Stipulation Added To Title Match At Backlash

Tonight’s edition of SmackDown Live opened with highlights of Braun Strowman tossing Commissioner Shane McMahon from the top rope through an announce table at WWE Greatest Royal Rumble, followed by General Manager Paige explaining that Shane would not be here tonight. She would go on to explain how Shinsuke Nakamura and WWE Champion AJ Styles got into a brawl at the event, leading to the match to end in a double count-out. ‘The Phenomenal One’ would become enraged after Shinsuke used another low blow during the match, which went undetected by the referee.

Paige would then announce that due to these circumstances, their rematch for the title at Backlash this Sunday will now be No Disqualification.

EA’s Take: No big surprise there, after all the low blows by Nakamura and AJ finally snapping, it was the next step in the feud. This is now their third straight match on pay-per-view, so you had to add a stipulation to just make it different. Does Shinsuke finally win the title here? I’d have to imagine so. He just turned heel, so what kind of credibility would that give the turn if he were to fall short for a third straight match?
