Japanese Star Sentenced To 18 Months In Prison Following Drug Arrest

In case you missed it, two months ago former TNA Knockout and reigning Sendai Girls World Champion Ayako Hamada was arrested by Tokyo police for erratic behavior after she missed a shot in Osaka for Pro Wrestling Wave (check out that story here).

Ayako, who is the daughter of Japanese wrestling legend Gran Hamada, had sent word to Pro Wrestling Wave that she was being held at knife-point by four men in her home. When authorities arrived, they found Ayako to be incoherent and when she was given a drug test, it turned up positive for a stimulant called “kakuseizei”, which she also admitted to taking. She was then subsequently arrested on drug charges.

Ayako was also stripped of her Sendai Girls World Championship, however there have been no updates on the situation until today. Yahoo Japan is reporting that the 37-year old has since seen a judge and has now been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

EA’s Take: From all the information I’ve gathered, she’s pretty lucky to have only gotten 18 months for this. Japan is notorious for being one of the strictest countries in the world when it comes to its drug laws. After seeing all the trouble Matt Sydal went through for weed when he was arrested for reportedly 2.12 grams of liquid marijuana. His punishment? Three years probation. THREE YEARS! For 2.12 grams!
