Mitchell’s WWE 205 Live Results & Report! (1/3/20)

205 Live is alive in 2020!

NEW 205 Live Coverage

Let’s make the New Decade just as fast and furious as the old one!

Everyone has New Year’s Resolutions, but The Premier Athlete’s is to get back to the NXT Cruiserweight Championship! Will he start that with a win over said champion, Angel Garza?

  • Danny Burch VS Ariya Daivari; Daivari wins.
  • The Singh Brothers VS Casey Storm & Anthony Wayne; The Singh Brothers win.
  • Angel Garza VS Tony Nese; Garza wins.

Danny Burch VS Ariya Daivari!

The Govena is going to stay gritty, even in the New Year! But the Persian Lion looks to finally get the gold he’s always wanted. Who keeps their resolution longer with a win tonight?

The bell rings and the two circle. Burch and Daivari circle and Daivari headlocks. Burch powers out but Daivari runs him over. Daivari lounges on the top rope but Memphis boos. Burch keeps his cool and Daivari returns. The two circle again and tie up. Burch wrenches to a wristlock and grinds Daivari down with an armlock. Burch twists the arm and stands on it to then get a neck wrench. Burch headlock takeovers but Daivari moves around. Burch gives some quick palm strikes to Daivari’s forehead, but Daivari gets to his feet. Daivari tries but can’t power out and Burch grinds on the headlock more. Daivari wrenches out to a keylock but Burch wrenches back to get the wristlock again. Burch has a knuckle lock and uses it to bring Daivari to his knees. He even denies Daivari a punch with it.

Burch spins around to trip Daivari up and roll him for a stomp to the hands! And he clamps on a headlock again! Daivari gets to ropes but Burch waits until 4 to let go. Burch headlocks while Daivari is on the apron and drags him out onto the ropes, to then drop him! Daivari checks his teeth but Burch shrugs. Burch mocks the lounging! Memphis cheers this turnabout but Daivari is upset. Daivari runs at Burch but Burch side-steps to headlock Daivari again. Daivari puts Burch in a corner and Burch honors the break, but Daivari throws punches! Daivari bumps Burch off buckles but Burch turns things around to get the headlock again. Daivari powers out and things speed up, Burch catches the leg to YANK Daivari out of the air!

Fans cheer as Burch brings Daivari up for European Uppercuts! Burch stomps a mudhole into Daivari at the corner, then bumps him off buckles. Burch throws EuroUppers and whips Daivari corner to corner. Daivari reverses but runs into a boot! Burch hops up but Daivari YANKS him down now! Burch writhes as he bails out, and Daivari soaks up the heat. Daivari takes time to catch his breath before going out to fetch Burch. Daivari throws Burch into barriers! “I don’t hear you Memphis pieces of garbage anymore!” Well that gets fan to boo and jeer. Daivari drags Burch into the ring and covers, TWO! Daivari keeps on Burch in the corner by pulling on the ears. Daivari whips Burch to ropes but Burch kicks him back, then runs, only for Daivari to knee him down! Cover, TWO! Daivari grows annoyed with Burch but then tells Memphis that they suck.

Daivari chokes Burch at the ropes and rakes the face! The ref reprimands but Daivari snapmares Burch into a chinbar and chicken wing. Daivari grinds Burch down, returning all that technical skill from earlier. Fans rally up for Burch and he fights his way up. Burch jawbreakers free, then runs in, only to miss in the corner. Daivari half nelsons, spins Burch around for the reverse DDT! Cover, TWO! Daivari is frustrated and the fans building to a rally only annoy him more. Daivari toys with Burch and throws haymakers. Daivari drags Burch to a drop zone and climbs up, saying this one’s for Memphis. Fans don’t want it, since Daivari is mocking Jerry Lawler’s pulling down of the straps! Daivari grins as he holds up the fist, but Burch BOOTS him first!

Burch gets up as Daivari wobbles, but runs into a sleeper! Burch powers out with a back suplex! Fans cheer while both men are down. Burch and Daivari stir as the standing count begins. The count reaches 5 before Burch is up at the ropes. Daivari follows but Burch counter punches him! And again! Burch fires off fast forearms and EuroUppers! Burch whips and elbows Daivari down! Burch spins Daivari for another EuroUpper! Corner clothesline and enziguri, then a snapmare to a missile dropkick! Cover, TWO! Daivari lives but Burch won’t let up. Burch suplexes but Daivari slips out to shove, only for Burch to come back with a HEADBUTT! Cover, TWO, into a CROSSFACE! Daivari rolls it back for a cover, TWO!

Burch runs in but into another BOOT! Daivari puts Burch on the top rope and crosses the arms, ICONOCLASM! Cover, TWO!! Burch survives and Daivari can’t believe it! Daivari drags Burch to a drop zone and heads up top. This one isn’t for Memphis but for Daivari now, LION SPLASH FLOPS! CROSSFACE RETURNS! Burch cranks back, Daivari endures, but a man in a pink lucha mask jumps the rails?! Daivari is tapping but the ref doesn’t see it! He has to deal with “Senor Rosado” here, so Burch lets Daivari go. Daivari LOW BLOW UPPERCUTS! And then hammerlock for the LION’S LARIAT! Cover, Daivari wins!

Winner: Ariya Daivari, by pinfall

The Persian Lion wins and the man in the pink mask grabs a mic? The mystery man joins Daivari in the ring, and reveals himself to be THE Brian Kendrick! “Hello. How you doing, Memphis?” THE Brian Kendrick reminds them that he’s a professional wrestler. Kendrick is really good at pro-wrestling because he’s been doing it for a long time. Some of the fans might remember him, but Kendrick wants to remind “YOU” that he is THE Brian Kendrick! The man who STARTED this Cruiserweight Division! He is the “Best Damn Thing That Ever Happened to Cruiserweight Wrestling! Now, do something.”

Kendrick drops the mic to then cravat and give Burch some SLICED BREAD! Kendrick and Daivari, two 205 Live OG’s, might be united in their mission to “protect” the brand. But will 2020 really be that different for the Persian Lion and the Man with a Plan?

205 Live (mostly Tom Philips) congratulates The Singh Brothers on their big 2019.

Namely, it was 12/13/19 that Sunil Singh and his wife welcomed baby boy Gurveer Singh Sihra into the world. As Sunil tweeted, “Thank you God for this amazing blessing,” but #BabyBollywood needs them tassels! But things would get even better for the holidays as The Singh Brothers would go on a spree of WWE 24/7 Championship wins, including a win in the World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden! The Singhs added more reigns to their records, and are feeling great for having been part of all WWE brands, other than NXT UK. Will 2020 only have more #LightsCameraandBollywoodAction?

The Singh Brothers VS Casey Storm & Anthony Wayne!

Looks like we’re about to find out! Proud papa Sunil and Uncle Samir are going to have another chance to prove they’re the best team on 205 Live with the brand’s first tag match of 2020!

The teams sort out and Samir starts against Wayne. The two circle and tie up, but Samir knees low and elbows Wayne down. Samir brings Wayne up to club him back down, Tom sings the praises of “the world’s greatest uncle,” but Aiden English feels he’s a way better uncle. Samir brings Wayne up again to whip and knee him down. Samir tags in Sunil, and the Singhs double whip and double elbow Wayne down! Sunil swivels his hips and drags Wayne up, telling him to “go tag your partner, you piece of garbage!” Sunil whips Wayne to his corner, and Sunil waits. Storm tags in and hurries after Sunil but gets a CHOP for it! And another! Sunil CHOPS Storm into a corner and stomps a Bollywood mudhole. The ref counts but Sunil pulls Storm’s hair to put him in the Singh corner.

Tag to Samir and Samir whips Sunil for Sunil to whip Samir, but Storm dodges! Samir hits buckles hard and Storm hurries to tag Wayne back in! Wayne runs in and rallies on Sunil with big hands! Wayne whips, Sunil reverses but Wayne hits a forearm! Wayne wobbles and hits Samir, then whips Sunil. Sunil reverses and hits the windmill kick! “Piece of garbage” has angered Papa Sunil. Sunil tags to Samir, Storm runs into a SUPERKICK! The Bollywood Boys have Wayne for the BOLLYWOOD BLAST! Cover, the Singh Brothers win!

Winners: The Singh Brothers, Samir by pinfall

Cut, that’s a wrap! 2020 starts with another win for the Singhs, but will they have a Bollywood Blockbuster on their hands?

Angel Garza VS Tony Nese!

El Campeon es en la casa but The Premier Athlete wants that title! This is a rematch from their #1 Contender’s Match that led Garza to the gold, will Nese make sure history doesn’t repeat in 2020?

The bell rings and Garza circles with Nese. Fans cheer for Garza so Garza bails out and says he dose this on his time. Garza leaves a couple fans hanging in the front row before going back to the ring. Garza grins but Nese scowls as the two circle. Garza bails out again and finds a fan to offer a high five, but the fan leaves HIM hanging! Well, can’t say he didn’t deserve that. Garza wobbles but Nese shoves him, Garza SUPERKICKS back! Both men are down and fans cheer the even exchange!

Nese and Garza slowly rise, Nese chops Garza. Garza CHOPS back. Nese CHOPS, Garza CHOPS and fans “WOO!” Garza dodges and both men CHOP! Garza gets moving and rallies with fast lariats and even a dropkick! Garza blocks a chop to give a CHOP, then springboard arm-drags again! Off come the pants! That’s what fans were waiting for! Garza tosses the pants at Nese then SUPERKICKS him down! Cover, TWO! Nese lives and Garza can’t believe! Garza drags Nese to the drop zone and heads up top. But Nese somersaults to SHORYUKEN! And then hops right up, SUPER STEINER! Cover, TWO!! Garza survives and Nese is furious!

Garza runs but Nese ROCKS him back! Nese runs, Garza ROCKS him again. Garza runs in, Nese back drops but Garza rebounds of ropes. The two wobble as Garza steadies himself, but Nese sits down! TWO, and Nese stomps Garza down! Nese puts Garza in a corner but Garza monkey flips Nese out! Garza hurries up top, ASAI MOONSAULT! Direct hit wipes both of them out but Memphis comes alive! Garza gets up and puts Nese back in. Garza drags Nese up, underhooks but Nese Northern Lights! Cover, to a Boston Crab!

Nese has Garza locked in deep! Garza endures, grits his teeth and powers up! Garza heads for ropes and gets the ropebreak! Nese lets go at 4 but brings Garza back up. Garza standing switches but Nese slips out to German Suplex! Bridging cover, TWO! Garza hurries out of the ring but Nese FLIES! The Premier Fosbury hits and Nese puts Garza in quick! Triangle MOONSAULT onto knees! Garza has the underhooks, lifts, WING CLIPPER! Cover, Garza wins!

Winner: Angel Garza, by pinfall

The Cruiserweight Champion gets a huge win to start his 2020 off! Nese gave Garza another tough match, but it’s 2-0 already. Will Nese get a third chance at El Latino? Or are there going to be plenty of new challengers for the championship in the New Year?

My Thoughts:

A pretty good episode to start 2020. I’m mostly surprised 205 Live is staying the course of being live after SmackDown. Tonight was another case where it didn’t really connect with the Memphis crowd after a great two hours of action beforehand. I wish they’d put 205 Live at Full Sail as the unofficial dark matches for NXT, but I suppose they need that time for actual NXT dark matches. But action wise, the weak thing from tonight was the jobber match, because it was a jobber match. And Tony Wayne being nWo Kurt Angle, he was just not ready for “television.” Naturally Singh Brothers win, and I’m loving Tom Philips being their #1 (and probably only) fanboy, it’s hilarious. But outside of the 24/7 Championship, I can’t see where those two are going unless they can get something going on another brand.

Daivari VS Burch was good, but perhaps too technically based for a tired crowd. NXT UK and NXT would appreciate this stuff better, but I still liked it, too. This was an interesting spot for THE Brian Kendrick to return on, but the dark times of Enzo Amore aside, guys like Kendrick, Daivari and Nese really should unite as the 205 Live OG’s. Then they can take on a trio of the new stars, like Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Danny Burch and Raul Mendoza for a hard hitting, fast paced match fans might actually get into from the start. And speaking of Nese, Garza VS Nese was pretty good but Memphis was too tired to like the early character stuff. Though, I do appreciate that those fans left Garza hanging, that in itself was them playing along by not letting him have his fun.

It took some time for this match to get going, it was a bit sloppy, but it was still pretty good. Naturally, Garza wins, but I’m not sure who is next to challenge him with 205 Live depleted and NXT still only just getting in on Cruiserweight action since they took in the title to save the Division. But if it’s HHH at the helm, I have faith that he’ll get it going right. Maybe something for Worlds Collide so that an NXT UK Cruiserweight not doing anything gets a shot.

My Score: 8.1/10

Winner: Nyla Rose, by pinfall (advances to the tournament finals)

Thunder Rosa tried to strike like lightning, but she was the one who got Thunderstruck! The Native Beast meats Aneki this Wednesday, but who will be going to Revolution?

My Thoughts:

Not bad for just half an hour, but I’m oddly disappointed the entire half hour wasn’t just Nyla VS Rosa. The AEW Dark bonus matches put on here were, well, typical AEW Dark matches. Leyla winning is good for her, she is a very promising talent, and Madi getting her first AEW win here was cool for her. One thing I did like about that match was that Leva Bates was trying to use the Bucks’ moves to help her. I hope that is her thing for a little bit, that’d be pretty great if Leva became like a big Young Bucks fan and started looking impressive because of their moves in her arsenal.

The US Bracket Finals was a really good match for being just under 15 minutes, but again I kinda would’ve liked if they’d gotten maybe 20 minutes. I suppose one thing is that Rosa VS Riho just happened yesterday, 2/28, so maybe that could be a reason at least in kayfabe. I thought Rosa was going to win, but Nyla winning does follow with what I was feeling about giving us a rematch with Shida from Double or Nothing. Me predicting Nyla winning doesn’t change that Nyla VS Ryo Mizunami is going to be a lot of fun, though, as both are about power and strikes, but it maybe seemed more unpredictable if it was Rosa VS Ryo.

My Score: 8/10
