WWE Raw & Smackdown Decreasing Commercials This Fall

According to a press release issued by NBC/Universal, WWE Raw and Smackdown will see their commercial time reduced by 10%, increasing the actual air-time of the product.

Linda Yaccarino, NBC/Universal’s Chairman for Advertising and Client Partnerships, provided this comment:

“Sometimes, a little bit less means a whole lot more. The industry knows that television is already the most effective advertising medium there is, but we need to make the experience better for viewers. We promised some big swings last fall to move our industry forward and this is the first one. Now, NBCUniversal is advancing the TV experience as consumer behavior has evolved: lower ad loads, more innovation and more targeting. We’re reimagining the advertising experience for consumers, marketers, and the entire industry.”

“Reimagining” might sound familiar, as it’s a hot buzzword in the television and entertainment industry today. You might remember that the XFL plans to rollout “football reimagined” in 2020.

What does this mean?

Basically, for us–the viewer–this means less ads (and according to them, better quality ads). Less ads means more air-time for the product. Approximately 10% more, which for Raw could mean 12-14 minutes over a three-hour broadcast and 8-9 minutes over a two-hour Smackdown broadcast.

How would you spend these minutes? The Revival? Rusev? MORE JINDER MAHAL?
