WWE Rumors: What Match Will Close Out Extreme Rules?
WWE Extreme Rules is now just two days away as the Superstars of RAW and SmackDown Live head to the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Weeks ago when it was believed there would be a 6-Man match to determine the number one contender for Brock Lesnar’s Universal Championship, most fans likely would have said that match would be the one to close out the show. Since that match is no longer taking place, there’s been some chatter among the WWE Universe about what could now be the main event.
According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, Bobby Lashley vs. Roman Reigns (who were the only announced participants in the now-cancelled 6-Man) is scheduled to be last as of Monday. Additionally, there was a push for the 30-Minute Iron Man match for the Intercontinental Championship between Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins to go last and some may still be pushing for it, but is unlikely to happen. It’s also being said that the WWE Championship match, which will see AJ Styles defend against Rusev, has gotten “no support” for that spot.
EA’s Take: Like Drake, I’ll start from the “bottom”. No surprise to me about Styles and Rusev not being considered to close the show, if this is true. I’ve said it so many times now, but Rusev ain’t over. Nobody’s taking him as a serious challenger or threat to take AJ’s title. As much as I think the WWE Championship should main event because it’s the WWE freakin’ Championship, the feud’s been a bit of a dud. If Styles vs. Nakamura never main evented a PPV, Styles vs. Rusev certainly ain’t going to. Seth vs. Dolph will no doubt be a great match, but no matter how you feel about Reigns, that’s the hottest feud right now and should be what finishes the night.
