MLW News: MLW Announces WarGames For September Return To Fort Lauderdale

On Thursday, September 6th, Major League Wrestling will be making its return to Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the War Memorial Auditorium. The show which was originally slated to be ‘Fury Road’ has now been changed, as announced by MLW CEO Court Bauer:

Changed my mind. Fury Road isn’t coming to Fort Lauderdale September 6th. Instead, @MLW will be doing #WARGAMES.

Of course, WarGames is the two-ring steel cage match that was Dusty Rhodes creation in the NWA, then later retained by WCW. The first took place on July 4th, 1987 on the opening stop of The Great American Bash tour where Dusty, Nikita Koloff, The Road Warriors and Paul Ellering defeated an incarnation of The Four Horsemen consisting of Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Lex Luger and JJ Dillon.

The last time the match was seen was last November at NXT TakeOver: WarGames in Houston, Texas. This was the first time WWE had used the match since acquiring WCW in 2001. In this version of the match, it consisted of three teams of three, as opposed to the original five-on-five rules. On that night, The Undisputed Era emerged victorious over SAnitY, as well as The Authors Of Pain and Roderick Strong.
