Is Charlotte Flair The Most Overpushed Star In The WWE Women’s Division?

There’s no denying that Charlotte Flair is one of the top stars in the women’s division. As the daughter of wrestling legend Ric Flair, it’s understandable why WWE wants to book her as their next big star. Considered a pioneer of WWE’s Women’s Revolution, Charlotte Flair has gained a lot of attention from the media. Away from the ring, she attends red carpet events, participates in photoshoots, and makes the round doing television interviews.

Inside the ring, Charlotte Flair continues to break records. At SummerSlam, she made history when she won her seventh championship, tying the record held by Trish Stratus. While it was a momentous occasion, fans weren’t pleased with her win because it came at the expense of her friend and WWE darling Becky Lynch.

Fans were rooting for Becky because she’s seen as underappreciated and has worked hard to get back to the top of the women’s division. Yet, Charlotte returns after six weeks out of action and is immediately given a championship opportunity, which was unfair. So when Becky snapped on Charlotte after their match, the crowds cheered on Lynch while showing zero sympathy for Miss Flair.

Reading comments on social media following the match, fans voiced their displeasure for Charlotte by saying she was overpushed and was in danger of becoming the female Roman Reigns.

As I read these comments, I began thinking about the booking of Charlotte Flair on the main roster and after careful consideration, I found myself agreeing with the fans.

Charlotte is a great wrestler, but like Roman Reigns the problem is how WWE books her. She’s constantly in the championship picture and there have been times where she’s gone over when she shouldn’t have.

Hell in a Cell 2016

Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks made history when they became the first women to compete in a Hell in a Cell match. Yet, what was supposed to be a historic moment was met with mixed reactions. Heading into the match Sasha was champion and since the PPV was in her hometown of Boston, many believed she should’ve won. However, at the end of the night Charlotte was named the winner and captured her third championship.

At this year’s WrestleMania, Royal Rumble winner Asuka decided to face Charlotte for the Smackdown Women’s Championship. Asuka was the odds-on favorite to win, after all there’s no way WWE would let anyone break The Empress of Tomorrow’s undefeated streak.

Well, WWE decided it was time to end Asuka’s streak by having Charlotte pin her, a move that once again didn’t set well with fans.

These incidents along with the SummerSlam match has turned fans against Charlotte. With her about to feud with Becky Lynch, WWE is going to want to make Charlotte the victim in the storyline. But judging by the crowd’s reaction, they’re not going to be rooting for Charlotte.

There’s no telling what WWE’s plans are for Charlotte moving forward, but they better tread carefully with how they book her. With the amount of heat that’s on her, it wouldn’t be surprising if Charlotte got booed more than Roman Reigns.
