In some early morning breaking news today, WWE has announced that United Kingdom wrestling legend Johnny Saint has been appointed as the United Kingdom Division’s General Manager. The 76-year old Saint is a former professional wrestler who was trained by Billy Robinson is one of the “patron saints” (no pun intended) of British wrestling. Following his retirement, he would switch his focus to training the next generation of up-and-coming talent, even spending a six month period working at the WWE Performance Center last year.

Saint had the following to say about the future of the WWE United Kingdom Division:

“For the guys who are in the wrestling scene here in the U.K., the worldwide exposure is a wonderful thing. It’s something that we never really had before, so the new product is going to be tremendous for them.”

EA’s Take: We know there’s an announcement scheduled for the UK Championship Tournament on June 18th and 19th that I’ve speculated is likely either a weekly show on WWE Network, localized television for the division or both. I’m leaning more towards a local TV deal rather than the Network and to me this is just another indication of that. Johnny Saint may be a legend in the UK, but fans here in the USA aren’t going to be too familiar with him. Therefore, my personal conclusion is that should the UK Division be coming to the Network, WWE would have chosen a name fans over here would recognize. That’s just my two cents though and I’ve been wrong before!
