WWE Rumors: The New Day’s Merchandise Sales Dipping
As the WWE’s Superstar Shake-Up approached last month, the debate among fans was sparked about which stars would go where, plus what tag teams we might see possibly split up. One of those talked about teams was The New Day, the longest-reigning WWE Tag Team Champions in company history and four-time titleholders. Many wondered if such a breakup were to take place, who would go on their own and if maybe any of the three might stay together, but of course it was all for naught as the trio remained intact on SmackDown Live.
Some may assume the reason for keeping New Day together could be due to the amount of merchandise they sell, but according to a new report, that may no longer be the case. Brad Shepard of BodySlam.net stated on the latest Backstage In WWE Podcast that they are no longer moving their merchandise like they had previously, but it was not specified just how much of a drop there has been.
EA’s Take: I’m really on the fence regarding The New Day staying together, prior to the Shake-Up I thought a split was the right call. Woods to 205 Live should be a no-brainer in my opinion, even if it’s for a short while. That show needs name value (as well as a time change) if anybody’s ever going to care about it and he’s the perfect combination of ability and personality. Kofi has previously mentioned possibly retiring should the group dissolve and honestly, he’s had a good career, so I’d be fine with that. Big E is the obvious breakout candidate with size, speed, power and loads of charisma. Now though, I’m not certain I want them to break apart, but that’s the fan in me not wanting to see one of WWE’s all-time great acts be disbanded. However, depending on how low their sales numbers have dropped, it could open the door for the company to pull the trigger on it.
