Former WWE Superstar Suffers Heart Attack, Having Open Heart Surgery Today

With Ric Flair undergoing surgery yesterday (read about that here), the recent passing of Vader due to heart issues (find that here) and Ricky Steamboat recently having a hip replacement, some other news regarding a former WWE Superstar’s health has been revealed today.

Scott Casey, who wrestled for the WWF from 1987 to 1990, suffered a heart attack yesterday according to PWInsider and today, is scheduled for open heart surgery. The 71-year old Casey debuted in 1970 and spent the first nine years of his career working for Joe Blanchard, the father of WWE Hall Of Famer Tully Blanchard, in Southwest Championship Wrestling. He would then move on to World Class Championship Wrestling out of Dallas, feuding with the likes of The Midnight Express (alongside The Great Kabuki), ‘Hollywood’ John Tatum and Kabuki after the two split.

Next up for Casey was the World Wrestling Federation where he was primarily used as a babyface enhancement talent against the likes of Greg Valentine, The Honky Tonk Man and a host of others. Casey was used fairly regularly on television though and would gain victories on the opening matches of house shows against Superstars such as The Red Rooster (Terry Taylor) and ‘Iron’ Mike Sharpe. Scott Casey’s biggest opportunity came at Survivor Series 1988 when he took the injured B. Brian Blair’s spot on a team that consisted of Tito Santana, Ken Patera, ‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan and Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts. The quintet would wind up on the losing end on this night, falling to the team of Andre The Giant, ‘Ravishing’ Rick Rude, Harley Race, Mr. Perfect and Dino Bravo.
