The rumor mill has been going crazy now that WWE’s new television deal to air SmackDown Live on FOX in 2019 has been made official after an announcement last week (which you can read here). When the details on how the deal was reached first leaked out, it was said that FOX executives also added a studio show for WWE on FS1 (for more on that go here), rumors being that it could be something like ‘Talking Smack’ or perhaps even a full reprisal of the show.

Since then, there have been conflicting reports online that the studio show could actually end up being NXT, however Triple H previously addressed those rumors and the potential issue it could present (check that out here). On top of this, other outlets have reported that Saturday Night’s Main Event, which hasn’t aired since 2008 when it was on NBC, previously aired on FOX for two episodes in 1992.

According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, the talk of Saturday Night’s Main Event being brought back is not true, adding that sources from both WWE and FOX are saying there won’t be any more wrestling programming added. As for NXT possibly going to FS1, Meltzer simply stated that there is “No chance”. However, he would then say it is still possible, but he was told it wouldn’t be right now.

EA’s Take: I actually agree with you, Dave. Just like I agreed with Triple H’s comments on NXT moving to cable. It’s too big of a draw for WWE Network subscribers and I can’t see WWE putting that at risk right now. I also don’t think you want NXT to be a “throw in” as part of another deal because I’ve heard nothing about FOX paying more to get it in any of these so-called “reports”. The original report that has been the most accurate is what I’m sticking with until I see anything from more credible sources. It’s most likely going to be something like ‘Talking Smack’. Unless FOX starts throwing some more quality money around which doesn’t seem to be the case after already committing to over a billion dollars.
