WWE Backlash Results: WWE Championship

After Carmella held off the challenge of Charlotte Flair, it was time for SmackDown Live’s top championship to take center stage as Shinsuke Nakamura set his sights on AJ Styles’ WWE Title. Nakamura attempted to get into Styles’ head to no avail, as ‘The Phenomenal One’ turned the viciousness up and hammered the challenger to the outside. A missed splash against the barricade gave Shinsuke control, peppering AJ with a violent barrage of strikes. Styles would find brief moments of offense, but ‘The Artist’ would counter to stop it every time. Shinsuke would go to the foreign objects first, planting the champion onto a chair with a reverse exploder, then set for a Kinshasa. Styles would fire the chair into Nakamura’s knees, but it would ricochet back into AJ’s face and bust him open.

The challenger would thwart off a Calf Crusher and go to his new trademark low blow, however Styles would finally return the favor with one of his own. Both men would struggle to their feet and exchange shots, connecting with in-sync low blows, to which neither man could answer a standing 10 count for a No Contest.
