WWE Rumors: WWE Reporting Kane Suffered Broken Ankle At Extreme Rules
At tonight’s Extreme Rules, we saw the reunited tandem of Kane and Daniel Bryan, Team Hell No, get their shot at The Bludgeon Brothers’ SmackDown Tag Team Championships after weeks of buildup. Of course, The Bludgeon Brothers got themselves involved last month in a Gauntlet Match to determine the number one contender to the WWE Championship, costing Bryan his opportunity and leaving him easy pickings for The Miz.
The champions essential “bullying” of The Leader of the Yes Movement would then see the surprise return of his old tag team partner Kane to even the odds and the pair would earn their chance for the SmackDown Tag Titles by defeating The Usos in their first match back together.
It didn’t play out how Team Hell No expected tonight however, as The Bludgeon Brothers attacked them early on in the night and severely damaged Kane’s leg. This would force Bryan to compete alone against the champions, putting up a solid fight before the numbers became too much for him. ‘The Devil’s Favorite Demon’ would finally make his way to the ring sporting a walking boot, but in the end the damage had already been done and The Bludgeon Brothers retained.
WWE has since provided an update on Kane, claiming that he has suffered a broken angle as a result of tonight’s attack:
At WWE Extreme Rules, Kane suffered an injury at the hands of The Bludgeon Brothers. Despite returning to action to help his Team Hell No tag team partner Daniel Bryan, X-rays taken on The Devil’s Favorite Demon later revealed that he has suffered a broken ankle.

PWInsider is now reporting that the backstage angle was done because Kane is legitimately injured and was seen in the walking boot earlier in the day.
EA’s Take: Of course, this is all storyline it feels like. It has to be right? We all knew the Team Hell No reunion was going to be short-lived due to Kane’s political career and nothing against ‘The Big Red Monster’, but Bryan’s got better things to do now that he’s reportedly signed a new two-year contract (read about that here). So this was just a way to kill two birds with one stone, giving The Bludgeon Brothers the win and writing Kane off of television in one swoop. This injury seems to have popped up rather quickly and with no previous word of it, so I feel like I have to at least question it.
