In case you missed it, yesterday saw a clash of pro wrestling companies, but not in the squared circle as WWE Superstars The New Day faced off against New Japan Pro Wrestling’s The Elite, comprised of Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks.

The trios went to war on the Capcom stage at this year’s E3 convention, duking it out in the game ‘Street Fighter V’. Unfortunately for Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, they came out on the losing end of things, however the meeting led to loads of speculation about the IWGP Heavyweight and Tag Team Champions possibly working with WWE in the future.

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there’s been discussion within WWE about opening up the lines of communication with not only New Japan Pro Wrestling talents, but also with those who are working the September 1st All In event in Chicago being produced by The Young Bucks and former WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes.

EA’s Take: This has seemingly been the talk of the wrestling world over the past 24 hours, at least on social media. WWE did a lot of promoting for this which many fans saw as an indication that Omega, The Young Bucks or maybe all three could be WWE-bound when their contracts expire, but it’s not the first time this talk has come up. Omega’s deal with NJPW expires in January, while The Young Bucks recently said they only had 6 months left. Do I buy that WWE’s interested? Of course, why wouldn’t they be? Do I buy that they’re open to working with NJPW or All In talents? Absolutely, I don’t think that’s really breaking news. That’s almost like saying, “If LeBron James were a free agent, would anyone want to sign him?”. As James Ellsworth would say, “DUH!”. Obviously there would be A LOT to discuss (money, scheduling, promotion, etc) because Omega and The Bucks have really had it made in Japan. It’s always those little details that put a snag in any kind of talks, so let’s see what happens. Could you imagine an NJPW invasion angle in WWE? The wrestling world would undoubtedly go ape.
