Mathew’s Stardom 5 Star Grand Prix Blue Stars Results & Review: Day 2
Welcome back to the Five Star Grand Prix and the first day was a success and left me wanting to be more excited for it unlike Dragon Gate’s King of Gate tournament. Yes, I am still mad at them for it.
Stardom-World did a great job uploading the entire show right away and gives me time to write about it now before their next one starts this Sunday. We got another solid card and it’s time to see how the standings till look once it’s over.
Let us head on down and…dive right in.
Grand Prix Blue Stars Match
Natsu Sumire vs. Nicole Savoy
Review: If you watched day 1, then you know that both of these girls have lost their matches with Sumire losing her match against Jamie Hayter while Nicole was defeated by Momo Watanabe. So both of these women would need a win here to increase their chances of winning the whole thing, but that means one of them would have to eat the losing streak as well. Which one will have two losses in a row?
Sumire in her pre-match interview warned Nicole to stop thinking that all Japanese people are nice here and will show her that the time of peace is over. Nicole would put Sumire in a leg lock to hurt her knee a little bit and then the match starts to really slow down with Sumire being on the outside selling her knee and making it look like she’s legit injured. Nicole would get Sumire back in the ring and it would start to feel a bit one-sided and dragged a little with how Sumire was selling the leg until you find out she was playing possum during the whole thing to outsmart Nicole and starts to get the advantage on her. Once Sumire has her little fun, Nicole would get the momentum back with hitting a TKO but Sumire kicks out and now tries to do a Fallaway Slam with a bridge but Sumire was still kicking out of everything. Sumire kept on weakly kicking out of Nicole’s impactful moves and she decides to switch it up a notch by applying the Figure-Four and Sumire would eventually tap out to put herself in a losing streak. So does that mean Sumire has to die twice now?

Grand Prix Blue Stars Match
Momo Watanabe vs. Jamie Hayter
Review: Now we have a match with the people that have actually defeated both of our competitors in the previous matches. I think that’s the pattern for day two here with the winners of their matches fighting each other while the losers do the same just by looking at the card for today’s show. We now get another champion versus champion match with our Wonder of Stardom Champion, Momo Watanabe taking on RPW Women’s Champion, Jamie Hayter. Momo already defeated the SHIMMER Champion and can she now defeat another champion and remain undefeated?
In this match, we get to see a better outing from Jamie to show us what she can do in the ring and I like Sumire, but she’s not a good opponent to help showcase your stuff better with. Jamie was using her power with a combination of strikes like her running knees and just kicking her down in an impressive bout but there was one problem Jamie seemed to have with facing Momo and that was it looked like she was underestimating her. Momo had the early advantage over Jamie and was mostly outmaneuvering her throughout the match and again this is a better progression of Momo as a wrestler and I think we’ll see a lot more of it here in this tournament with each match-up as we go along. Momo hits the Somato for a two count and she starts to go for the Package Driver only for Jamie to roll her up and starts to knee her in the face again for good measure, but not done there as she starts beating her down with some chops and tops it off with a quick Falcon Arrow for a two count. Jamie starts to head up to the ropes only for Momo to kick her down and put her back into the Package Driver and she hits it this time for the win and still undefeated.

Grand Prix Blue Stars Match
Kelly Klein vs. Hazuki
Review: Our other set of winners from the first day are set to face off here with Kelly Klein who defeated Mayu Iwatani taking on Hazuki who defeated Saki Kashima. Kelly talked about facing her in a tag team and also teaming up with her as she looks forward to fighting her in the ring and remain undefeated. Hazuki just talked about how it’ll be hard to defeat her and she might have to rely on the fifteen-minute draw to play it safe, but we’ll see what happens. Who joins Momo in the undefeated club?
Soon as the match starts, we already had a little botch with Hazuki attempting to roll her up when they ran towards each other and it just didn’t work out so well, but they tried their best to cover it up and kept on going like nothing happened. Much like the previous match we just saw, Kelly was relying on her power like how Jamie was at her match with Momo, but the difference was that Kelly had a lot more offense in her match against Hazuki. Hazuki as mostly relying on her smarts and agility to try and knock the giant down but Hazuki kept getting cornered by her strikes as Hazuki rolled out to the apron. Hazuki was on the apron for a good while to sell an injury but Kelly didn’t wanna wait for a countout victory and goes to try and drag her in only for Hazuki to hit a DDT onto the ring apron and you can feel her head landing on it and makes you wanna cringe at the sight. The match itself was very solid with great action from both of these talented women despite the little hiccup they had in the beginning. Hazuki would take advantage over Kelly after hitting that DDT on the apron and start beating her down until Kelly got back up and overpowers Hazuki once again. Kelly hits a Northern Lights Suplex for a two count and goes to lift her up one more time only for Hazuki to fight out of it and as she rushes towards Kelly, she meets a Pop-up Powerbomb from Kelly for another two count. It looked like Hazuki didn’t need to wait for a time limit draw as she did what she did last time and hits the La Magistral for the win and remains undefeated.

Grand Prix Blue Stars Match
Mayu Iwatani vs. Saki Kashima
Review: Our main event tonight is between both fellow STARS members and both current Goddesses of Stardom Champions, Mayu Iwatani, and Saki Kashima. Both of them lost to their previous match opponents much like the first half of the block and both of these women would need a big win here but unfortunately, one of them is gonna have to lose here and my top pick has a good chance of having a two loss streak. Saki just talked about how they team up together and knows her every move, but she does need to win here tonight according to Saki, so that’s what she aims to do. Mayu pretty much says the same thing and also how she needs to be careful with Saki since she could creep up on you if given the chance. The last time they fought was at the Cinderella Tournament and Mayu was the victor there, so maybe she could do it again. Who gets a win and who will have two losses?
Saki first went for a handshake and got her hand slapped but Mayu looked like she was going to show a change of heart and now go for a handshake and as Saki does, Mayu uses it to go for her Dragon Suplex Hold but Saki turns it around to go for a Killswitch but also gets reversed. The two would then proceed to have a Lucha style opening as their sequences with both of them hitting an arm drag and going for strikes and roll-ups while dodging and reversing out of everything and it was starting to look amazing until the very last Dropkick happened and was botched pretty badly for a little bit of an anti-climatic end to a great sequence, so gonna cost some points there for that. In my opinion, both Mayu and Saki are the best sellers in Stardom right now from how they take the moves and make them look believable while telling a story in the ring and the both of them just do it so well and some of the others should look up to them for stuff like that.
Mayu is showing her desperation side again just by how stiff she is with Saki with her kicks and looking like she was really hurting her for a moment there, which shows again how good they are at selling. Mayu wasn’t lying with Saki creeping up on you whenever she can since that is what she does with her submission holds anytime she has an opening kinda like how Konami is, just not as aggressive as her. It looked like Saki went to go for another hold but Mayu just kicks her directly at her spine to knock her down and used this as an opening to just beat her down. I loved this match with their chemistry, how they play off against one another and just how they do their moves and take them. Mayu was pulling out all the stops with her kicks to her head, a German Suplex and even hitting a Frog Splash on her and Saki was still determined to keep on fighting and kick out of it all. During the end of the match, Mayu would try to put her away with the Dragon Suplex Hold but Saki does an arm drag instead and turns it into a roll up for a two count and Mayu slaps Saki to go for it again but Saki rolls her up for another two count and Mayu goes for a Clothesline only for Saki to duck and what looked like to be a Bulldog and turns it into another roll up only for Saki to get the surprise win! After the match, Saki would one more time attempt a handshake to her partner and Mayu accepts it but gets pulled in for a hug and is surprised by how quick she pulled her in and was a bit too tired and just wanted the handshake. Things aren’t looking good for Mayu and would need to win her next one or has a chance of being eliminated.

Overall: I thought the first day was better with match quality, but this was still a solid show for sure with the main event delivering here. Our next show is two-parts due to them having a day and night show, so we’re gonna see how the both of us will handle this one. Fun night all around, so I can still call it a success and much better than King of Gate still.
