. Mike will get his opportunity for a title match, and he gets a chance to kick Maverick’s ass. Those were his words, weren’t they? But just because Mike has this opportunity doesn’t mean Maverick isn’t going to fight back. Mike won’t be facing Drake Maverick the GM next week. No, next week, won’t even be a match! It’ll be a fight! Because the last order as GM from Maverick is that they get all their anger out, because he is making it… an UNSANCTIONED MATCH! What won’t Maverick and Mike do in order to settle this issue once and for all!?

Lucha House Party VS Humberto Carrillo & Raul Mendoza!

The crossover begins with some high-flying lucha libre! Humberto and Raul reunite to take on the triumphantly returning Lucha Dragon and King of the Ropes! But while this is a crossover encounter, can Mendoza make an impact and find a place here in the Cruiserweight Division?

The teams sort out and Mendoza starts against Kalisto. The two circle as fans rally up with “LUCHA! LUCHA!” Kalisto and Mendoza tie up and Mendoza wrenches to a wristlock. Kalisto cartwheels to reverse the wrench back. Mendoza rolls and wrenches back to headlock Kalisto. Kalisto powers out and scoops Mendoza, but Mendoza escapes the tilt-o-whirl with a grin. Mendoza gets Kalisto in the scoop but Kalisto lands on his feet now. They both go to arm-drag but that cancels out. Kalisto whips and hurdles but Mendoza keeps up. Kalisto handstand walks to headscissor but Mendoza handsprings through! Mendoza huricanranas but Kalisto rolls through to his feet.

The two go again, and Kalisto wristlocks to CHOP Mendoza over and over. Kalisto then goes acrobatic, showing off even, and arm-drags! But Mendoza handsprings through to stay on his feet! Mendoza bats Kalisto into an arm-drag but Kalisto arm-drags back. They both dropkick and handspring, and are now head to head! Miami loves this,a nd the two even shake hands in respect. Fans rally with “LUCHA! LUCHA!” while Mendoza and Kalisto tag out. Carrillo and Metalik show off already as they enter the ring with handsprings. Carrillo and Metalik tie up and Metalik waistlocks. Carrillo pries free to get a wristlock to hammerlock. Metalik headlocks back, but Carrillo spins Metalik around for his own headlock. Metalik powers out and Carrillo shows off his agility again!

Things speed up and Carrillo gets clear of the handspring. Carrillo dodges but Metalik monkey flips him, only for Carrillo to handspring through! Metalik also handsprings, and Miami is still loving this! Another “LUCHA! LUCHA!” chant begins as the two shake hands. But then Metalik kicks low and fireman’s carries Carrillo over. Tag to Kalisto before Metalik dumps Carrillo down. Kalisto then knee-boards to senton! Kalisto drags Carrillo back to tag Metalik, and holds Carrillo down for Metalik’s knee drop onto the arm! Cover, ONE! Metalik keeps on Carrillo with a chinlock, but Carrillo scrambles up. Kalisto tags in and climbs up to hop down and kick the arm. Kalisto tags back to Metalik, and Metalik kicks Carrillo’s arm, too.

Metalik snapmares Carrillo into a chinlock. Carrillo endures and fans rally up. Carrillo fights his way up and out but Metalik throws him down by his hair. Metalik stomps Carrillo then drags him over to tag Kalisto. Kalisto drops ax handles on the arm then covers, ONE! Kalisto keeps on Carrillo with another chinlock. Carrillo endures again as fans build back to a rally. Carrillo fights free a second time, but runs into the heel kick! Cover, TWO! Kalisto grows annoyed, but Carrillo knees him low. Carrillo whips Kalisto to the corner and hits a clothesline, then tags in Mendoza. Mendoza and Carrillo whip Kalisto to double hip toss! Mendoza and Carrillo combine, wheelbarrow victory splash! Cover, TWO! Mendoza keeps on Kalisto with an armlock on the mat. Kalisto endures and fans rally yet again.

Kalisto fights up and out but Mendoza knees low. Mendoza wrenches Kalisto and tags Carrillo. Carrillo returns the favor to Lucha House Party with double stomps to Kalisto’s arm! Cover, TWO! Carrillo keeps his cool and drags Kalisto up for a wrench. Kalisto endures and fights back as fans rally with “LUCHA! LUCHA!” But Carrillo scoops and slams Kalisto hard! Carrillo smiles, but gets a kick from the mat! And then boots! Tag to Metalik, and Kalisto boosts Metalik for a missile dropkick! Cover, TWO! Metalik keeps Carrillo down with a mounted hammerlock. Carrillo endures and fights up again, throwing body shots. Metalik knees low over and over and brings Carrillo back down. Metalik shifts to a partial camel clutch, but Carrillo still endures.

Carrillo gets up but gets a CHOP, and Metalik whips him corner to corner. Metalik corner clotheslines, then runs the ropes to dropkick Carrillo down! Cover, TWO! Carrillo keeps in this, but Metalik has him up for more CHOPS! Metalik whips but Carrillo springboards for the flying headbutt! Both men are down but the “LUCHA! LUCHA!” echoes out. Both men crawl, hot tags to Kalisto and Mendoza! Kalisto springboards but Mendoza gets under to lariat and dropkick! Mendoza whips Kalisto but Kalisto reverses. But Kalisto misses in the corner as Mendoza slips out to the apron. Mendoza hurries to climb and walk the ropes to dropkick Kalisto down now! Cover but Metalik breaks it!

Metalik dodges Carrillo once but not the second time! Carrillo swings but misses, Kalisto hits a Neuralizer enziguri! Mendoza runs to springboard enziguri Kalisto! Cover, TWO!! Kalisto still lives and Mendoza is furious! But Miami loves this as Mendoza stalks Kalisto. Mendoza drags Kalisto up but gets a jawbreaker! Kalisto staggers back to tag in Metalik! Mendoza runs in but gets a swing kick from Metalik! Metalik walks into a mule kick, to give a SUPERKICK! Carrillo tags in as Mendoza falls back! Carrillo kicks and whips but Metalik reverses. Metalik runs in but is put on the apron. Metalik kicks Carrillo but Carrillo kicks back! Carrillo uses the corner to rebound out, but Metalik gets under to SUPERKICK him back! Metalik climbs the same corner, but Carrillo clubs him back!

Carrillo climbs to join Metalik but Metailk fights him. Metalik jumps for a SUPER STEINER!! Cover, but Mendoza breaks it! Mendoza has Kalisto but Kalisto elbows back. Kalisto runs, Mendoza follows and enziguris Kalisto out! Mendoza runs and FLIES to take out the Lucha Dragon! Metalik kicks Carrillo down! Metalik climbs again, MOONSAULT, to boots! Carrillo hurries to put Metalik in place and climb up himself, for a TWISTING SPALSH! Cover, Carrillo and Mendoza win!!

Winners: Humberto Carrillo & Raul Mendoza, Carrillo pinning

These five luchadores brought the heat in Miami! But in the end, it was Ultimo Ninja and his NXT tag team partner who won out in the end! Will this lead them both to bigger and better things as we head for SummerSlam?

The Singh Brothers are seething backstage.

THE Brian Kendrick and Akira Tozawa have their Boscar trophy! Those two don’t deserve awards! The Singhs are the best Bollywood actors and the best team in 205 Live. They’ve played Kendrick’s game long enough, but now he and Tozawa must play theirs. It will be a tag team match to settle the score! Both Samir & Sunil promise it will be lights, camera and some Bollywood action. But will the summer blockbuster they hope for end up giving Kendrick and Tozawa the spotlight instead?

205 Live takes a closer look at NXT’s Isaiah “Swerve” Scott.

From Evolve Wrestling and beyond, Isaiah Scott brings the swerve. Swerve is confidence and style. That is his advantage over everyone else in the WWE Performance Center, in NXT, and now in 205 Live. The former Evolve Champion is going up against THE Cruiserweight Champion, can Swerve swerve Drew Gulak in this blast from the past?

Jack Gallagher tweets respect to Chad Gable.

“The aim of performing at the highest level is not to be good just once, but to build upon each experience. As positive as the response to my contest against Mr. Gable was, I assure you, the best of Jack Gallagher, and WWE 205 Live, is still yet to come.” When and where will we see Gentleman Jack’s best? And against who?

Oney Lorcan VS Tony Isner!

The Boston Brawler has repaired himself after that rough #AnythingGoes match with Ariya Daivari, and is ready for more! How much of a fight is his opponent in for tonight?

The bell rings and Lorcan has his dukes up with Isner. They approach and “Tony Ice” throws hands on Lorcan! But then Lorcan gets his hands on Isner, and puts him in the corner for CHOPS and European Uppercuts! Lorcan bumps Isner off buckles to then whip corner to corner hard! Fans fire up with Lorcan as he runs corner to corner for a big back elbow! Lorcan keeps moving to give Isner another elbow, then a blasting EuroUpper! The Fury of 205 Live grits his teeth and powers himself up as he grabs Isner, for the Half ‘n’ Half! Cover, Lorcan wins!

Winner: Oney Lorcan, by pinfall

Lorcan puts “furious” in fast and furious, and that’s what this match was from the Boston Brawler. How much longer will Lorcan have to wait for a fight with the champ?

The Cruiserweight Champion, Drew Gulak, speaks.

“Last week, I wondered who would dare step to me, knowing what pain and punishment awaits.” It’s no surprise to Gulak that absolutely no one from the 205 Live locker room did. So instead, he faces someone not from 205 Live, Raw or SmackDown, but from someone from Gulak’s past. It’s someone who is now considered the future of NXT in Isaiah Scott. Gulak trained Scott, showed him the way, and shared the fundamentals of survival. He probably thinks Gulak is the same man from before, but he’s not. Gulak has rebuilt himself, has evolved since his days in Evolve, and he’s now the Cruiserweight Champion! Gulak commends Swerve’s courage, but Swerve has a lot more to learn. What harsh lesson will Gulak teach Swerve in the main event, up next?

Drew Gulak VS Isaiah “Swerve” Scott!

The cruel Cruiserweight Champion said his piece, but now Swerve gets a chance to respond with actions. Will Swerve be able to breakout into 205 Live to match his impact in NXT? Or will Gulak make him simply tap out?

The bell rings and Gulak shotgun dropkicks Swerve right away! Then he throws Swerve with a headlock takeover. Swerve gets up and pries free to wristlock Gulak down. Gulak counters with headscissors and brings Swerve down. Fans rally for “NXT! NXT!” as Swerve uses his legs to fight Gulak off. Gulak waits for Swerve to get up, and the two tie up again. Swerve gets the wristlock and brings Gulak down. Gulak gets up out of the rear mount but Swerve headlocks. Gulak shoves Swerve off and Swerve tumbles through the ropes! Swerve lands on his feet and walks it off, and Gulak just waits for him to return while smirking smugly. Swerve returns and ties up with Gulak again. Gulak chinbars but Swerve has a wristlock. Swerve lifts Gulak with a shoulder breaker but Gulak fights out.

Gulak has hair but Swerve arm-drags him down. Swerve has the wristlock but Gulak slips out. They go around with standing switches while fans duel. Gulak half nelsons to a snapmare but Swerve rolls and evades to kip up. Swerve smirks as he waistlocks and rolls Gulak, but then goes Eddy Gordo to headscissor and dropkick Gulak out! Fans cheer while Swerve waits for Gulak now. Gulak returns and baits Swerve to headbutt low. Gulak throws Swerve over the top rope but Swerve handsprings to land on his feet! Fans love that but Gulak is upset. Gulak runs out but Swerve evades again. Swerve baits Gulak into his rope flip splash! Cover, TWO! Swerve keeps his cool as he brings Gulak up.

Swerve wristlocks Gulak into a corner, but the ref calls for the ropebreak. Isaiah lets up to then grab Gulak again. Swerve has the fingers and elbow while fans duel. Gulak endures the joint manipulation and sits up, but Swerve holds on. Fans rally as Swerve waistlocks but Gulak standing switches. Swerve elbows Gulak off him and runs, but Gulak reels him in. Swerve unhooks using a leg and ROCKS Gulak with that right! Cover, TWO! Gulak survives that punch and Swerve might’ve even hurt himself with that one. Swerve shakes feeling back into his hand while Gulak shakes the cobwebs out. Swerve brings Gulak up for more hands in the corner, and an off-hand CHOP! Gulak grabs hair but Swerve turns it back on him to snapmare Gulak down for a knee drop! Cover, ONE!

Fans duel harder as Swerve keeps shaking that hand out. Swerve has Gulak in a facelock and throws body shots and kicks. Gulak clubs that bad hand! Gulak haymakers Swerve out of the ring and takes a moment to catch his breath. The ring count starts but Gulak goes out the side. Gulak comes around the way to throw Swerve into barriers! Fans boo and cheer as Gulak has Swerve again. Gulak CHOPS Swerve right on the announce desk! Gulak throws Swerve into the apron and Swerve flops to the floor. So Gulak Canadian racks Swerve, to Crucifix Bomb him into a post!! Swerve is down and Gulak is grimacing as he drags Swerve back into the ring. Cover, TWO!! Swerve still lives but Gulak seems to enjoy knowing he gets to hurt Swerve more.

Gulak has a leg while fans duel. Swerve fights as best as he can but Gulak still gets him in the modified Half Crab. Gulak stands on Swerve’s head, but Swerve uses that to pop out. Gulak and Swerve throw clubbing hands but it’s Gulak who backs off. He whips Swerve corner to corner but Swerve reverses. Swerve walks into a CHOP, and then Gulak hops up to jump for a clothesline! Cover, TWO! Gulak grows annoyed now but he goes right at the limbs again. Gulak grinds Swerve down with an armlock but fans rally up. Swerve fights his way up, even with a bad arm. Swerve gets to his feet to throw forearms, even with the bad arm. Gulak clubs Swerve back and bumps him off buckles.

Gulak hoists Swerve to the top rope, then clubs him hard on the back again. He drags Swerve out in the Crucifix again, but Swerve flips out to jawbreaker back! Then Swerve cartwheels on one hand, to run and uppercut Gulak in the corner! Swerve throws Gulak down and hops up, flying uppercut! Cover, TWO! Gulak gets to the corner while Swerve grows frustrated. Gulak boots Swerve and hops up, but Swerve STEINERS him off the corner! Swerve fires up, bad hand and all, and Miami is with him! Gulak stands, Swerve runs for the killshot calf kick! Cover, TWO!! Swerve was so close and yet still so far from finishing Gulak! Fans know “This is Awesome!” and Swerve feeds off that energy. He uses his good arm to half nelson, but Gulak goes after the bad arm!

Gulak scoops, to the dragon sleeper! Body scissors complete the GuLOCK! Swerve flails and scrambles, his long legs get the ropebreak! The ref counts and Gulak lets go at 2. Fans cheer as Swerve and Gulak get up again. Gulak goes over but Swerve puts him on the apron. But Gulak has the bad hand! Swerve punches free, sweeps the legs, and SUPERKICKS Gulak point blank! Gulak hangs on the edge, Swerve double stomps him down! Swerve puts Gulak back in and climbs up top! Swerve aims and fans fire up, KILLER DOUBLE STOMPS!! Cover, TWO!?! Gulak survives and fans are loving “205! 205!” for this crossover! Swerve refocuses as he goes to Gulak.

Swerve drags Gulak up but Gulak body shots free. Gulak whips but Swerve reverses. Gulak dodges but so does Swerve, only for Gulak to sunset flip him from below! TWO, and Swerve manages to tilt-o-whirl slam Gulak, into an armbar! Gulak flails and reaches, but Swerve’s own bad arm is part of the hold. Gulak’s two good arms beat Swerve’s one, and he has the bad arm by the fingers. But Swerve clubs away! Gulak SLAPS back, and now it’s a brawl! Gulak wrenches, clubs and combines cravat with fisherman for a SUPLEX! Swerve is dazed, Gulak drags him up into the torture rack! Cyclone Crash neckbreaker!! Cover, Gulak wins!

Winner: Drew Gulak, by pinfall

And that is why he is our WWE Cruiserweight Champion! Gulak grits it out against a true breakout star and still stands tall. And Gulak makes sure Swerve knows it as he holds the title up in his face. Who steps to Gulak next to feel the pain?

My Thoughts:

205 Live has been on a roll, so naturally bringing in NXT superstars makes it even better! The irony is, I just hope Isaiah “Swerve” Scott isn’t stuck in the Cruiserweight Division. Granted, other stars have been able to move up and out, but not with much backing from ol’ Vince “Needs Beef” McMahon. Raul Mendoza needs to just be here already, though. His tag match with Carrillo VS Lucha House Party was a great opener! Why can’t the Cruiserweight Division get tag titles? These tag matches are always great, and there always seem to be tag rivalries, titles just make sense. Kendrick & Tozawa VS Singh Brothers is obviously going to be another one of those feuds, and as great as next week’s match and subsequent matches will be, something more than pride needs to be on the line.

The “Unsanctioned” Drake Maverick VS Mike Kanellis match is going to be awesome! Especially with the story elements in it. Mike winning gets him a Cruiserweight Championship match, but I can’t see him winning with Gulak being such a great Heel. But also being unsanctioned, I bet Maria helps so that at least she and Mike make-up and stop the emasculation on Raw. At the same time, could this be a moment for Mike to go Face? It’s possible. Then our amazing main event, Gulak VS Swerve was as good as a title match itself! Swerve’s hand being hurt must be for the match, it gives great story for Gulak to go after it and to hold Swerve back through the rest of the match. Swerve may not have won the Breakout Tournament in NXT, but he’s totally going to be a star, just wait and see.

My Score: 8.5/10

Andrew’s TNA iMPACT! Results & Match Ratings: 4.18.2024

Motor City Machine Guns either go out on their backs, or head to Rebellion as champs! Lets see how they finish their current run in TNA!

Published

on

No burying the lead here! The Main Event is The System versus Motor City Machine Guns, and it’s the Go Home episode before Rebellion! So we’re guaranteed a damn good tag match, and we should get either new wrinkles, or ways to keep the storylines cooking going into the Pay-per-View.

With all the rumors and innuendo about the Guns being on their way out, I think we all assume that MCMG is losing, but my inner fanboy is still excited.

Ratings:

  • Little Guido w/New FBI vs Hammerstone: Hammerstone wins via Torture Rack – SQUASH
  • LSG vs Joe Hendry: Hendry wins via Standing Ovation – SQUASH
  • Mustafa Ali & GYV vs Cody Deaner, Jake Something & Rhyno: Ali wins via 450 Splash – ** 3/4
  • Rosemary w/Havok vs Jody Threat w/Dani Luna: Rosemary wins via Spear – ***
  • Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) vs The System (Eddie Edwards & Brian Myers) w/Alisha Edwards: System wins via Roster Cut + Knee Party – *** 1/4

Results:

So we kick off the match with Josh coming out to commentary again to watch Hammerstone’s match. They really need a new way to try and keep heat without reusing the same tired gimmick of “ring side seat” to a Squash match.

Little Guido w/New FBI vs Hammerstone

Guido tries to shoot the half, but Hammerstone shrugs him off, lifts him like a child and runs him into a corner, few short shots and then just tosses him across the ring. Hammer gets a little distracted talking smack to Josh and eats a foot, but then tosses Guido with the ole Sack of Shit move and keeps working over Guido.

Hammer shoves Clayton, and provokes him to push him back right in front of the referee. She ejects them, Guido tries to take advantage but when he goes for the pinfall Hammer kicks out immediately and presses Guido out of thing through the ropes. Continues to dog walk Guido, puts the head gear on the ECW Original and then Torture Racks him while staring directly at Josh, and of course picks up the submission victory.

LSG vs Joe Hendry

Hendry cuts a little promo, mentioning the Fat Uncle Phil joke…something about shopping at the TOP Dollar Store. Solid mic work.

LSG is a damn good local talent, he’s been seen in ROH and AEW in the past (perhaps others, but that’s what comes to mind immediately for me), but we all know this is an enhancement match. A few nice chain wrestling spots early, but Hendry uses his power to stop the smaller wrestler, Sack of Shit into Standing Ovation and the match is over quickly.

Mustafa Ali & GYV vs Cody Deaner, Jake Something & Rhyno

Well okay, having Deaner ask the crowd if they wanted a 3v2 or their third member…RHYNO…is pretty much a no brainer in Philly. But at least the gimmick isn’t quite as cringe as I expected.

Jake starts with Zack Gibson and throws him around. Jake goes for the tag and Deaner asks the crowd who Jake should tag, and the crowd picks Rhyno. Rhyno Whips Gibson into a corner, Drake actually softens the impact, allowing Gibson to fire back, tag out, but Rhyno levels both GYV members and then even knocks Ali off the apron. Rhyno tries to call to the crowd to tag in Deaner and that goes over like a fart in church. He tags him in anyway, and the crowd is kinda dead and doing whatever it wants after the obvious ECW chants when Rhyno tagged in.

GYV take a couple lumps but they of course start to work over Deaner and capture some momentum. Solid tandem work from GYV, they cut off Deaner from making a tag and goad Jake a little to cause the ref to block off the babyfaces so the heels can take a few shortcuts. Cody eventually makes the tag to Rhyno, hot tag, he tries to set up the Gore but the GYV manage to stop him in his tracks and hit an Enzuigiri to daze the Man Beast, he falls to his corner and Jake tags himself in. Jake literally runs them all over, tags in Cody and Launches him from the Top Rope into Zack Gibson. Ali makes the save and Jake tries to get his hands on Ali, but the GYV keep throwing themselves at him, literally. The triple team finally gets the best of Jake, they hit 3 Dives and then post Jake, so they gather around Cody like hyenas.

They forgot about Rhyno, he’s set up for a Gore, he Gores Drake, Gibson and Ali take out Rhyno, but then Cody starts to fight back. Ali stops Deaner’s offense with an Avalanche Sunset Bomb, then hits his 450 Splash. Jake barely misses being able to break up the pin.

Rosemary w/Havok vs Jody Threat w/Dani Luna

Jody tries to start quickly with Shoulder Tackles, Lariats and Scoop Slams, and it does seem somewhat effective. Rosemary is having trouble finding offense against the intensity, but she keeps kicking out. Shotgun Dropkick finally gives Rosemary an opening, she goes into full mount and rains down strikes. Rosemary shoves Jody into a corner and Bites her in the corner. Jody tries to fight out, they go across and Rosemary catches her with the legs and puts her in the Upside Down. Splash in the corner from Rosemary, Exploder Suplex and Jody is eating a lot of offense.

Rosemary looks like she’s caught after she gets tripped up into the ropes and Jody goes for her Rope Knee into the German, but Rosemary dodges. Rosemary hits her own suplex and pulls out a beautiful Last Chancery! I haven’t seen her do that in a long time. Jody manages to fight to the ropes, Rosemary is a little slow to capitalize and eats a Pump Kick. Rosemary goes flying into the ropes, Jody hits the Double Knees into the German this time for 2, and they trade a few haymakers after that. Jody folds Rosemary with a low Lariat, Zombie rise spot a few times, Jody goes for a pinfall and Rosemary kicks out.

Havok jumps up on the apron, Dani meets her and they decide to step down, but the distraction was enough. Jody turns around and eats a Spear. Rosemary wins!

Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) vs The System (Eddie Edwards & Brian Myers) w/Alisha Edwards

Eddie and Shelley start off, and its a very simple slow start. Mostly an early stalemate, the typical Japanese style the TNA seem to love to employ. Starters tag out, but then Shelley with the blind tag, Sabin Baseball Slides out, picks Eddie’s ankle and sends his face bouncing off the apron, while Shelley sneaks up being Myers and they hit a tandem move before we cut to commercial. Off of the commercial it looks like Eddie and Myers regained control. But a nice Jawbreaker from Shelley sends Eddie falling back into the MCMG corner. Dragon Screws to both legs from Sabin and Shelley, and we get the Dragon Screw dissection spot for the Guns.

Myers gets sick of things, tries to get involved, but Simultaneous Figure Fours from the MCMG makes The System look silly. Alisha does the classic “push the rope forward” gimmick to assist Eddie in breaking the hold. She keeps chirping at Shelley until she finally grabs his foot. Shelley doesn’t take kindly, tries to grab her by the hair but she gets away, Shelley eats a strike and falls back to the ropes so Lish can just throttle him with the rope, Sabin walks over and acts like he’s going to PK her and the look of disgust on her face is hilarious, like “how dare he threaten to kick her”. Would I be mad is Masha decides to team with Lish and they win the Knockouts Tag titles? No, because the Knockouts Tags are trash. But I still prefer Lish as valet/manager.

Shelley starts fighting back after another commercial break, Eddie tries to cut him off, but Sabin clocks Eddie and Shelley manages to make the tag and Sabin comes in. Lights up both System members, Kick off Tornado DDT, into a Running Gamengiri. Eddie tries to counter but Shelley assists, tandem strikes, Double Baseball Slide into the classic MCMG spot 5 Hole Dive! Keeping up with the classics Shelley stacks the System members on each other and hit the Missile Dropkick/Flatliner spot. As the Guns are rolling, Sabin accidentally catches Sabin with his foot and The System take control! They hit their pieces of the System Overload spot, but Sabin kicks out. Roster Cut attempt from Myers, but Shelley is back. High Speed Dirt, Machine Gun Sandwich, but Lish grabs Shelley’s foot when they’re setting up Skull and Bones. Shelley gets dropped on the turnbuckle and thrown out, Sabin eats the Roster Cut followed up with Boston Knee Party and System retains!

Its a little weird to have had the two commercial cuts and the fact there’s still Nic Nemeth to follow. So it feels a little flat, I hope this wasn’t their swan song match, because it was nice to see some classic spots, but it was entirely too abbreviated.

Nemeth comes out, goes into the crowd and finds a kid with a kendo stick and borrows a beer from someone, so he does a bit of a Sandman tribute. Moose cuts off his promo basically immediately. He throws out the “can’t beat the system” line again, and Nic rolls with the punches well. Moose uses a few cute analogies about Nic having a failure laden past, but Nemeth bites back and its really damn good. He says he can see it in Moose’s eyes that he thinks he’s getting in the ring with Dolph Ziggler, but no, there is no more old Dolph Ziggler, just the new Nic Nemeth. And Moose’s cool seems to be slightly shaken after those words. Good promo.

Overall Score: 6.5/10

So this was okay, if it didn’t end as strongly as it did, I would’ve rated this much lower. Two squash matches in the beginning, reusing the Josh comes out to the announce table to watch trope is boring, hell even Clayton’s shove to Hammerstone was super lame looking. The Deaner match was luke warm at best, but things picked up around the Rosemary match.

Lets also not overlook the segments with ASH & Xia, Jonathan Gresham’s whole deal and EY having to return to the violence/sickness/world class maniac, whatever you want to call it, were all great building blocks. This definitely wasn’t what I would call a strong Go Home, but it didn’t hurt things for Rebellion. The whole injury of Cardona was addressed, which honestly sounded weird since Jordynne basically said she was expecting them to have a backup plan so she has a backup plan. I don’t really like how that video package came across.

But who knows, all I know is, this wasn’t an awful episode, it just wasn’t really strong either.  Here’s to hoping Rebellion Saturday is still strong.

Mark Sterling speaks.

“If you ask AI to create the perfect professional wrestler, it wouldn’t even come close to you. If wrestling is a body business, then you’re a multinational corporation. Biology defying symmetry, no fat, all muscle, no waste. As functional as you are aesthetic. High-flying? You got it. Ground ‘n’ pound? You got that, too. Striking, brawling, submission, technical, there is not a single style you have not perfected. For the last 20 years, you’ve been one of the most consistent and proficient wrestling specimens for any company that’s been willing to throw money at you and begged you to stay. And now, it’s time for them to beg for mercy.

“You are Tony Nese, and you are a Premier Athlete.”

Now Mark Sterling & The Premier Athletes are here in person.

They stand backstage, Sterling’s guys in matching tracksuits, and he says the last time he looked into the camera, he told everyone he had a plan. The very next day, they enacted that plan. Sterling took them off the road, they entered a professional fight camp. They got the best coaches, best trainers, best doctors, and these three started to do what they do best: go to work. Supercard of Honor, against two former ROH TV Champions, PA got an impressive victory. Fruits of their labor. Ariya Daivari is back better than ever. Josh Woods is bigger and better than he was when he won the National Championship. And Tony Nese is in the best shape of his life, which is saying something.

In fact, what’re we even talking about? These three are the most underappreciated athletes in the company. They walk like stars, they move like stars, they present themselves like stars, and by the end of this year, they will be champions. Supercard was just phase one of this plan. Phase two… starts tonight. Then just what happens when the Premier Athletes start making moves?

The question is: where is Johnny? Uh, recovering from that vicious attack by Dalton Castle and his “special boy,” Paul Walter-Whatever! Taya is gonna call up Fran Dreischer to file a complaint! For someone so TV Ready, Castle and Paul sure don’t look it. So yes, Johnny is rehabbing. Wait he’s in rehab? Ew, no, who do you think they are? Johnny is rehabbing the abs! Lexi is with the First Lady of Wrestling and her baby boys, the Diamond in the Rough wearing the stolen mask from Serpentico. Lexi congratulates them on their win over Spanish Announce Project at Supercard, but it seems there might be some unfinished business. Are they ever going to give Seprentico his masks back? Karter takes the mask off to say hell no! Griff says Serpentico’s masks mean a lot to him and his lucha libre culture. But uh, they don’t care! It got them the attention that they deserve, and those wins have been a stepping stone in this company.

If Serpentico wants his masks back, he doesn’t need to trick them into a match. They’re happy to beat the crap outta him anytime, anywhere! Maria loves the confidence, and says Griff will need it in his Proving Grounds match against THE ROH World Champion, Mark Briscoe. Griff is all fired up, will the Ivy League MVP pass the test with flying colors? Or will he fail to #ManUp?

Comoroto is big and bad but this is a beast of a different breed! Will nothing stop the modern day minotaur from making ROH his domain? Will Jacoby Watts’ teachings ever pay off for Comoroto?

Backstage interview with Nick Comoroto.

Lexi is with Mr. Freakbeast as he returns backstage, and she asks him what his strategy will be moving forward after this tough loss. Jacoby Watts walks in to say, “Turn the page. Start a new chapter. Nothing changes if nothing changes, Nick. It’s a harsh reality. But I am your answer. Your beacon of hope in the darkness. Follow me and I will lead you into the light! For I am Jacoby Watts, the one and only, praise be to he, and he is me.” Watts waxes poetic while making himself the focus, but will Comoroto accept his guidance?

The Sussex County Chicken won this title after a war with Eddie Kingston at Supercard, and those two are still going to be friends taking on The House of Black this Sunday! Maria is upset but there’s nothing she can do, her baby boy wasn’t man enough to stop the NEW ROH World Champion! Will Mark continue to carry on his brother’s legacy and become one of the best champions in ROH history?

My Thoughts:

A very good episode of ROH for being 92 minutes. I still skipped some very clear filler, but Marti Belle got a good showing in her loss to Frost and The Dark Order got a good match out of Zak & Frank. Cruz, Damian & Savion got an okay showing but c’mon, they were against Archer & The Righteous, those guys have been running through everyone. It hasn’t really led them to anything yet, but maybe after we get undisputed AEW & ROH World Trios Champions after Dynasty, Archer & Righteous challenge the winners. And real good wins for Bryan Keith and Lee Johnson, each guy looking good towards midcard titles at some point.

Really good match from Infantry VS Savages, with the Savages being a bit more Heelish this time. Good win for Infantry, but I didn’t think The Premier Athletes would be going after them first. And I didn’t expect Faces like Keith, Lee and Briscoe to run out to get at them. Maybe the Premier Athletes can also position themselves to go after the trios titles after Dynasty. If The Acclaimed win, they’ll need Heel opponents. Archer & Righteous can play either side, but fans really like Archer so I kinda want him and Righteous to be Faces when facing Bang Bang Gang.

Good match and good win for Abadon over Allysin. Good win for Kiera, Leyla & Adora, though things got a little sloppy in the middle, Leyla’s timing wasn’t quite there. Athena & Billie are both Heels, so while Queen Aminata is in the mix, the champion she doesn’t choose still needs a good Face challenger so you can take your pick of the winners from tonight. Really good match from Mortos and Comoroto, and Mortos winning also helped serve Comoroto’s story with Watts. Watts keeps insisting he’s the answer, but this has to lead to Comoroto breaking free and beating Watts up for his arrogance.

Good promo from Maria, Griff & Karter, and they just kinda copy-pasted Mark Briscoe’s promo from Collision that same Saturday. Really good match for Griff against Mark but of course Mark wins. Mark getting involved with Premier Athletes, maybe Woods or Nese get a shot at Mark only to lose and be Mark’s solid first defense. Not sure who could be a more prolonged feud with Mark, but there are plenty of possibilities, and I’m just happy to see him showing up on ROH TV as the ROH World Champion should.

My Score: 8.5/10
