WWE News: Paige Announces Series Of Matches To Determine #1 Contenders
Last Sunday, SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Bludgeon Brothers successfully defended their titles against the reunited Team Hell No at Extreme Rules. It wasn’t all “on the up” however, as Harper and Rowan ambushed their challengers backstage earlier in the evening, which left Kane wounded and Daniel Bryan left to fend for himself against the two monsters for the majority of the match.
Of course, we all know the reason for the angle now was due to Kane having a legitimate injury to his left foot (for more on that go here), meaning Bryan will go back into singles competition with speculation being he will face longtime rival The Miz at SummerSlam on August 19th. So where does this leave the champions?
SmackDown Live General Manager Paige took to Twitter today with the following video, announcing a series of matches to determine the next challengers at SummerSlam:
Finished dog mom responsibilities and got an idea for the tag team division of #SDLive. That’s right, I’m always working for you! pic.twitter.com/4OejvimYkJ

EA’s Take: Pretty short and to the point by the GM here, not giving us any indication as to who will be involved. Just looking at SmackDown Live’s Tag Team Division, you would have to think The Usos and The Bar are givens. Especially since The Bar has been up to a whole lot of nothing for a few weeks now. As far as I know, Epico Colon is still on the mend which means The Colons are out and after already coming up short in multiple chances last month, I’d say Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson are probably out as well. That leaves Rusev Day, The New Day and SAnitY and since Rusev Day seems to have their own little possible breakup angle going, I’d think the way to go here would be New Day and SAnitY to meet in the “finals” to see who goes to SummerSlam. On the other hand, WWE could throw a total curveball.

WWE Using AI for Creative Analytics, But Critics Warn of Limits
TKO president Mark Shapiro confirmed the company is employing artificial intelligence as part of WWE’s creative and analytics process, using it to gauge which superstars resonate, where they connect with fans, and to inform content, touring and revenue decisions. Shapiro framed AI as a tool to help map editorial and creative strategies, though he did not specify the scope or specific systems being used.
Industry critics caution that commercially available large language models have significant limitations — they’re trained on existing internet data, prone to hallucinations, and often fail to produce genuinely new creative ideas. Studies also cast doubt on large productivity gains from AI and raise concerns about over-reliance on automated analysis driving billion-dollar booking decisions, with commentators warning that unchecked use could skew creative outcomes and require rigorous human verification.

WWE NXT Promo Draws Backlash Over Alleged AI Use
TKO president Mark Shapiro recently confirmed that Nick Khan and Triple H have incorporated AI into WWE’s creative process, and wrestling fans are now spotting the technology in vignettes and promo packages. An earlier El Grande Americano clip raised eyebrows last year, but this week’s NXT vignette allegedly featuring Sol Ruca and Zaria has prompted even stronger accusations that AI is being used in broadcast production.
Viewers highlighted uncanny-valley close-ups and likeness issues—most notably that Sol Ruca’s on-screen appearance didn’t match her real-life features—as signs the segment may have been AI-generated. Social media backlash suggests many fans feel WWE is rushing AI into television content before the tech can convincingly replicate talent.
