Kevin Owens speaks for the WWE Universe!
The only thing we’ve gotten from this new McMahon policy is MORE SHANE! And no one wants that! Shane tried to silence Kevin but he refused to stop. Shane claiming to be Best in the World is an insult to every superstar in the company. Security chased Kevin off, but Kevin wouldn’t stay gone. He made sure that when Shane least expected it, he got a STUNNER!
But now, Shane has security ready to apprehend Kevin should things get out of hand again. Kevin walks through the door and sees Shane. Shane heard all that yammering, and has an idea: the SmackDown Town Hall. Everyone and anyone can get their complaints out. Shane will hear them all out, but he will not tolerate insubordination. Kevin sees what Shane is up to. But Kevin says he works for the WWE, not Shane. But the WWE is under the McMahon Family. Shane is the boss, and he will not have Kevin spreading lies. So Shane personally tells Kevin he has the night off. Go somewhere else and enjoy yourself. Kevin heads back out the door, but will he listen to Shane’s orders?
The SmackDown Town Hall Meeting begins!
Superstars from The New Day to the Kabuki Warriors and even Buddy Murphy are present on stage while they wait for Shane McMahon to appear. “The BEST, in the WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORLD~” gets his proper introduction, and perhaps his longest yet, before the meeting officially begins.
“As you can see, Kevin Owens-” Fans cut Shane off with boos and chants of “You Suck! You Suck!” But Shane repeats that Kevin has the night off and is barred from the building. And now we have our first ever SmackDown Town Hall. This is for any superstar that is respectful to Shane to air grievances. Who wants to speak first? The various superstars seem hesitant, but one man who doesn’t is ROMAN REIGNS! Bayley and the New Day bark for the Big Dog. Roman says it straight: no one respects Shane. And if Shane wants diplomacy, how about he kiss Roman’s ass? Superstars like Charlotte Flair and Randy Orton are a little surprised. Shane says that was not respectful, so now Roman will be fined.
Shane wants more superstars to speak, and picks Charlotte to speak. Charlotte defends Shane, Roman’s words were uncalled for. But from one wrestling royal family to another, Charlotte thanks Shane for all the opportunities she has been given. It makes Charlotte sick that Kevin would take advantage of Shane! But then LIV MORGAN speaks up! Charlotte, stop being phony. Is there anything real about Charlotte? Oh snap~! Wait who is this child? Does she work here? Oh right, because everyone is borne with a blue tongue. And Charlotte forgot about Liv until Kevin mentioned Liv in a burp. Shane keeps the peace and moves things along. Shane picks out the #BestKeptSecret, Buddy Murphy.
Murphy knows Kevin mentioned him, but he doesn’t need anyone else to fight his battles. Kevin should keep Murphy’s name out of his mouth, or he’ll slap the taste out of Kevin’s mouth. Shane loves this fire, he’ll talk with Murphy later. Shane also picks out Apollo Crews. Apollo steps up and does have something to say. Hopefully this is healthy dialogue, but… “Everybody, including myself, agrees with what Kevin Owens said last week.” Except for Zelina Vega and Andrade Almas. Don’t kiss up to the fans, Apollo. If he wants a “healthy” conversation and an opportunity, prove it in the ring. Almas tells Apollo that tonight, he’ll be pinned in the center of the ring!
Elias then strums his electric guitar to introduce himself, and take his turn speaking. The “Greatest Acquisition in SmackDown History” is interrupted by the New Day. Big E tells Elias he is the greatest jackass in SmackDown history! Keep it clean, guys, c’mon. But Kofi Kingston will not agree with Kevin, #TheNorthRemembers, but there are some good points he’s made. How long did it take Kofi to be WWE Champion? TOO LONG! Shane says they need to cut Kofi off, but Kofi says no one is getting opportunities! There goes the mic. Fans boo this oppression of free speech but Shane plays dumb. This Town Hall went great for the first time, and thanks for participating. This concludes the meeting. But was anything really settled under this?
Cesaro stays back to speak up. What brings the Swiss Cyborg of Raw over here? Wild Card rule allows Cesaro to challenge Aleister Black to a rematch from Extreme Rules! He hopes Aleister will pick, a fight, with him. And obviously that means tonight. Shane likes the idea, and makes it reality! Cesaro VS Black, who wins in this gritty rematch?
Shane continues to brag that he doesn’t have to rule with an iron fist. But he does get another STUNNER!! Kevin defies the authority again, and mocks Shane’s shuffle. What will be the consequences of such defiance?
Aleister Black VS Cesaro!
Both men wanted a fight and they got one at Extreme Rules. But the fighting is far from over as they do it again here on SmackDown! Will the Embodiment of the End make the Swiss Cyborg #FadetoBlack twice in one week?

SmackDown goes picture in picture as Aleister stares a hole through Cesaro.

Aleister is on Cesaro in a corner with those kicks, then kicks him against the ropes. Cesaro forearms back but Aleister keeps on kicking. Cesaro keeps his cool as he wraps Aleister up in a chinlock. Then he adds an arm of Aleister’s for a partial straitjacket. Aleister endures and fights out to give more kicks. Aleister whips but Cesaro reverses, only to run into an elbow. Aleister hops up and hits the meteora! Cesaro is reeling as Aleister grits his teeth. Aleister throws forearms and uppercuts of his own. He whips but Cesaro reverses, to pop-up uppercut! Cover, TWO! Aleister checks his teeth but gets a basement uppercut! Cover, TWO! Aleister even pushed Cesaro’s face as he kicked out. Cesaro wraps back on and has the cobra clutch. Aleister fights his way up but Cesaro knees him over and over. Cesaro wrangles Aleister down and grinds him into the mat.
Aleister fights up again and kicks at Cesaro’s legs. He runs but back into a sleeper hold! SmackDown returns to single picture as Cesaro leans his full weight on Aleister. Fans rally up as Aleister endures again. Aleister fights up and arm-drags out, to bobs ‘n’ weave and counter punch. Cesaro knees low but runs into Aleister’s elbows! Aleister fires off, sweeps and thrusts the knee! He kips up and fans fire up with him! Aleister runs, quebrada! Cover, TWO! Cesaro escapes and Aleister is angry, but not without focus. Aleister waits for Cesaro to stand, but Cesaro gets clear to give back an uppercut! Cesaro throws more uppercuts, runs and BOOTS Aleister down! Cover, TWO! Into a Crossface! Winner: Aleister Black, by pinfall
That’s a 2-0 sweep for the Dutch Destroyer! Will Cesaro want to keep this going? Or is Aleister moving on to even tougher fights?
Dolph Ziggler finds Shane backstage.
The Show-Off knows Shane got got by Kevin, but tonight is about teaching Kevin a lesson. It should be Ziggler. No, Kevin got away. But if Kevin wants to give the people what they want, then he should want this match, too. Make it the main event of the show! Well if that’s the case, Shane will make the match. The Best in the World and Ziggler want to air some grievances on Kevin, but will it go their way?
SmackDown shares exclusive footage from after Extreme Rules.
After losing the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, Daniel Bryan was going crazy. His mission to #SaveTagTeamWrestling failed! He followed his dream, he tried to elevate the “jokers” to a main event status, but he failed! So if Bryan wants to change the world and save everyone, he has to aim higher. Bryan has to go where Bryan has not gone before. He knows now what he must do. But what does this mean for his apparent announcement later tonight?
Liv Morgan VS Charlotte Flair!
The Juvenile Delinquent made her presence known during the SmackDown Town Hall Meeting, and did so by confronting the Queen! Will she pay for her insolence? Or will she make the show #SmackDownLIV with a huge return victory?
The bell rings and Liv circles with Charlotte. They tie up and Charlotte just shoves Liv down. Charlotte doesn’t take Liv serious for a second, but then Liv goes Matrix to dodge her! Liv fires off forearms and then hits a huricanrana! She keeps moving to dropkick Charlotte down! Charlotte scrambles to a corner and Liv waves. Liv and Charlotte stand, and Liv ducks to waistlock. Charlotte elbows out to club Liv to a corner. Charlotte stomps Liv and then pulls her against the ropes. She lets up at the ref’s count of 4 with a “WOO~!” Charlotte drags Liv up to CHOP her! Those Flair CHOPS echo out and then Charlotte back suplexes. Liv slips out to enziguri Charlotte down!
Liv hits a swinging stomp onto Charlotte’s back! She drags Charlotte to a cover, TWO! Charlotte’s tougher than that as a nine-time Women’s Champion. But Liv keeps moving, huricanrana blocked into a powerbomb! Charlotte Figure Fours to the Figure Eight! Liv taps, Charlotte wins!
Winner: Charlotte Flair, by submission
Again, there’s a reason she’s #CharlotteNineTime. The Queen shows the delinquent the gap between them, is it only a matter of time before Charlotte gets her tenth?
As for Liv, sore and sobbing as she is, she grabs a headset. Charlotte is right, Liv isn’t real enough. But she vows to be real when she returns again. What does this mean for the future of SmackDown Liv?
Dolph Ziggler calls Kevin Owens.
He has to get Kevin’s number from a referee, but he dials it up all the same. Will Kevin pick up? Will Kevin take the bait of this main event play?
Ember Moon & ??? VS Fire & Desire!
The Shenom has been bullied by Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, not that they see it that way. God’s Greatest Creation and the Gladiator Gal want to push Ember around, but will they be able to when Ember has back-up? Though, speaking of, who is her back-up? The mystery partner is… BAYLEY! The SmackDown Women’s Champion is feeling great after beating both Raw’s Goddess and Loony Lass, will she and SmackDown’s War Goddess put out the fire and desire?
The bell rings and Mandy attacks Ember while Sonya goes after Bayley! Sonya throws knee after knee into Bayley while Mandy pushes Ember out. Mandy then returns to their corner to tag in, and Sonya feeds Bayley to a Kiss from a Rose! Then sliding wizard from Sonya! Mandy covers, TWO! Mandy clubs Bayley down then chokes her on the ropes. The ref counts and Mandy lets up because she knows. Mandy wraps Bayley up for a chinlock but Bayley fights out to a saido suplex! Tag to Ember to shotgun dropkick Mandy down! Ember lights Mandy up with those kicks! She has Mandy in a corner and stomps away. Ember whips corner to corner and htis an elbow. She rolls Mandy to climb up, but Sonya runs in. Bayley gives Sonya the Bayley2Belly! ECLIPSE for Mandy! Cover, Moon & Bayley win!
Winners: Ember Moon & Bayley, Moon pinning
And that is the power of a champion and a #Shenom! Will this show Mandy and Sonya what you get for bullying?
Kayla Braxton congratulates the winners, and asks the champ who she wants for Summerslam. Well Bayley is so happy that she’s finally through with Alexa. Now she can do what she really wants: elevate this SmackDown Women’s Division! Bayley wants someone worthy, someone with charisma but she’s also never faced. Someone who would treat the title right if they end up winning. Hmm… That sounds like Ember! Ember says “Hell yeah!” These two look ready to have a Summerslam showdown, but who comes out on top of the Blue Brand?
Backstage interview with Shinsuke Nakamura!
The NEW WWE Intercontinental Champion is congratulated, but he says he is a storm. Now Nakamura is free to rain down his chaos on the entire roster. But as he turns around, the Beacon of Light is there. Mustafa Ali congratulates the champ, but he seems to be the first one who wants at the gold. Can Ali weather the storm that is the King of Strong Style?
Don’t you dare be sour! Clap for your SIX-TIME champs and WWE Champion, and FEEL~ the POWER~! It’s a golden New Day, yes it is! Pancakes are flying and the belts are shining. Give it up for ya bois! You might as well call Kofi Kingston “Simon Phoenix” because he dismantled the Submission Machine, Samoa Joe. Yes, Kofi is the Demolition Man and the W, W, E, World, Heavy, Weight, CHAMPION~! But wait wait, look! The New Day had a great victory to dethrone the Planet’s Tag Team Champions to become the six-time, W, W, E, World, Tag, Team, CHAMPIONS~! “And look at us now.” African-American Leprechauns holding all the gold! White gold, even. BABYYY~!
Now everyone can guess what Bryan’s announcement is, but before we hear about a 10 minute lecture about recycling, fracking, and the ice cream licking epidemic that is downright nasty, Big E accepts the tag title rematch here and now in Worcester! The Planet’s Tag Team Champions come out and the New Day is ready to fight. But Bryan says nothing, and just leaves with Big Red Rowan. Was the tag title rematch not his announcement? Oh wait here Bryan comes again. Bryan wants to say something, but he can’t bring himself to say it. So again, he leaves. Wait, third time’s the charm. Bryan is clearly working on how to phrase it. Fans cheer “NEW! DAY ROCKS!” and it only angers him. Bryan drops the mic this time, so we’re not getting his announcement. At least not yet.
But now Samoa Joe comes out! Kofi is all smiles as Joe says while Bryan isn’t in the mood for championships, Joe wants one. Kofi’s back-up dancers are passing out title matches like it’s Christmas in July. So take up their example and put that title back on the line here and now! Fans want to see that match again, and Joe wants Kofi to be the man he claims to be. But wait, is that… Elias?! The Drifter tells Joe that “with all due respect”, he had his chance and he lost. If there is anyone primed and ready to take that world title from Kofi, it’s Elias. But then Randy Orton appears!
The Viper didn’t win the Cross Brand Top Ten All Star Battle Royal to go against Lesnar, but Orton says he hasn’t had the world title in some time. So he’s gonna just take it. ANd he’ll do it with the most dangerous three letters in wrestling: R K O. But Elias says no everyone can have the match tonight. But there can be a Six Man Tag to make a point. So it’s a Six Man Tag, playa? A challenge, playa? Champion’s Huddle. The New Day accept this challenge, playa! Orton opts out. Wow…! The Viper doesn’t want to strike? Seems more like the snake is a little limp. That gets Orton to opt back in! Will The New Day pay for that joke? Or will they have the last laugh?
Six Man Tag: The New Day VS Randy Orton, Samoa Joe & Elias!

Elias catches his breath while Woods is down. Tag to Joe and Joe fetches Woods. Joe drags Woods up to put into the ring, then keeps between him and the New Day. He mocks Woods to crawl for a tag, but then stomps Woods down. Joe rains fists and elbows down. Joe drags Woods over and tags in Orton. Orton stomps Woods’ limbs, then his stomach. He drags Woods up to toss back out the ring, then goes out to back suplex Woods on the announce desk! Woods writhes to the floor but Orton looms over him. Orton drags Woods up and in and covers, TWO! Most importantly, the Viper took out THE WWE World Champion! Does this put the Apex Predator at the front of the line for Summerslam?
SmackDown returns as Carmella looks for R-Truth.
Wait where is he? The washing machine? Why? Because he’s hiding! But now he’s stuck. Just help him out. Careful now, careful. Okay, the lid is off. How did Kane do this? There ain’t no bathroom in here. Carmella has a better spot, but it’ll involve a costume. Okay, because the 48/7 European 7/11 24/7 I-75 277 Champion ain’t no joke. Yeah, they’ll go to Comic Con. No no he ain’t no con. He did his time. Not that! Just follow her. Right, right. Truth falls out of the washing machine! Man down! It’s okay, just get up. Who will Truth cosplay as he and Mella go to Comic Con?
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships: The IIconics VS The Kabuki Warriors w/ Paige!
Peyton Royce and Billie Kay perhaps shocked the world when they were the ones who came out of Wrestlemania’s historic Fatal 4 Way Women’s Tag Title Match as the winners. However, and for whatever reason, they’ve yet to actually defend those titles in the three months that have passed. But finally, a team has them backed against the wall! Will the Empress of Tomorrow and the Pirate Princess truly becoming #JoshiRoyalty when they have the gold around their waist? Or will Asuka and Kairi Sane find what makes the future IIconic?
SmackDown returns as the introductions are made and the belts are raised. The teams sort out and it will be Kairi and Peyton to start in this long-awaited title match!

Kairi is up top, and is roaring as she hits her InSane Elbow! The champions cheated Asuka and Kairi out of a real match, but will there be a rematch to remedy this?
Apollo Crews VS Andrade Almas w/ Zelina Vega!
SmackDown returns as El Idolo and La Muneca are already in the ring. The rising star makes his entrance and shows his physique on the way to the ring. But Almas goes after Apollo as soon as he enters! This is par for the course from the not so tranquilo Idolo. The referee checks on Apollo, and Apollo still wants this match to happen. Cover, but Shane drags Kevin out! So he gets a STUNNER! Kevin bails out before the horde gets a hold of him! Kevin gives up this battle so he can continue the rebellion!
Kayla Braxton asks Shane about this foiled plan. Shane says Kevin will pay! He forces himself up and walks, coughing for air. What will Shane and his squad do to make sure Kevin and every superstar that stands opposed to him learn their place?
Well this was certainly a wild episode of SmackDown. Not as good as it could’ve or should’ve been, but still really wild. Recap at the start aside, that “Town Hall meeting” was a pretty fun idea to open the show. Obviously Shane is becoming a dictator while we get some nice promos and interaction between those truly underutilized superstars. It was actually pretty genius to have Roman Reigns speak out against Shane and then do nothing else for the rest of the night. Roman’s already beaten Shane, so it’s not like he has to do anything more to him. Clearly things are shifting so that Kevin has the biggest spotlight in the story. I just wish there was better scheduling so that the main event actually gets the time it deserves.
But much like Raw last night, SmackDown was able to get the point across. Tonight’s point: Kevin 3:16 says he’ll stunner anyone on Team Shane. I don’t know if stories intertwine with Shane and Ziggler taking on Kevin and Miz as a tag team, but doing that might save room on the Summerslam card. And the build towards then might involve more of Kevin having to duck and dodge stacked decks like those other Heels surrounding him. At least it means Murphy and the Authors of Pain got to do stuff, even if it’s just chasing Kevin like he’s the 24/7 Champion. Speaking of, great little moment for Truth. That fall out of the washing machine was shoot, but he played it off well. I can’t wait to see the 24/7 Championship at a Comic Con.
Aleister Black VS Cesaro Round 2 was as good, if not better, than the Extreme Rules match, and that made it amazing for SmackDown! Aleister’s sweep of Cesaro should lead him to the Intercontinental Championship, but Mustafa Ali makes an appearance to make a point that he wants after Nakamura, too. Either choice will be great, and we’ve got three weeks to see who we’re getting. Maybe a contender’s match of Aleister VS Ali? Meanwhile, Bryan’s “career-altering announcement” was obviously just some hype, but it does bring some intrigue. His line about going where he’s never gone before is interesting, and makes me think it might not be about the SmackDown Tag titles at all.
The Six Man Tag we got instead was pretty great, playa. The Heels win to give us three strong choices for Kofi’s Summerslam opponent, but given Samoa Joe just lost, Elias still doesn’t feel quite ready, and the history of Kofi and Orton in Kofi’s 11 years in the WWE, I think it’s Orton. If Kofi is to prove he is one of the best WWE World Champions, beating Orton would go a long way towards that. The SmackDown Women’s Championship seemed built a little too fast, though. It was great for Bayley to be Ember’s mystery partner, since it was almost too obvious for it to be Carmella. Bayley and Ember put Fire & Desire away pretty easily, but it’s not as fun when a champion just chooses a challenger. Their match will be great, but there should’ve been another week of action to have someone earn the spot.
Kudos to kayfabe Liv Morgan for wanting to “be real” and earn her spot in the locker room. She gave Charlotte a bit of a fight, but Charlotte is Charlotte and she wins very easily. I’m curious to see what Liv will be like when she returns. The women’s tag title scene is still a mess, though. For three months, the IIconics have been the cover girls for how Vince robbed us of #LegitHuggable doing awesome stuff, like going to TakeOvers to take on whatever female teams NXT and NXT UK could come up with, as well as all teams from Raw and SmackDown. But nope, go with the Aussie Mean Girls and pretend those titles aren’t important. And when we finally get a title match somewhere, it’s the Heels being extra cowardly and losing on purpose. Obviously this is to extend things to Summerslam (we hope) but it still stinks in the moment.
My Score: 8.1/10

A-Kid reflects on his match with Walter.
Heritage Cup Champion took on NXT UK Champion in an instant classic, and he put so much heart into taking on the Ring General. But in the end, the body was not strong enough and Walter still reigns. “I am proud of how I represented the Heritage Cup Championship against Walter. I came up short this time, but next time, it will be different.” Will the Spanish Ace rise back up the ranks while growing the prestige of the trophy he holds?

Williams has faith in Jordan that he’ll be the lucky one tonight! Okay, but, he couldn’t find anyone smaller? Nope, sorry. But hey, go get ready, Williams will be right there with him. Did Williams write a check Jordan’s body can’t cash?
Ilja Dragunov VS Jack Starz!
After the epic battle with Walter that disappointingly ended in a loss, the Moscow Madman reflected for a long time, and decided that he needed to start from scratch. He chose to bring things full circle against his first opponent in NXT UK, but will it go the same way now that #UNBESIEGBAR isn’t so sure of himself?

Sam Gradwell shares his own opinion of Ben Carter.
“Ben Carter? This supposed to be exciting? Fizzing around like a bloody Catherine wheel?” As much as Gradwell likes spelling out naughty words with a sparkler, he’s not here to be “a pretty little bonfire treat.” Gradwell will admit Carter push Devlin to his limit in just his debut, “but we’ll see how exciting the lad is when this Thunderstorm sends him packing back to Jersey. Ben Carter is a yogurt!” Will Gradwell rain on Carter’s parade before it even gets going?

NXT UK Media catches up with Xia Brookside.
“Nina Samuels. I beat you fair and square. And then you jump me after the match. You then cost me the match with Isla Dawn. What is it? This is not the Nina Samuels Show. And now, you want to drag my family’s name through the dirt? Soon enough, Nina, you will see exactly what a Brookside is truly capable of.” Will Nina consider bowing out of the leading role in a sequel with this fired up second generation superstar?
While Primate & Wild Boar are part of next week’s massive Fatal 4 Way ELIMINATION Tag Match to name new #1 contenders to the NXT UK Tag Team Championships, their mastermind will be BANNED from ringside! That’s right, Eddie Dennis will not be allowed to interfere in the battle between The Hunt, Ashton Smith & Oliver Carter, Pretty Deadly, and South Wales Subculture! Will The Hunt end up the hunted without the Welsh Dragon there to guide them?

The reign that is 509 days and counting could be stopped right here! The Scary Queen of Scots has overcome everyone put in front of her, even the likes of Toni Storm and Piper Niven! But she and the Spoiled Princess haven’t had a real opportunity to go 1v1 until today! Will KLR make it to day 510? Or will Jinny having a knight in not so shining armor be a major factor?

Winner: Kay Lee Ray, by pinfall (still NXT UK Women’s Champion)
Jinny’s insurance policy failed her, and the historic reign continues! What will it take for someone, anyone, to dethrone KLR?
A great episode for NXT UK from top to bottom! Mastiff and Rampage was a great match, especially for an opener, and naturally Rampage wins as he’s the new big star moving up the ranks. Who knows, we might get a rematch or a series of rematches because if this was the first one, I’d love to see what they could do to build upon it. At the very least, this helps get Rampage on track towards the NXT UK Championship and Walter, and he could be in a position to challenge in the Spring to match with WrestleMania season. As a fall back, have these two guys be a tag team and just steamroll some people.
A-Kid had a decent “self-reflection” promo, but I still expect him to focus on the Heritage Cup Championship, and to build up that reign with a lot of great defenses, maybe even giving rematches to some of his opponents from the tournament. I again enjoyed Sam Gradwell’s promo running down one of the bright stars of NXT UK, he has great obscure references because I forgot what a “Catherine wheel” was until I googled it. This surely means Ben Carter’s match week is against Gradwell, and that will be Carter’s first win in NXT UK. Xia Brookside had a good video promo warning Nina Samuels, I look forward to a more intense Brookside in the coming weeks.
I was completely and gladly shocked by how Dragunov changed in that match with Jack Starz. I thought there was going to be a long run of Dragunov being mellow, more technical, and struggling to win, and then at a certain point, he’d snap and get back to Unbesiegbar. Instead, they did a lot of that in just this one match and then he went above and beyond into this extra scary Dragunov. This fugue state Dragunov is a very interesting take, but I look forward to seeing the follow-up with Starz confronting Dragunov about it.
I think Williams is turning Heel on Jordan. He tried to set Jordan up to fail against T-Bone, but then Jordan wins, so maybe Williams tries to take it up a notch and set Jordan up against someone like Mastiff or Saxon Huxley. It’ll come out that Williams is doing this out of a sense of jealousy and bitterness, the team splits up, and we’ll get a great match of Jordan VS Williams.
KLR VS Jinny was a great main event, but the only thing that brought it down was NXT UK trying to make it seem like all the women on the roster were watching via ThunderDome technology. They did a good job with Piper Niven but I swear Amale was edited in, she was in far better focus than all the other screens. The one effective one was Aoife taking over the screens with supernatural powers similar to The Fiend or Taker. I like the creativity with how Conners tries to screw KLR over but ends up screwing Jinny over. There were some good false dirty finishes, and in the end KLR wins to keep history going. I have a feeling, given those ThunderDome screen edits, Aoife will be built up so that she will be the one to dethrone KLR and immediately be a star. Not sure how effective that is but it’s clearly NXT UK’s goal.
My Score: 8.4/10

The Way is ALREADY out of the Dusty Cup! And furthermore, Kushida has again pinned the North American Champion! Will Kushida be on the path for not just one but two titles in 2021?
Pete Dunne speaks.
“Finn Balor, whether you want to admit it or not, you know full well me and you are cut from the same cloth.” Same humble beginnings in the UK, but here’s what’s different. Balor left, while Dunne “built an entire brand. I made NXT UK! And what do I get as a thank you? I constantly get compared to you and what you’ve done.” Balor said everyone wants to face the champ so Dunne needs to get in line. What does he mean by that? Dunne is the REAL threat to the NXT Championship. Balor claims he doesn’t watch the business, but surely he’s been watching Dunne these last few years.
We all know that this is inevitable. And this time, Balor can’t just leave. He will pass the torch. History will speak well of Balor, but will speak better of Dunne. “The day that me and you finally meet, people will finally realize that you’ve just been taking part in MY legacy.” Will the Bruiserweight be the one to dethrone the Prince?
Backstage interview with Malcolm Bivens.
What’s he waiting outside of William Regal’s for? Well he and Tyler Rust are waiting for a presentation to Regal. Rust is the future of NXT. He is no rookie, he is the #DiamondintheRust! Rust will be a future North American Champion, a future NXT Champion, and- Rust finishes his talk with Regal and thanks Regal for this, promising that Regal won’t regret it. Bivens is surprised and Rust apologizes, he got here early and already had his talk with Regal. The match is made for tonight! Rust VS Bronson Reed! Bivens isn’t quite as happy about this, that wasn’t the direction Bivens was hoping for. But what’s done is done. Bivens says Rust is going straight to the top and he has a match to win. Rust is the future, but how far in the future will it be when he’s headed for a colossal obstacle?

The countdown to the inevitable has certainly begun, but will it be Kross who takes that title from Balor, not Dunne? But wait, Kross isn’t done! He goes after Troy, who was just checking on his Dusty Cup tag team partner! KROSSJACKET!! Troy flails, but he passes out! Kross shows no mercy, will that be the same for anyone on the path back to the title?
NXT takes a closer look at MSK.
Nash Carter tells Wes Lee he’s about to throw off the other tag teams. “MSK, Wes Lee and Nash Carter, number tag team in all of NXT!” How is a Borat impersonation going to do anything? “Because I’m number one!” Very nice, yes! But who are MSK? Nash and Lee came together by fate and now they’re family. They impressed against Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and Jake Atlas, and even other NXT superstars like Ember Moon gives them credit for being so innovative and precise. All the hard work, dedication, blood, sweat and tears… They’re getting teary-eyed just thinking about that Dusty Cup. They’ve fought for so long, and now they’re finally here. This is everything to them. But will they make another impressive impact in the second round?
Mercedes Martinez & Toni Storm speak.
They tell Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter, “being best friends means absolutely nothing in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.” Toni and Mercedes don’t need to be friends, they’re just two tough women with a common interest. So for all they care, KC and KC can go preheat an EZ Bake Oven, practice some cartwheels, and then maybe work on a TikTok video. Because what Mercedes did to Io Shirai will be nothing compared to what she and Toni do to them tonight! Enjoy the first round exit, though. Will the combined forces of Mean Mercedes and The Lightning From Down Under be greater then KC Squared?
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Opening Round: Imperium VS Lucha House Party!
Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner have been NXT Tag Team Champions before, but they wish to return to the top and keep the mat sacred! Will Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik change those plans and make the Dusty Cup #LuchaLit?

Backstage interview with Finn Balor.
He’s heading to William Regal’s office and barges in. Balor says Regal knows why he’s here: Balor wants Pete Dunne. But Balor already knows the games Dunne is playing, they’re all from Balor’s old playbook. So Balor wants to start with Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch. “First I’ll chop off the arms, then I’ll chop off the head.” Regal understands how Balor feels but he has to protect Balor from himself. After what happened last week, Balor can’t fight them all alone. So Regal says Balor should find a tag team partner. Regal should know Balor better than anyone. Balor doesn’t have friends, that’s the old Finn. All Balor has now are enemies. Then keep your enemies closer. Balor leaves, but will he find someone willing to fight alongside him against the would-be Kings of NXT?
Isaiah “Swerve” Scott finds Bronson Reed backstage.
Swerve tells Reed to not get in his business again. But then wishes him “luck” out there. Will Swerve’s words get in Reed’s head as he heads for the ring?
After what happened to both Ashante “Thee” Adonis and Desmond Troy at the hands of Karrion Kross, Adonis’ injury won’t let him compete this Friday on 205 Live, where he and Troy would be competing in the Dusty Cup. Speaking of the Dusty Cup, KC Squared run in and are PUMPED for their win! Congratulations are in order, and they say this is what they told us would happen! No one believed in them, but they said they’d win and go down in the history books. They just beat two of the toughest women in NXT and are going to win the whole thing. Say it again! “We’re going to win the whole thing!” Will KC Squared continue to rise into immortality?
Tyler Rust w/ Malcolm Bivens VS Bronson Reed!
Bivens Enterprise’s current client kinda stepped in it, talking to Regal without Bivens being present. But will they keep this from being a huge setback in Rust’s rise to the top? Or is there no getting past Auszilla when you’re across from him in the ring?
The bell rings and Reed circles with Rust. Rust dodges the grapple and kicks, but Reed stays up. Rust gets around to get an arm and wrenches but Reed pushes him off. Rust comes back to get the arm again but Reed is the one with the killer knuckle lock! Rust spins through, keylocks, but Reed powers him away and headlocks. Reed grinds Rust but Rust powers up. Rust tries to power out but Reed holds on tight. Fans rally, Rust pulls hair and puts Reed on ropes. The ref counts, Rust lets off and then kicks the arm! Rust dodges Reed, things speed up and Reed BLASTS Rust out of the ring with that shoulder!
Bivens coaches Rust up and says he’s got this. Rust gets up and gets back in, dodges Reed but Reed blocks the kick to give the kick. Reed trophy lifts Rust then drops him to a GUT BUSTER! And then dead lifts him for a FALL AWAY SLAM! Rust sits on the apron as he catches his breath but Bivens says to use his brains against Reed’s brawn. But Reed drags Rust up, only for Rust to wrench the arm and hotshot it! Rust hurries after the arm, ARMBREAKER DDT!
Whoa, something big is happening backstage! Clearly Toni and Mercedes found out Shirai screwed them over, and they’re after her in the locker room! The refs and security keep them apart but is that easier said than done?
Back to the ring, Rust KICKS at Reed’s arm, and again and again. Rust throws uppercuts to the arm but Reed ROCKS Rust with a right! Rust kicks the arm, throws more uppercuts, but Reed swats the kick and throws a forearm to the chest! Reed clobbers Rust over and over, then whips him to ropes for a BODY CHECK! Fans fire up with Reed as he corner splashes Rust! Reed choke grips to CHOKE SLAM! Cover, TWO!! Rust survives but Reed keeps his cool. Reed climbs up the corner, Rust hurries up and ROCKS Reed with a right! Rust climbs, goes after the arm, and double wristlocks! The ref counts, Reed uses one body shot to get Rust away, but Rust comes back to BOOT him!
Rust wants to fireman’s carry Reed, and gets him long enough for a SAMOAN DROP! Cover, TWO! Rust keeps on Reed with a cravat but the driver is thrown off! Reed drops a back senton, then goes up top! TSUNAMI SPLASH!! Cover, Reed wins!
Winner: Bronson Reed, by pinfall
Rust still shows promise, but Reed is just too much for a normal man! Will Reed crush the competition on his way back to title contention?
Another backstage interview with Finn Balor!
Given what Regal told him about taking on Oney & Danny, Balor just needs to find a tag team partner. The Prince says there are some people around here that owe him a favor, so maybe they’ll have a little chat. Will Balor get himself a tag team partner to go after the Bruiserweight’s BritAm Brawlers?
Finn Balor finds the Undisputed Era.
Adam Cole says, “Look what the cat dragged in, fellas.” Balor says the cat is looking for payback. They’re all grown men. Kyle O’Reilly knows why Balor is here. Is he in? Or is he still sucking meals through a straw? Roderick Strong gets heated but Cole has him stand down. Balor waits on Kyle’s answer. The answer is yes. Then see you next week. See you then, champ. Kyle and Balor put each other through hell as opponents, will they put Oney & Danny through even worse as allies?
El Legado del Fantasma is here!
Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde are already in the ring as Santos Escobar walks around. “A real champion does what he wants, when he wants. You are looking at the champion of champion, the NXT Cruiserweight Champion, El Campeon, Santos Escobar.” Escobar explains to us what a true champion is. “A champion of champions doesn’t have to conquer a curse like Johnny Gargano. A champion of champions doesn’t have a glass jaw like Finn Balor.” Some people try to act like a champion, with badass cars and pretty mamacitas, with all the pomp and circumstance, like Karrion Kross! But when it’s time to prove themselves, they don’t make it to their first title defense!
Escobar has Mendoza hold onto the belt as he continues to boast. “I guess carrying a title is a heavy, heavy chip on your shoulders.” Escobar joins the others in the ring as he says, “I back up every word that I have said. And I have beaten every single person that has been on my path.” Now, even Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado came to NXT to try and destroy Escobar’s empire! But he sent them packing. Now to Raul and Joaquin, they won their first match in the Dusty Cup, and that puts them one step closer to becoming the NXT Tag Team Champions, joining Escobar as the champions of champions. LOS CAMPEONES!
But speaking of LHP, they return! Lince and Metalik don’t want to wait until round tow, they go after Legado already! But Mendoza and Wilde stomp and club them down! They set Lince up for Escobar as he climbs up, but then CURT STALLION trips him up! LHP DOUBLE SUPERKICK Legado out, and Stallion DECKS Escobar on top of them! It seems Escobar forgot that the Lonestar has his title shot up his sleeve! Will Stallion, Lince and Metalik make sure El Legado are NEVER the Champions of Champions in NXT?
Backstage interview with Killian Dain & Drake Maverick.
Congratulations are in order for their win on 205 Live and in the Dusty Cup, putting them into the quarterfinals. But they’re next up against MSK. How are they feeling? Maverick speaks up and interrupts Dain, saying that while last year got off to a rocky start for him, this year will be big! Maverick’s got an ally who will always have his back. It’s his best friend and tag team partner, Killian Dain! Maverick knows how great MSK is, they want to come right into the Dusty Classic and win it all, but they won’t! Because the team that will win this will storm into the tournament, go all the way to the finals and stand tall with the trophy! That team is none other than Maverick and Dain!
Dain is impressed by that little speech, and gives Maverick a hard pat on the shoulder. Maverick still doesn’t have Dain’s contact info, though. Will the oddest of odd couples be the ones to shock the world and win the Dusty Cup?
Backstage interview with Curt Stallion and Lucha House Party!
A couple months ago, the Lonestar earned his shot at the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. Tonight, he went out there to embarrass Escobar and it won’t stop until he gets his shot! El Legado heads in and referees keep the peace. Escobar says if Stallion wants to interrupt and ruin his message to the world, then Escobar will destroy him. But not now, because he’ll make sure to expose Stallion as the rookie he is NEXT WEEK, with the title on the line! Legado leaves and Stallion finally has his match! Will the fall of Fantasma begin this close to TakeOver: Valentine’s Day?
Fight Pit: Timothy Thatcher VS Tommaso Ciampa!
A battle originally meant for New Year’s Evil had to be delayed because NXT wanted to make sure both men went into this as close to 100% as possible. This is only the second Fight Pit ever, but the Professor of Pain has a huge advantage by being one of the two men in the original! Will he teach the Psycho Killer that he has all the grit he needs to stand atop the brand? Or will Ciampa show Thatcher that even he has much to learn?
NXT returns and both men make their entrances. The introductions are made, the rules are reviewed, and the only way to win is by submission or knockout! The bell rings, and this grittiest of grudge matches finally begins!
Ciampa and Thatcher don’t drop down right away, they circle on the upper ledge first. Ciampa pursues but Thatcher backs away, and then they rush each other with fast hands! Ciampa clubs away on Thatcher, has him against railing, and wants to dump him out?! Thatcher resists, Ciampa KNEES him against the railing, but Thatcher comes back with uppercuts! Thatcher ROCKS Ciampa with more EuroUppers, then he chokes Ciampa on the railing! Fans rally and Thatcher throws body shots and forearms! Thatcher brings Ciampa around for more uppercuts, then half hatch suplexes Ciampa! What a thud off the wooden platform!
Thatcher heel hooks a leg and KICKS away on Ciampa’s back! Ciampa keeps from falling over the edge as Thatcher tries to turn him, and Ciampa kicks Thatcher away! Ciampa gets up, runs in and BOOTS Thatcher down! Ciampa kicks Thatcher and throws down haymakers! And then he stomps away at the railing! Thatcher scrambles up but Ciampa CHOPS! Thatcher throws a forearm but Ciampa gives it back! Ciampa CHOPS again, and again! Thatcher is against railing as he grits his teeth, but Ciampa throws more forearms. Thatcher throws body shots and forearms in return, then knees Ciampa in the ribs!
Thatcher drags Ciampa up for more forearms then stalks him along the platform. Ciampa blocks a bump off the railing, pulls on Thatcher’s ear then ROCKS him with a haymaker! Ciampa stomps Thatcher then digs his boot into his head! Ciampa fish hooks Thatcher’s face, then gets the legs to stomp the stomach! Ciampa tries to scrape Thatcher through railing and off the top but Thatcher holds onto railing! Ciampa gets the legs to GUILLOTINE CATAPULT Thatcher into the bars! Thatcher is gasping and crawling while Ciampa applauds himself and pats himself on the back, and NXT goes picture in picture!
Ciampa sees Thatcher crawling and finally heading into the pit. But Ciampa stomps Thatcher’s hands and makes him fall down into it! Ciampa climbs down to join Thatcher and digs his face into the steel fencing! Ciampa lets off and Thatcher crawls, only for Ciampa to dig his face into the fencing on that side! Ciampa CLUBS Thatcher down, but Thatcher goes after a leg! Thatcher gets Ciampa down, digs forearms into Ciampa’s face and goes to turn him. Ciampa resists but Thatcher just smothers him with the forearm. Ciampa tweaks Thatcher’s fingers! Ciampa CHOPS, Thatcher EuroUppers! Thatcher looms over Ciampa, KNEES him in the back, then sits him up for a chinlock.
Ciampa endures as Thatcher grinds him down. Ciampa fights his way up, throws body shots but Thatcher clubs him back. NXT returns to single picture as Thatcher whips Ciampa but Ciampa stops from hitting steel fencing. Ciampa elbows Thatcher back, then throws Thatcher into the fencing! And again! And again! Ciampa then runs side to side to KNEE Thatcher into the steel! The ref checks on Thatcher and starts a count. If Thatcher doesn’t stand up before 10, it’s a technical knockout. Thatcher is up at 6, but Ciampa is on him with underhooks! Thatcher resists, and throws Ciampa into the corner where there’s only bare post!
Ciampa writhes and clutches his shoulder but Thatcher is after that arm! Thatcher stands on Ciampa’s head, pulls on an arm, then drags Ciampa to the corner. Thatcher puts the arm in the gap, but Ciampa kicks Thatcher away! Fans fire up as Ciampa and Thatcher rise. Ciampa CHOPS, and CHOPS, but Thatcher clinches, rams Ciampa into fencing then BELLY2BELLY SUPLEXES! Thatcher is after the arm for a double wristlock! Ciampa endures, moves around, but Thatcher mounts for a ground ‘n’ pound of forearms! Thatcher tortures the fingers, twists the wrist, and JAMS them into the mat! Ciampa has a HALF CRAB! Then he KICKS Thatcher in the back! Ciampa rains down rights but Thatcher kicks back! Ciampa stomps, rains down more rights, then goes after a leg again. Thatcher boots Ciampa into the steel! Thatcher stalks Ciampa, clamps onto the head and has a SLEEPER HOLD! Ciampa flails but there are no ropebreaks when there are no ropes! Ciampa still grabs the steel, and then LOW BLOW MULE KICKS! No disqualifications in the Fight Pit, either!
The ref checks on Thatcher but Thatcher grabs at Ciampa over the ref’s back! Ciampa uses the leverage for WILLOW’S BELL!! But Ciampa can’t win off a cover, he wants to know if that knocked Thatcher out! The ref starts a count, Thatcher is still conscious but he has to get up before 10! The count is 5, then 6! Thatcher uses the cage and drags himself up at 9.9! But Ciampa CLOBBERS him, underhooks, but Thatcher spins out to throw EuroUppers! Ciampa forearms, they’re brawling back and forth with fury! The fans are fired up as Ciampa CHOPS but Thatcher tackles him into steel!

Thatcher CLUBS Ciampa over and over and over, then has the leg trapped in the girder! HANGING STRETCH MUFFLER!! Ciampa shouts in pain, he TAPS! THATCHER WINS!!
Winner: Timothy Thatcher, by submission
Undefeated in the Fight Pit, it is truly the site of Professor of Pain’s masterclass in mauling and mangling the human body! Has Thatcher proven once and for all that he is the toughest man in NXT? But perhaps most shocking of all, Thatcher goes over to Ciampa, to nod respect to him! Is the feeling mutual after what they just put each other through?
A great episode! We got three great Dusty Cup matches, with some rather surprising outcomes. The Way VS KUSHIDA & Ruff was a great opener, and I really thought it was going to go the other way with Gargano and Theory getting this win so that they’d have something to fall back on if Kushida takes the title from Gargano. But now I feel like it’ll be Gargano retaining so that Kushida and Ruff can continue on in this tournament. Imperium VS LHP was another great match with another surprise. Though, story did dictate we get LHP VS Legado del Fantasma again to continue their story of battling over lucha libre, as also made clear with the Legado segment.
Speaking of that segment, a damn shame Stallion is a nobody to even NXT commentary outside of Vic Joseph, who is on 205 Live’s commentary. This just proves what I’ve been saying about the blending of the brands needs to be stronger because I’m pretty sure many NXT fans were just as lost as Wade Barrett was. We also got a great surprise in Wolfe showing up when last we knew, he was still in the UK for NXT UK. I suppose Walter doesn’t need Imperium backing up as no faction is trying to go after him, but I would’ve thought Wolfe would stay and go after the Heritage Cup. Maybe Wolfe finds his way into the North American Championship scene while he’s here.
The Women’s Dusty Cup had a great introduction from Regal and Beth, and we got a very good opening match between Toni-Mercedes VS KC Squared. Shirai showing up was a great surprise, and naturally she pulls Mercedes and Toni back towards the title story. Kacy should be careful with that unique corkscrew move of hers, she could’ve taken herself out since she was only half on Toni’s back. Raquel & Dakota being in the tournament was as much a given as The Way’s LeRae & Indi were, even with Raquel having that great Last Woman Standing win over Rhea. And I like that we’re getting the newest additions in the tournament already, it’ll be a great way to show their skills from the start.
Speaking of new additions, MSK had a good promo but it didn’t really explain much about who they are, which was supposed to be the point. For one, why is it “MSK?” What does that stand for when their names are “Nash Carter” and “Wes Lee?” Will we finally get that explanation when they win again? And while Dain and Maverick are a great duo and Maverick had a great promo of his own, I don’t think they’re winning against MSK. Rust definitely wasn’t beating Reed tonight but it was a great way to give him and Bivens some story. Bivens is trying to do things in Rust’s best interest but he’s just not getting it, so maybe Bivens needs to get a bit stern with him until Rust is actually champion.
Dunne had a really good promo on Balor, and Balor’s response was natural. I like that Balor said having friends and a team and all that was the old Balor, even older than being in the WWE. But it also makes some sense that he and the UE would team up against Oney & Danny, and with Cole & Strong in the Dusty Cup, Kyle was the obvious choice. Though that’s not to say Kyle was by default, the story between him and Finn made that the natural choice, and it is going to be awesome to see them brawl with the BritAm Brawlers. Kross destroying Adonis & #DesTroy seems to be a way of writing those two out of the tournament and possibly putting a losing team back in, or surprising us with a completely new team. Dare I say that Balor & O’Reilly could end up that team after what they do to the tag champs? Would Balor make history as a two-time Dusty Cup winner?
And then the Fight Pit was a great main event, and a story unique from the original. Staying up top and fighting up there for an extended time was a nice way of changing this match up in only its second edition, and it was a natural choice that Thatcher would win. Thatcher should have the Fight Pit as “his match” just as much as Taker had the Casket Match (among a few others), and it could easily be made so that whoever finally beats him in the Fight Pit looks like a million bucks. I wonder if there will ever be a title match inside the Fight Pit. That’d be pretty awesome, since they already treated this one like a title match with the introductions and dramatic lighting.
