NJPW News: Latest On Hiromu Takahashi After Injury At G1 Special

It has been a couple of weeks now since we’ve heard any updates on New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Hiromu Takahashi. Of course, the reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion was severely injured back at the G1 Special in San Francisco back on July 7th while defending his title against Dragon Lee.

While trying Dragon Lee tried to execute a cradle suplex, Takahashi’s neck slipped out from Dragon Lee’s grasp, spiking Hiromu on the top of his head (find that here) in a scene that would make any fan cringe. NJPW would later announce that Takahashi had suffered a neck injury, however to what extent was not mentioned (read that here) with many others strongly believing that it was broken.

Today, Dave Meltzer provided an update on Hiromu’s condition on Wrestling Observer Radio, reporting that he’s currently still in the hospital:

“He’s still in the hosptial. That’s all I know and I don’t consider that…I mean he’s in good spirits but it’s eighteen days and he’s still in the hospital. That’s not a good sign to me at all.”

Currently, there are still no specifics on the nature of the injury and it’s yet to be determined when or even if he will be able to return to the ring, a possible recovery time or the status of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title.
