Extreme Rules Results: United States Championship, Superstar Returns!

Next up at Extreme Rules from Pittsburgh was a title match that previously was scheduled for SmackDown Live a couple of weeks back, but an unusual injury caused by a dog bite to Shinsuke Nakamura forced it to be cancelled. Instead, Jeff Hardy put his United States Championship on the line this evening in what some could consider a “dream match”.

Nakamura went to the dirty tactics prior to the bell, drilling the champion with a low blow behind the official’s back. The referee would check with Jeff to see if he still wanted the match to begin, to which ‘The Charismatic Enigma’ agreed. The bell would ring and Shinsuke would immediately strike with the Kinshasa, winning the United States Title in mere seconds.

As the new champion celebrated, Randy Orton would make his way out after being absent for months after knee surgery. ‘The Viper’ would enter the squared circle as the new champion looked on from the outside, but Orton would shockingly turn around and deliver a low blow to the recovering Hardy.
