Impact News: Impact Wrestling Explains Why They Released Alberto El Patron

Published

Five years ago, Alberto El Patron formerly known as Alberto Del Rio left WWE and was finding a wave of momentum. Fast forward to 2018 and he has had nothing but bad news and drama linked to him. It’s possible that no United States based wrestling promotion will ever sign him again.

Patron was scheduled to wrestle in the co-branded wrestling event Impact vs Lucha on WrestleMania weekend but ended up no showing the event. Due to him not showing up Impact decided to terminate his contract. That also led to a change in the main event of Redemption.

Scott D’Amore, one third of the Impact Wrestling Excutive Committee recently spoke with Sports Illustrated about the release of El Patron. Scott stated that instead of focusing on all the bad Impact was going to focus on the wrestlers who actually showed up for the event.

Here is a quote from D’Amore’s interview:

“It was obviously an unfortunate situation,” said D’Amore. “When Alberto failed to show up to the event, we made our decision on a new main event for the show. It was important for us to give our fans, in a capacity crowd at the Sugar Mill in New Orleans, a great event, and we did not want them to focus on someone who wasn’t there. We wanted them to focus on the match we were giving.”

You can see the entire interview here.

From the business side of things this was the best decision that Impact could’ve made since for the past few weeks they have been riding a wave of momentum. Their viewership has been up and they have been getting a lot of praise recently so in the end they chose to focus on the good instead of the bad.

WWE/TKO Cuts and Pay Reductions Could Reshape Wrestler Contract Negotiations

Published

on

Fightful Select reports that a fresh round of cuts and pay reductions at TKO and WWE is expected to significantly change how talent and their agents approach contract talks. Sources in the talent and agent communities told FightfulSelect there is little confidence that major long-term deals will be honored for their full terms going forward.

The shifting landscape is likely to push wrestlers toward shorter deals, larger guaranteed sums, and more protective contract language as agents recalibrate negotiation strategies. That evolution could alter bargaining power across the industry and prompt broader changes in how promotions structure talent agreements.

WWE Reportedly Scrapped Short LA Knight Program With Gunther in Favor of a Cody Rhodes Push

Published

on

According to Bodyslam.net, WWE originally planned a short post‑WrestleMania program pitting LA Knight against Gunther, but those plans were reportedly altered so Knight would pursue Cody Rhodes and the Undisputed WWE Championship. There is currently no public word on WWE’s creative direction for Knight following the change.

Knight’s most recent televised appearance was WrestleMania Night One, teaming with The Usos against The Vision and IShowSpeed, after he addressed concerns over a bursa flare‑up that he said would not sideline him. Meanwhile, Gunther — fresh off his program with Seth Rollins — has set his sights on the WWE Championship, attacking Cody Rhodes on the May 1 SmackDown and putting him in a sleeper hold before releasing him and signaling his title intentions.
