2. His First WWE Championship

Styles used the momentum from beating Cena to pull off a feat few thought he would especially not this early in his WWE run: win the WWE championship. He took it from Dean Ambrose who wasn’t really working as champion at Backlash 2016 On paper Styles should’ve never been near the title as he is three things that Vince hates. He’s small, made his name elsewhere and he’s southern.

Styles winning the title only 9 months after he debuted represented a real change in who WWE has in their main events.

1. WrestleMania 33

It doesn’t matter where you are on the card or how much time you’re given it’s what you do with that time. Everyone thought AJ should have had better than facing Shane McMahon at WrestleMania. Most people thought it would be decent, but no one thought it would be the show stealer that it was.

The fact that AJ was chosen to even be in that match is a sign of how much faith the company had in him. He wouldn’t be put in that position if they didn’t think AJ could work well with Shane to get the best match possible.

It also further proved why AJ is one of the best in the world. As if we needed any more proof.
