Is Bobby Lashley A Dud In WWE Return?

In WWE, you see many wrestlers return after years of being away from the company. Sometimes when these stars return, they come back bigger and better than they were with their first run. However, a majority of the time the returning wrestlers end up with lackluster storylines that makes their return seem like a total dud.

One star who’s in danger of having his WWE return venture into dullsville is Bobby Lashley.

For new wrestling fans who aren’t familiar with Lashley’s work, he’s a former United States champion and ECW champion. His biggest moment came when he represented Donald Trump during the Battle of the Billionaires match at Wrestlemania 23. After successfully beating Umaga, Lashley joined Trump and special guest referee Stone Cold Steve Austin in shaving Vince McMahon’s head.

Not too long after that buzzed about Wrestlemania moment, Lashley would depart WWE. Like many other WWE stars, he would join TNA Wrestling. His tenure with TNA would be short-lived as he would then focus his attention on building his MMA career.

On April 9, 2018, Bobby Lashley would make his return to WWE after a ten-year departure. Longtime fans were happy to see Lashley back in WWE. Early reports suggested that WWE had big plans for Lashley upon his return.

So did Bobby Lashley’s return live up to expectations?

Let’s take a look at some of the recent storylines he’s been involved in.

His first feud upon arriving on the roster was against the heelish Sami Zayn. From the beginning no one was interested in this feud and it lead to one of the worst segments in WWE history (much worse than Bayley This Is Your Life). Lashley would beat Zayn at Money in the Bank, and their feud quickly ended after Zayn suffered a shoulder injury.

Lashley’s next feud had promise when he began to battle “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns. The two had a heated battle over the number one contender spot for The Universal Championship. Prior to the contender match, rumors swirled that WWE was considering having Lashley face Brock Lesnar for the title at SummerSlam. Many believed that either Lashley would win or the championship match would be changed to a triple threat featuring Reigns. But instead WWE decided to go once again with Reigns versus Lesnar, and Lashley was once again pushed out of the main event scene.

So what’s next for Bobby Lashley after his battle with Reigns?

Based on the past two episodes of RAW, it’s a good bet that Lashley’s next feud is going to be with Elias. Again another feud the crowd may not want to see.

It’s only been four months since Lashley came back to WWE and aside from his brief feud with Roman Reigns, nothing about his return has been memorable. It could be that the audience is having a hard time connecting with him or creative doesn’t know what to do with him. Either way Bobby Lashley needs a huge boost if he wants to make his WWE return a success.
