MY THOUGHTS

Jungle Boy makes for a great opener because he’s talented and very much over with the fans. He gives Alanis a decent showing, and I really like Alanis’ slingblade backbreaker. But JB getting a win with the Snare Trap quickly, that is a great showing for JB. But I wonder if JB gets a standing finisher, as I can’t imagine he can get everyone into that hold. Making Dustin VS Solow the second match was also a great choice, keeps momentum going with a match that has story feeding it. Dustin lighting up Solow to start, giving the fans some attention, the ref throwing The Factory out was all good stuff. Dustin carrying around the bull rope and cowbell still, I hope we get Dustin VS QT in a Bull Rope Match.

Was Moxley & Kingston VS Limelight & Isaacs not a main event according to AEW’s Twitter? Well sometimes left hand doesn’t know what right hand is doing, all that jazz. But these two are always a good time, so keeping the momentum rolling into the third match is great stuff. As was Mox and Kingston arguing about how Kingston was handling Limelight. They and The Acclaimed are going to have a great match on Dynamite, I can’t wait to hear what rap Max Caster has for them. Caster of course had a great rap tonight, he and Bowens get a win tonight to keep momentum going into Dynamite, and with the Young Bucks wanting Mox & Kingston at Double or Nothing, Mox & Kingston will surely get a great win.

Jake the Snake and Archer had a really good promo to hype up Archer VS Bronson tonight and Archer VS Miro down the line. I like that Archer dared Bronson to show him what he’s got, and then Bronson did the same right back. Bronson taking the fight to Archer is great stuff, shows someone somewhere sees something. Personally, I think that with the right pacing and booking, Bear Country could be a two man power trip, holding all the belts in AEW, even just for a short stretch. They’re big, they have good in-ring charisma, mic work has yet to be tested and might be the one weakness, but maybe they could even get a manager at some point to be like the Legion of Doom.

Showcase with Ryan Nemeth was good, that quick shot of him and Ziggler might irk WWE but whatever, that was definitely from his own personal album. I had no idea Nemeth was in all those other things, small parts or otherwise. If AEW does it right, Nemeth could parallel Ziggler as far as having all the belts at one point or another in his career. His match alongside JD Drake was good, and of course The Pretty Picture works together to get cheap shots in. JD doing a moonsault is great, and Nemeth wants his Rude Awakening called “Hot ‘n’ Bothered.” I’m pretty sure their opponents are like The Forgotten Sons if there wasn’t some political implication underlining the gimmick.

I don’t know if Natalia Markova being the reigning SHINE Wrestling Nova Champion but over here in AEW means SHINE could be a partner for them in Japan, but I would’ve thought she’d give Leyla a bit more of a competitive match. Leyla’s too legit, you gotta quit, she’s gonna be waiting for that title on the other side of Double or Nothing to be sure. There was a lot of charisma in Ethan & Scorpio VS #WavesandCurls, but I think at some point, Ethan & Scorpio need to take the next step as a team and have coordinated gear. At the very least, coordinate colors because Ethan was in red, Scorpio was in yellow. Unless they’re ketchup and mustard, they should try to match.

Was Hardy’s promo about Bunny becoming more twisted necessary? She was already twisted when she, Butcher and Blade showed up, then did go normal as Allie for that story with QT, but she’s back to how she was when she debuted. She and King had a good match, but of course the HFO had a part to play. Good for Swole to make the save, I think we’ll get Bunny VS Swole soon enough. We’re also getting more great HFO VS Dark Order tag matches, and I especially like that the ref thought ahead and ejected the cornermen to make it fair. The brawl at the start was great, Quen really tossed himself into railing. Angels continues to do great, and HFO had a clever way of cheating to win. Once Butcher is back, we need HFO VS Dark Order in a 5v5 Elimination match.

QT VS Baron was very good, QT getting at Paul “Big Show” Wight with the choke slam was a nice touch, but I guess it’s just on virtue of the Nightmare Family being Faces, they weren’t going to go attack The Factory in return for what they did to Dustin. Daniel Garcia has a very good AEW debut with Janela. It got very technical, which is one of the more forgotten parts of Janela’s skillset, but it was also hard hitting, something everyone knows about Janela. Anthony Ogogo follows Cody Rhodes right into the cringe of overdoing the patriotism VS anti-patriotism political angle of their feud, but it’s not like he didn’t delivery it smoothly.

I like that we got an interview segment that turned into Shida finally confronting Britt and Rebel. They need to really get on that build, and I guess that’s why we’re getting Shida VS Rebel as a “Women’s Title Eliminator Match.” It makes sense in story that they could work together for Rebel to win that match, get a shot at Shida before Double or Nothing, and in theory, Rebel could win to then Finger Poke of Doom with Britt on PPV. None of that will happen but it is good story to tease it. Though, I suppose that was the point of the photoshoot scrap. Why we got that now and NOT the night it was mentioned is another left hand, right hand problem but whatever.

Conti had a good match against new girl, Kiah Dream. She showed she’s gotten stronger in her strike game, and she’s also going to be waiting on the other side of Double or Nothing. Penta being Robo’s debut opponent already says a lot about Robo, who is in great shape. Rosa stays strong in the penultimate match tonight, of course she’s ready for the other side of Double or Nothing. I don’t know if I would’ve had Brian Cage VS Mike Sydal as the main event, I might’ve put Archer VS Bronson there. Mike put up a great fight, but of course Cage wins, and I’m waiting for AEW to have Cage put the FTW Championship on the line again. Good to see Weapon X again, though, he hasn’t used that in some time.

My Score: 8.3/10

  • Ari Daivari VS Fuego Del Sol; Daivari wins.
  • Willow Nightingale VS Robyn Renegade w/ Charlette Renegade; Willow wins.
  • Serpentico w/ Luther VS Brock Anderson w/ Arn Anderson; Brock wins.
  • Abadon VS Mafiosa; Abadon wins.
  • Angelico VS Baliyan Akki; Angelico wins.

  • Josh Woods VS Cobra; Cobra wins.
  • Skye Blue VS Charlette Renegade w/ Robyn Renegade; Skye wins.
  • Bear Country VS Axel Rico & Victor Iniestra; Bear Country wins.
  • Kayla Rossi w/ Diamond Sheik VS Avery Breaux; Rossi wins.
  • Cezar Bononi w/ The Wingmen VS Marcus Kross; Bononi wins.
  • Rohit Raju VS Invictus Khash; Raju wins.
  • “Powerhouse” Will Hobbs VS Blake Christian; Hobbs wins.

QUICK NOTES

Great to see Abadon back in action, though I’m pretty sure she’s gotten even scarier since she’s been away… A lot of singles match-ups, a lot of easily called match-ups, but that’s par for the course on Dark. A bit surprised they didn’t just team up the Renegade Sisters against Willow & Skye, but maybe those matches are still connected. And while All Heart will lose to Powerhouse, you can beat Blake Christian will get to shine against the bigger Will Hobbs.

AEW Elevation Coverage

It’s a Superbad return!

Penelope Ford returns to action in AEW as Dark: Elevation serves the leftovers from Dynamite’s Quake by the Lake!

OFFICIAL RESULTS

  • Tony Nese & Josh Woods w/ Mark Sterling VS Travis Titan & Arik Cannon; Nese & Woods win.
  • 8 Man Tag: The Dark Order VS T.U.G Cooper, Drew System, Rylie Jackson & Adam Grace; The Dark Order wins.
  • Serena Deeb VS Sierra; Deeb wins.
  • Konosuke Takeshita VS Cezar Bononi; Konosuke wins.
  • Julia Hart VS Free-Range Kara; Julia wins.
  • Private Party VS JAH-C & JDX; Private Party wins.
  • Penelope Ford VS Heather Reckless; Ford wins.
  • The Acclaimed VS Justin Fowler & JT Energy; The Acclaimed win.
  • Six Woman Tag: Hikaru Shida & ThunderStorm VS Emi Sakura, Marina Shafir & Nyla Rose w/ Vickie Guerrero; Shida & ThunderStorm win.

QUICK NOTES

Great to see Penelope Ford is back in action. I wonder if Kip Sabian will make his in-ring return soon. Unless he wants to keep stalking Pac a little longer as the box man… Private Party is going to get a win as the warm-up for their AEW World Tag Team Championship match this Wednesday, and pretty much the entirety of The Dark Order is in action in that 8 Man Tag. Konosuke VS Bononi is going to be really good. Bononi is certainly the biggest opponent physically speaking for Konosuke to take on, so we’ll get to see how Konosuke handles that situation.
